The venue itself is gorgeous, it really epitomises all the Georgian glamour of the New Town with the opulent décor and grand high ceilings. The staff are really friendly too - if i worked in a fancy hotel the last thing I'd want to have to do would be to wait on a load of students having their end of year balls, but if the staff here thought that they did an excellent job of hiding it. The other thing that struck me was how nice the food was, considering they were catering for a huge number of people the attention to detail and consistency in the quality of all 3 courses was commented on by several people at our table. The drinks prices at the cash bar were a bit excessive though, although I suppose it's only to be expected oin a nice hotel. And I guess you do have to treat yourself every once in a while! It may not have the same reputation as The Balmoral, but I'd say this place is batter hands down.

The people at the reception area are very polite and not in a snotty way. It is just their lifestyle and I think its rather cool how they speak and treat people. I would come down for breakfast with my jogging sweats and bad hair, and I was treated just as well and courteous as people with suits. THe place overall looks well kept and it is in a good location as well. I like the workout facilities and sauna too. Plus they had the lobby well decorated for Christmas. Yeah the music during breakfast was a bit out of place but no one is perfect. Just want to also mention they do have wi-fi and is fast. And the bathroom had this mirror that lights up and can magnify every cell (or just wrinkle) on your face if you have any. For a backpack traveler like me I found it fun to poke around with it.

The food is good here too and in my opinion not very expensive. But you may feel less quantity depending on what you order. The staff is very courteous and very helpful too. It's a great scenic location with a large private area. The only con about this place is the distance from the main center. It is really far and if your itinerary has more around central Edinburgh then I would not recommend this place especially when they don't have a daily shuttle until the city center (They only provide until the metro station which is too early for noon and early evening returns only).

I work on a very strict budget and this worked out fantastically as we were only 12. The organisation was very easy, a minimum of emails and everything was arranged, no fuss! Everyone I spoke to beforehand was lovely and polite. When we arrived there was a slight change to the schedules and when I informed them of this they adapted quickly. Our 'guy' for the day was Patrick and he was not only fantastic in helping us get set up but also very quiet when he needed to set things up at the back of the room while someone was presenting. The food was excellent. Morning coffee was perfect with a small selection of biscuits, tea, very smooth, good coffee and a selection of green and fruit teas. Lunch was a wide selection of sandwiches, and I mean wide, served with prawn skewers, chicken skewers, twisty fries, falafel and some Tunnocks tea cakes for authenticity! For afternoon tea we were given a selection of hot drinks with warm fruit scones and a selection of jams. After our lunch we were given the key to Queens Street Gardens, and despite the rain a few of us headed out. I thought this was a nice touch as, I know it's just a park, but it's somewhere you don't get the chance to check out very often! The equipment was great, instead of a projector and white screen we were supplied with a massive flatscreen TV which was great for our needs. Although the older ones thought it made the text in presentations too small! And the usual, pencils, writing paper, sweets and water were up to scratch. All in all, it was a really nice experience, everything went off without a hitch and considering the price, particularly in comparison with the rest of Edinburgh, it is a stellar venue for small meetings!

The mini bar was free and yes they did restock all of the alcohol and non alcoholic items. My only complaint about the room is the bathroom. It was quite small and couldve been cleaner. The shower also had a half door which let out tons of water causing the bathroom floor to get soaked. Sure it looked nice, but not very functional. The room we stayed in didn't get too much sound from the street, but I do hear some chatter in the middle of the night, likely from people coming out of the dome. Since we booked using chase sapphire reserve's the edit, we got daily breakfast for 2, $100 dining credit, a welcome amenity, and early check in/late check out (we got 2pm late check out). The breakfast was fine. It included a buffet and an item off their menu (eggs Benedict, omelette, etc.). We spent the dining credit at the Le petit beef bar. The food was excellent - great steak and frites as well as croque sando with their signature sauce (herby and buttery). Highly recommend especially if it's your first time in Edinburgh and want to explore all the top spots.

Probably one of the negatives of staying in a building with an older facade.

The bed was fairly comfortable and the bedding was clean and fresh along with the towels. There were no plug sockets on either side of the bed and one of the lamps had no bulb. The bathroom was clean but definitely dated, the shower curtain smelled damp and the shower head sprayed water everywhere which caused issues. This was all fed back to staff but unfortunately got no response. The saving grace was the fact the bar and restaurant area is clearly a new addition or had recently been revamped. My food was pretty good and there was a decent choice on the menu.

Yet, I found their staff to be very helpful in assisting with questions when I approached them. My room was a decent sized room and similar to other Marriott Courtyards in other cities. Location was excellent for me as it was closed to many restaurants, shopping centers and less than a 10 minute walk to places I wanted to visit close to the city center. Be aware of the bike path right in front of the hotel and look twice to avoid any potential accidents. Breakfast had a variety of cold and hot options. It is a super busy place but I didn't feel rushed to leave. We also had our farewell dinner at their restaurant. It was a decent meal.
