I'm gluten intolerant and was prepared to eat the snacks I brought from home, but they made me gluten-free pancakes from scratch! Mary and Andy were so conscious of giving us our space and privacy, but we grew to love them so much, we found ourselves seeking out ways to spend time with and learn from them. They gave us a tour of the home, which has been carefully renovated to preserve its rich history and architectural character, while also providing the comforts and luxuries of a modern home. We learned about the history of Salisbury and how the town has evolved since its founding in 1755! We came for a wedding but would happily return to Salisbury just to stay in our cherished Across the Pond Bed and Breakfast.

To start, Greek yogurt with honey, fresh diced fruit (apples & oranges), and warm zucchini bread. Followed by a vegetable omelette, sliced strawberries, roasted potatoes and tomatoes. Seasoned to taste, appetizing and filling. Drink options varied from coffee, tea and juices. Noted*, there was a small hall way with stairs going up to the other rooms, and half bath & into the dining sun room. This is where breakfasts would be, coffee, tea and snacks were available whenever you wanted and the house was simply charming. There was a formal dining room too- I loved the antiques and historic quality in the decor. Jessica and her husband bought the Duck Smith House a couple years ago and they were both very generous with any help and information. I did partake in the puzzle and helped finish it. The breakfasts were simply delightful! Our first morning, she made apple sourdough pancakes that were an inch thick (at least)! And the bacon!!! Day two was quiche- one of my favorites and day three was waffles with stewed apples. I overheard Jessica telling someone else that she tries to rotate between sweet and savory for breakfast. John and I also enjoyed all the kitties, the goats- I fed them some grapes! and I loved the pumpkin patch they had set up for the weekend! John even went out to Justin's model shop. The Inn itself is beautiful and historic. It's located in the heart of downtown Winston, but has its own parking lot which is a huge plus. Our dinner was in a reserved room on a Friday evening. It was a great room for our group of about 11-12. Our waiter, Gary, was THE BEST! He had a radiant personality, and was super attentive! The chefs (Kelly and Juan) came out to talk to us and were a pleasure. The food! I can't wait for this to be a constant menu at the restaurant! We had Fried Green Tomatoes, Mandarin and Goat Cheese Walnut Salad, Braised Short Rib over polenta dish, and Crème Brûlée cheesecake. YUM! And the drinks were very unique and delicious. Neither my daughter or I live in North Carolina so we had to travel. When I first reached out to the owner Nicole she was very pleasant and it made me feel comfortable to spend my money with her. She provided me all the details involved in my package and I was satisfied with the details and what I was getting for my money so, I locked in. Once locked in Nicole's communication changed. She took forever to respond back to my questions about decor and then proceeded to tell me we have plenty of time to go over decorations because my shower is in January and we will get tighter in December to discuss. I understood and tried not to bother her unless I had questions that needed to be answered from my caterer. December arrives and still nothing so o reached out and again I had to wait for a response. By this time I'm getting anxious because I have already paid the full amount for the for the event. When I did finally speak with her, I asked if we can have a Zoom meeting because I am from out of town to see what she had decorating wise, and she proceeded to tell me that she had not purchased the item yet, but she will have them the day of the shower that made me real uneasy. I contacted her on my way into town to inform her that I will be there and ask if I can come see the venue prior to the baby shower which was three days before and she told me that she would not be available until the morning of that again made me real uneasy because I didn't know what I was walking into. I was informed by my Caterer that she didn't even know what time the event started and she stated that she didn't realize it was that earl. I have never worked with a professional that I was unable to see the event space or the decorations and give my stamp of approval since I am the paying customer and this is my vision that they are bringing to life. On the day of the shower, I received a text message from Nicole that informed me that I can now come before 10 am at 9:15am. I replied back that I was going to be late and Nicole called me 30 minutes later to informed me she had left the venue and proceeded to give me instructions on Cleanup. I was in shock when she said she left because I had never met this woman. Once arrived I had trouble finding the venue because it's inside a building and she had me come through the back. The building has horrible reception and I issues with getting directions from Nicole without going outside because her venue is located on the basement. When I finally got down in the basement and saw the spot I was immediately disappointed. The decorations were lack luster. A lot of wall space that had not been covered with decorations. The table formula daughter and husband to sit at was barely decorated and I didn't care for it at all. I couldn't get anything to work until she finally provided me the WiFi and then only the music I was able to get to work, but I was able was unable to use the tv to do the slideshow of pics we discussed. The bathrooms are on the outside of the venue which isn't a problem unless you have a key which I didn't have and I had to keep asking the ladies across the hall for the key as they were trying to braid hair. No tissue in the rest rooms so we had to figure out who to ask. Had she waited around for my arrival to greet me as a paying customer and give me instructions and a tour in person things could've been a little better knowing your service sucks in a basement. Needless to say, I did not enjoy myself and I tried to keep my cool for my daughter's sake. I wanted this to turn out beautiful. We traveled way too far for mediocrity and I paid a good penny for her service that was very lackluster and unprofessional. I'm just now settling to write this review because I was so disappointed. I couldn't even talk to her when she decided to come at the end for clean up because I didn't want to make a scene and embarrass my child. This experience has put a bad taste in my mouth about planning an event out of state. I hate giving bad reviews, but this experience was horrible.
