I love going to Tibbs in both the summer and early fall. Even on a hot day, it's nice and cool by the time the movie starts. I love that I'm able to bring my own food in addition to the huge selection of concessions they have. I always bring a couple snacks and get something sweet at the concession. This is such a fun and inexpensive place to spend the evening with friends

My husband and I stopped in the first weekend of August to watch Trap / Watchers. Despite us living on Indy's west side for the last 7 years, I had never been to Tibbs before and he hadn't been since he was a kid. He said the concessions building was exactly the same as he remembered it. It was so fun and like a blast from the past with the way it was set up and decorated. We got a large popcorn, funnel fries, a cheeseburger, a tenderloin, and 2 root beer floats. The popcorn was great, the root beer floats were amazing, and the cheeseburger brought back fond memories of school lunches. Neither of us really liked the funnel fries and my husband wished he had ordered a cheeseburger like I did instead of the tenderloin. Everything was super reasonably priced and I'm glad we supported the concessions vs bringing a pizza. Both M. Night Shyamalan movies were really fun and it was a great date night spot. The only downside is that it was incredibly hot (early August, so to be expected) and my husband had to keep the driver's side windows up almost all of Trap because the car next to us had 2-3 kids that talked very loudly the entire movie. This really limited air flow for the first movie and it was uncomfortably hot in the car. The family next to us did not stay for Watchers, so we rolled all the windows down once they left and the temp cooled down drastically and it was lot more enjoyable. We can't wait to come back, but we are waiting for it to get a little bit cooler.

Some food from the concessions! Chicken tenders and seasoned fries.

Classic drive-in theater! My husband's colleague recommended it for the experience and for the food. We purchased tickets online in advance, but you can also purchase them on site. Friendly staff greets you and provides a garbage bag (no excuses to make a mess!) and an informational sheet on their policies, which station to tune into, etc. There are 4 screens, each play 2 or 3 movies per night. It's a pet-friendly venue. You can bring your own food and drinks, BUT consider supporting the concession instead. Traditional food (hot dog, burgers, pizza, popcorn and the like) but delicious and affordable. We will absolutely return. So glad to know this drive-in is here!

Tibbs Drive-In is an awesome outdoor movie experience with a nostalgic touch. I think there is something really special about watching movies under the night sky. You can watch from your car or sitting outside in chairs. Just be prepared for a long line to get in if you don't arrive early.

    Getting settled with dinner

Super fun and retro. This was my first drive-in, here's some tips from one newbie to another: -If you're bringing kids to a kid movie, plan for them to be IN the car. The other screens are clearly visible from your spot and show stuff for grownups. -Plan for mosquitos. Nana knew from her childhood to bring little citronella candles in holders for inside and around the car, plus bug spray. -Bring some painters tape or something for the tiny runner lights inside the car that you can't turn off. Or just check out your car before you go. -The concessions stand is awesome. Funnel cake fries, soft serve, fresh sliced apples with hot caramel sauce, tons of meal options including grilled chicken sandwiches,- and it's all really reasonable. Three of us had dinner and dessert for like $32.

We were in line for a good 30m. I would recommend all hands on deck. Two attendants should be working the booth for faster service entering the theater. Once we got in we couldn't find a place to park. I made a spot. We missed at least half of the movie because of the long line. Yes, I left in enough time to at least spare 15m. The movie was good. Next time, I'll try to get there earlier.

We had such a blast finally checking this spot off our bucket list. When Heartland Film Fest came to Tibbs, we couldn't not check it out. We bought our tickets online, arrived five minutes before we started, and had our tickets scanned on our phones at the entrance. The man working the ticket stand was so friendly and pointed us to the correct screen. He also gave us a slip of paper with the radio/sound info on it. We easily found a parking spot at our screen (if you have a ticket beforehand, then there will be a spot for you) and ran into the snack bar. It reminded me of being a kid and getting to order at the school cafeteria for the first time. They had every type of junk food: pizza, fried chicken sandwiches, tenderloin sandwiches, fries, nachos, popcorn, pretzels, soft drinks, candy, cookies, or chips. None of the food was very good, but it was a good time to go all in. We caught the "A Call to Spy" movie about women being recruited as spies in WW2 (true story). It was super interesting and the sound was good when we tuned into the radio station. The only problem is that we were kind of nervous that our battery would die the whole time, so had our car running for most of it. The car next to us had their battery die mid-way through the movie, so the Tibbs staff came over with their car jumping equipment. I'd feel a bit more comfortable returning if there were little speakers next to each car that let you just roll down your windows and turn off your car. Nonetheless, we had a fun time and were pleasantly surprised by the wonderful staff, the large amount of cars at each screen and the ease of getting tickets.

