This convention center is well laid out, clean and the staff is phenomenal. I was in town recently for a national conference and was impressed by the professional staff, AV services (especially from Joseph and his tech partner who assisted us in Room W206A), and the staff serving drinks and food for receptions. Everyone I encountered on site this past week was so courteous, hardworking and welcoming. If you are attending an event here, definitely bring a sweater or wear layers, as the rooms were quite cold. Wear comfy shoes too and expect a lot of walking and long bathroom and Starbucks lines, in between conference sessions. But overall, a nice experience here. The food court area offers some quick and affordable lunch options. There are also restaurant and hotel options within a short walk. Be cautious when crossing the public transit lines, as the trains move fast. read more

The Charlotte Convention Center was probably the most convenient convention I've experienced to date. LOCATION I attended a conference that was held at the Charlotte Convention Center for a work week and was surprised at how close everything was to the convention. It was surrounded by hotels, restaurants, Whole Foods, a CVS, and the NASCAR Hall of Fame. It was easy to get around Uptown from the convention. INSIDE THE CONVENTION: It was easy to navigate within the convention, too, as the signs were clearly labeled. The only thing I thought was odd were the rooms in 206-212 (where you'd have to go down escalators and then come back up). I would have labeled it a different number sequence so as not to be confusing with the other set of rooms in the 200s. I loved that there was a bridge that connected the convention to our hotel (2nd floor of The Westin), as well as access from the NASCAR Hall of Fame directly in front of the Crown Ballroom! CUSTOMER SERVICE & STAFF: Each day during the conference, my coworker and I would walk from our hotel (The Westin, which was across the street) and we would be greeted by the friendliest door greeters / information desk. Also, we went around the Richardson Ballrooms, exhibit hall, smaller rooms, terrace (roof), Crown Ballroom, etc. it was carpeted so it was easy to walk on. The convention staff including the Food & Service team were really nice and were attentive; they made sure to keep the food area tidy and cleared away trash from the tables. The bartenders serving drinks were organized as well. DINING OPTIONS INSIDE THE CONVENTION: The convention had other dining options: Starbucks, Bojangles, Einstein Bagels, and another place to purchase food. Overall, I enjoyed the ease of getting around the convention center, the proximity to hotels and restaurants in Uptown Charlotte, the amenities they offered, and the attentive staff at Charlotte Convention Center. read more

The Charlotte Convention Center is a great venue for large shows and meetings. Very well organized with clear signage was a plus. Inside there is a shipping store as well as several places to grab a snack. Just outside the Convention Center were beautiful areas to view or simply hang out. Second time experiencing the Charlotte Cup at this convention center and it's definitely the perfect venue to accommodate the guests, staff, and athletes. Centrally located to everything such as a walk across the street from the hotels and various food establishments, the location is prime. Parking isn't cheap but there is a dedicated garage with five floors to park in. The convention center itself is vast with mini shops such as Starbucks and Bojangles inside to accommodate guests. Unfortunately, they weren't open around the times we were there, would've been nice. Facilities are kept extremely clean. Every bathroom was spotless, stocked with paper, and just well maintained. I really enjoyed this venue and it certainly wears suitable to accommodate the large crowds and make people feel comfortable, especially with all the lounging areas to sit down and rest. read more

Attended a trade show here for the first time and had a pleasant experience. It's a medium sized convention center and fairly easily to navigate after a day of learning your surroundings. It was interesting how you had to take an elevator or escalator to access the main trade show hall. The main level and upper levels seemed primarily for conference/classroom/large gala style setups. They do have a nice open air/outdoor patio on the upper level where the conference I attended had an evening event. It appeared all catering was handled in-house. They also had a mother's room for nursing with a fridge! This was a great find as a nursing mother on her first trip away from baby! For food options they had a Starbucks with limited offerings and everyday they would open one of their chain food stands within the convention center; Einstein bagels, Bo jangles(fried chicken) and another I can't recall. Make sure to get there at prime lunch hour because they sell out and don't stay open long. read more

First time visiting this convention center. Easy to get to from the highway, and several parking garages in the area make it an easy spot to get to for events. It appeared the local train also had a stop at the convention center as well The space is large, a bit chaotically laid out though. Bathrooms and all areas were well maintained and kept clean. Security was friendly and helpful with pointing people in the right direction as far as getting in and out of the building. There is a Starbucks and a few food options in side. There is also concession stands with surprisingly reasonably priced burgers and sandwiches. There are many hotels and restaurants within walking distance which helps make things convenient for people in town for several days. I'd attend more events here read more

This event has been named in honor of a young cheerleader named Hope who was diagnosed with cancer, but in her fight she encouraged other athletes to always press on and never give up hope. Do Not Hold Your Meeting Here!! The Crown Ballroom is freezing and constantly smells like cigarette smoke. All the Convention Center employees take their smoke breaks in the stairwells behind the Crown Ballroom. Additionally the set up crew will remove your cable ramps so the can run tables right over you fiber optic cables. All the attendees are bundled up in their winter coats, hats and gloves because it is freezing. It took 3 days to get a house engineer to come to the room in order to gain control of the house lights. When you want security, you cannot use the house phones because they are connected to NOTHING! I will also add that what doors to the center were open when was not consistent. I never entered the building the same way twice. read more

