This is the review every pet lover dreads....so tearfully here it is. Our senior Good Boi (2…read moremonths off 16yrs old) had an infection which was turning into sepsis and there was nothing we could do, apart from make sure he passed peacefully and not in the painful throws of sepsis. He wouldn't survive surgery as he was already taking meds for heart and kidney failure, and had doggy dementia and was blind. It is a heart wrenching decision but our vet Dr McCurdy (Makawao Vet Clinic) always said "a dog's last day doesn't have to be the worst day" and with that in mind I called Kehau and arranged a day for Dr Lacey Palomino to come over and help us say goodbye to our good boi at home. Kehau organised everything with me by text because....well....I couldn't speak I was weeping so much. Kehau was such a help and full of empathy, she organised everything and covered cremation and ashes so we can spread our boi's ashes on his favourite walks. Kehau and Lacey arrived on time, explained the process (which we knew as we have had dogs all our lives and unfortunately they don't live as long as we want), administered a sedative and gave us 10 mins to give our boi lots of love on our knees on the sofa, then when he was sedated they administered the final drugs in the vein via an IV, which our good boi knew nothing about. Of course we howled through the process...this was my Soul Dog, my dog of a lifetime and it hurt. However Lacey and Kehau somehow made it slightly bearable, were full of empathy and understanding and made sure we knew exactly what was happening. Lacey checked our Boi had passed and told us he was gone so we knew it was over. They gave us time alone to introduce our other dog to our Soul Boi when he had passed, so he understood he had passed. Then we carried our Boi out to Kehau's car in a blanket for his last ride. Lacey sent us a bill via Square on our phone so we didn't have to go through any distraction during the process which we appreciated. It was easy to pay online, a godsend at such a time. It is hard to say goodbye to your faithful friend, Lacey and Kehau will help you send them on their way peacefully, after enjoying their last good day with steak, ice cream and a walk at the beach and lots of cuddles and love.

Dr. Palomino was amazing with our little Chihuahua Pia! Walked in this morning as my dog needed veterinary care and West Maui Vet was closed. Vet was on…read morethe phone on an obviously personal call in an empty surgery and was annoyed when I walked in and interrupted. I explained I needed vet care and he said he was all booked up, then went back to his call. I was a bit taken aback by this attitude. No empathy or interest. Not a vet I would trust with my pet.

Waaay more affordable than West Maui Vet, also way more personal. Dr. Murakami is a one-man show, so you have to call and leave a voice message, but he always calls back. You also have to help hold your animal down in the exam room and be his assistant, but I have no problem doing this is if means keeping costs down. I actually kind of enjoy this because I know exactly what's happening to my animal during the exam and why. Anyway, come here if you want to support a small local business, and not a mainland based company like West Maui Vet.

Dr Knee did a great job of explaining the possible reasons of my cat's problem ear, discussing options as well. He gave him a steroid shot and had his ears cleaned by the tech. What I really liked about him is he asked to first sit and discuss the issues before pulling my cat out of carrier. So many times at other veterinary places they often do all the talking while the cat is just sitting there on exam table acting nervous! I felt it was a very thorough exam and the pricing is about the same as other veterinarian offices. He was very personable and professional. I am glad to have found a new vet doctor for my cat. He needed his teeth cleaned desperately. Where I lived on the main land there were only 2 Vets that did dental and I was not established with either having my local vet. Moved to Maui and was family recommended to MVC. It cost me $2500.00 to have his teeth cleaned and yes they did a good job. My boy was in excellent health being we had to go through so much to bring him on island. Let's just understand I spent A LOT $$$. But he's my boy and money didn't matter. What matters is having his best interest be first and foremost. Now currently not needing any care since the cleaning, I called and asked for a calming med as New Years approaches and I was told no that he had to be seen. I consider this absolutely unacceptable !!!!! He's FOUR POUNDS !!! And he is EXTREMELY SCARED of fireworks !!! I don't think that was asking for too much . Clearly they want $$$$$ !!! Every time I have any kind of medical issue with my animals, their staff is so prompt in getting us…read morein for an appointment. I've been coming here for 7 +/- years and couldn't be happier. I just had a huge issue with one of my dogs with kidney stones as big as the tip of your thumb. There was no way that they were going to get blasted to break up to where they could pass. So she had to have surgery and they were so booked that we had to schedule out further than anticipated. The doctor knew how important this was and rearranged her schedule so we could get her in the following day. I'm so happy that they are so sincere and you can feel how much they care about you and your fur babies. And I know if they can't get back to me right away it's because 9 out of 10 times they have to wait for somebody else to get them. Thank you for caring for my fur babies.