FREAKING LOVE THIS PLACE! Old school ambiance tucked away just outside of Downtown. This place has so much character its hard to describe, its a combo on nostalgia with "high school". Great place to watch a movie with your friends or alone. You can talk / chill / eat while you watch new movies, after catching a nice sunset! Pro-tip -- come early to get a spot near the center, back in if you have a hatchback / SUV & bring some camping chairs! Use the bathroom before you come! Don't park too close to the front, the playground might be annoying!

There is a drive-in theater in my home town so I was really itching to try this place out. We decided to go see the premier of Thor Love and Thunder. You can order tickets ahead of time that will guarantee you entrance just not a specific spot. We flashed our virtual tickets and drove right on in. The attendant gave us a slip of paper with the info regarding radio stations for each screen (very helpful). The gates opened at 8pm and we arrived just after 8:30 on a Thursday with hardly anyone in sight. The movie did start at 9:30. We took our truck and made a little hangout in the truck bed. You are permitted to bring food and drink but they make most of their money at the concession stand (per their site). We had to get some and of course they had every type of junk food you could think of - even funnel fries. My biggest takeaway would be that you NEED a portable or battery radio. We did not bring one and did not want to leave the car on all evening. Cars around us were dying. We could somewhat hear the sound from the speakers around us but not enough to enjoy the movie. We downloaded every radio app possible but no luck.

We went to the Tibbs Drive-in Theatre for a fun quarantine date night. It was a perfect date night idea!! We made our own popcorn ahead of time, brought some water bottles and a blanket, and cuddled up in the car while we watched 2 new movies that had been released the day before! They did have a concessions stand, but we did not use it. The signs were easy to follow to figure out which of the 4 screens were showing your movies, and the parking situation seemed easy enough. We were parked along the far left of the screen and could still see just fine. Even in the summer months when it doesn't get dark until late, we could see the projections just fine even when the sky wasn't completely dark. Even though they say just using the radio on your car won't kill it, my car did die mid-movie (I think I had a bad battery that has since been replaced) but we walked over the concession stand and there was a line of people waiting to get their cars jumped too- I felt much less silly. In about 5 minutes someone came over and jumped our car with a handheld car jumper and we were back watching the movie!! It was very convenient, fast, and they were very nice about it. The movie ended late but getting out with everyone at the same time was much less of a hassle than I thought it would be. Overall it was a great experience. We follow them on Facebook to see what movies are playing each week, and when we see ones we like- we will be back!

Flat parking. No humps to tip up car.

It's been a minute since I last visited a drive-in theater. What I do remember was an enormous screen, speakers that hooked on your window and humps in the parking spots that would tip your car up to enable a better view of the screen. It seems like the screen at Tibbs was about 3/4 size. The sound came through the car speakers via a radio signal. That is definitely a technological improvement, especially if your car has a kick-a$$ sound system. Also, there were no humps. My husband had to duck his head or slump in his seat in order to see the top of the screen. If the screen had been full size and the humps had not been graded out, it would have been a much better experience. Next time, we'll wait to see our next movie in the comfort of our own home on a far superior screen.

A unique Yelp! event and one that I will enjoy as our family has been fans of Drive-In theaters since the 80s. Good to see some still surviving and preserve this piece of Americana. We look forward to the drive-in experience every summer and this one made for a great date night. Weather was wonderful a light breeze and mid-70s and it didn't rain until the last few scenes of Black Panther. Thanks to Amazon for sponsoring this event and providing us some snack boxes - totally unexpected. Normally they have 4 screens operating but this was a special Wednesday evening event so only one screen was working. They also had a very clean concession building with clean restrooms.

We loaded up my car with 3 adults and 2 children and got in to this quaint little drive-in for the $25 carload special. What a deal! We had packed up our favorite snacks and drinks, since most of us have food allergies and special dietary needs. So I can't speak of the concession stand. But it sounded like their fried donuts are a big hit. The people on both sides of us went back a few times for more, and their children cheered as their sweet treats were delivered. After the first movie, they announced that if anyone wanted more donuts, now was the time to get them, as they were close to running out for the evening. The rest of the drive-in seemed very well kept. I'm used to the drive-in downtown, with nothing but gravel. This drive-in only has one screen, but is much nicer. The lush grass is perfect for spreading out a blanket and sprawling out while you snack and take in a movie. My girls absolutely loved the playground that's available, and I loved that it kept them occupied while we waited for the movie to start. We didn't realize they do not want anyone on the playground once the movie starts, so we allowed them to go swing a few times with the promise to be quiet. A few other children did so a few times, and I thought it was perfect for wiggly young children who struggle with sitting still for a 2 hour movie. They never played long before running back to the car. This was also a screening of a kids' movie, so I thought it was perfectly acceptable. However, I can see the danger that it may present, being so dark. At one point, several children ended up playing there and were getting a little rowdy. An employee came hurrying thru, apologizing to everyone in their path about the children "disturbing the movie" (oopsie. My bad.) and kindly told the children that the playground was closed. They were very polite about it, and now we know better for next time. We will definitely be back. This was a really enjoyable and pocketbook friendly family experience.