Its a convention center... so it's hard to love it or hate it. I was there before 7am and interacted with a security guard who was friendly. Everything seemed to be clean. There were hand-sani stations around which is a nice feature in today's environment. I had a catered lunch and the food and staff were fine. No issues, but the parking is too expensive. What an experience! Whoever designed this building had fun! One elevator took you to one side, then had to figure out which other one took you to the other side. One escalator took you here, a different one took you there! After the 2nd day we thought we had it figured out, but NOPE! Day 1 my daughter twisted her ankle on a chair and grinned and bared it until day 3 when we finally had to have a medic look at it. Dixie from Sports med at Atrium was amazing! Wheeled her into our next to last seminar and told her to stay off it. (We refused transport) I knocked a star off due to the crazy heat, we saw the thermostat at one point stating it was 74° inside. There was also not nearly enough seating, we sat on the floor many times to eat lunches due to this. Not fun read more

I've been to this location three times now and I've enjoyed it every time. From the location, to the size, and the amenities. This location is across the street from the blue line station. This was my preferred mode of travel. No worries about parking, traffic, or parking fees. The convention center is huge and provides plenty of room for any need you may have big or small. read more

Great location in Uptown Charlotte with hotels and parking nearby. But for me, I like it because it's super accessible by Light Rail with a stop right next door! There are restaurants nearby, too. It's a very large facility on multiple floors with lots of space. Restrooms abound and they were clean. There was a wifi signal that I was able to connect to, but I don't know if that's always online. I was here for the Lego Brick Fest. I was at the Charlotte Convention Center to attend an event that was hosted by the local Mental Health Of America of the Central Carolinas. It was an EARLY event, as it started promptly at 730am. Breakfast was served that consisted of a plate of an assortment of breakfast pastries & a coffee cup full of various fruit that served as an "appetizer" before the main breakfast dish was brought out. Drink options were water and orange juice. The servers asked if you wanted coffee upon being seated. The reason I'm giving this review 3 stars is because I had a higher expectation for the food. I'm typically impressed when I go to convention centers or hotels. It could be because majority of the time I eat either lunch or dinner. The chicken sausage was pretty good and I appreciated the non beef and non pork option. The Roma tomato: I could have done without. Maybe it's a personal preference, but I enjoy them cold and hard. You could tell this was cooked or warmed up or whatever, but it wasn't seasoned and it was soft. The spinach quiche didn't taste like anything spectacular. That too tasted as if it were void of seasoning. The potatoes were regular as well. The service provided was great though. They cleared the tables quickly and without much disturbance and were very efficient with ensuring those at my table kept their cups full of coffee. read more

Great venue for any type of event as they have varying space sizes from small exhibit halls to their Crown Ballroom. Last night we participated in Chef's Best 2017 to benefit Second Harvest Metrolina, with food by Chef Rocco of Fahrenheit-Charlotte and it was top notch! Parking is pretty simple even during a crowded event on the weekend. Go towards the NASCAR hall of fame from Brevard st and the parking deck is on the left before Stonewall. Elevators are on the wall opposite of the entrance so try an find spot nearby! Our event had nearly 1000 participants with an open bar, hours d'oeuvres, a three course meal, and a wine pairing in between each. The Convention Center Staff integrated wonderfully with Chef Rocco's team and had each course served to the entire Ballroom in less than 3 minutes per course. Impressive, lots of planning well executed! We even had a few requests at our table (extra bread, or San Pellegrino for the table) and they delivered near instantly! Plenty of space between rooms and exhibit halls for crowd control, as well as immaculate restrooms all around. If you're planning on attending an event, or organizing one yourself, it's a great convention center! Much better than experiences I've had at cons and events elsewhere! read more

Bac again for another competition. Not much has changed except they eliminated the people stamping hands. Still nowhere to sit except on the concrete floor. They also eliminated the temperature check but went through the inane COVID questions which I'm sure is another stupid government program like having the airlines asking questions about your luggage. For being a convention center, it didn't feel overwhelmingly huge or spread out (though to be fair, living in Chicago I'm at McCormick Place occasionally, so anything is going to feel smaller compared to that!). The location is right in Uptown, near many hotels and restaurants, and also near their rail line. It's a well-laid out space, with clear signage to get to the different levels and areas. I didn't eat at the food court area, but it seemed to be nice enough. They also had a Starbucks one level down from the food court, which always get a plus in my book. The wi-fi was a little weird, the conference I was attending was supposed to have its own account, but I could never find it. The convention center also had a free wi-fi, but my phone wouldn't stay connected. A minor inconvenience, but worth mentioning if you would happen to need wi-fi while there. read more

I came here for the first time to volunteer for 3 hours. NASCAR parking deck is right next door so it was really convenient. I didn't even have to get on the street after I parked to get here. The convention center is huge! It was very open. It also had a few restaurants and a Starbucks inside. I got to sat during a speaking event and the atmosphere was nice! read more

Was here recently for the HRC NC Gala Dinner and I must say I was impressed. Large, expansive space really allows for large groups without the feeling of being overly crowded. With several rooms to chose from there seems to always be something going on here. The lighting in our room was fantastic and the ceilings were probably 30+ feet giving it an arena type feel. New finishes and updated decor really help with this otherwise older building. There are other larger breakout areas where you can sometimes find auto shows or similar. read more

Need an absolutely giant event venue? Look to the Convention Center. While this space doesn't exactly have a ton of personality, the spaces are huge and the staff are incredibly helpful when it comes to catering to guests or simply showing folks around. And don't be surprised that everything is super duper squeaky clean. It's worth noting that the space feels a bit cold and even institutional at times. The food I've had here is tasty albeit expensive. It's typical banquet eats with an elevated taste profile. Charlotte needed a convention center of this magnitude, so I'm certainly glad it's available. I do wish I saw more creative, local events held here, but I'm sure the space and size make those cost prohibitive. read more

The home of HerosCon for years and it's only getting better. I've been going to HereosCon in Charlotte since I was a kid (and now in my mid-30's) and it's always been held in the Charlotte convention center. It's moved around inside the convention center, changed in size and layout but each year it's a noticeable improvement. The convention space is massive and offers lots of areas to get away from the crowds and take a moment for yourself. The restroom situation is actually very good for a convention space since it's easy to find a bathroom away from the main halls that isn't destroyed. Finding a decent place to take a #2 is something most people want to know but are afraid to ask. Pro-tip, go to the second floor halls because that's where the good single stalls are. Inside the convention space there is a Starbucks stand and a Bojangle's stand. They are working to add in food and beverages on top of the food the convention offers like your typical hot dogs, nachos, and other related foods. Another Pro-tip: There's a Starbuck's not to far from the convention center that is always easier to walk to and way less of a line since the Starbucks in the convention center is always mobbed. Around the convention there are lots of restaurants and an incredibly nice new Whole Foods that is right next door and probably the best place to escape and grab something to eat. Parking is hit or miss. I recommend staying at the Courtyard Marriott or the Westin next door and then parking is included. This is a convention space in the heart of Charlotte. It's nice because its large but it's not intimidating like convention spaces can be in other big cities. It feels very safe and downtown Charlotte in general is very safe for anyone concerned about that. I highly recommend going to any convention here except anything related to the GOP and the trash they continue to sell. Besides that highly recommended. read more

The correct address is 501 S College St. The center facility is fine, nice big, brightly lit interiors. But only three stars because the bathrooms in the center are very unclean, smell bad and generally look like they're cleaned once a year. I don't care how many people have to use them in one day, you should schedule enough cleanings for every single bathroom to keep up with appearances and odors. That's what we're paying for. It's probably because I was at the Westin half the day that I still had a good experience but if I'd spent all day only using the Convention Center I definitely would have left with a much less pleasant experience. read more

Overdue for a renovation Positive: Location - downtown, on the light rail Food - Starbucks, Bojangles, Einstein bagels all very close. Size - it's a relatively small convention center, so it is easy to get from place to place, but this probably limits the types of shows that will come here. Negatives: Limited restrooms or they seem to be difficult to find Lack of outlets - there are many tables, but no outlets. The only seating with outlets I can find is with my back to traffic so whoever can watch what I'm working on and it's practically in a dark corner. Multi-story - this makes it difficult to get in and out of the convention center with trunks for exhibits. The elevators are difficult to find and some didn't seem to want to work Escalators are for one person at a time - don't think about standing to the right to let someone in a rush by. Wifi does not work in Hall C (lowest level) and I can't get any cell service. read more

I do enjoy coming in here for various events or conventions. The staff are always pleasant and helpful. There are a lot of smaller-sized private event spaces in the back/other side of the building from the exhibit hall. I'm not a fan of the concession stands in general as the staff there are not as helpful and the food they have isn't really worth getting. Parking is easy enough and there is plenty of parking in that immediate area. I like that the Westin is right next door as that makes for easy access to the convention center. read more

I worked a promotion here during CIAA for the 3x3 Basket ball tournament. Yes there was room for a basketball game & then a ton of space for vendors & standing room. Super clean, modern & well staffed. There's a Starbucks in here!! If you are here for CIAA weekend or any major city event, consider taking the Lynx Light Rail. Parking is extremely limited & cost anywhere from $15-30. The light rail is right behind the convention center & only costs $2.25. Thank me Later!!! read more

Ultimately, this is a convention center just like any other convention center. Big open space for exhibit halls? Check. Bathrooms? Check. Insanely overpriced food court and vending machines? Check. They cover the basics pretty well. However, the place appears to have been designed by special needs students of M.C. Escher. A frigging train goes through the middle of the building. First floor rooms are labeled 2. Sometimes to get to rooms on the second floor (3), you need to go down to the first floor and go back up again. It's a nightmare, and not a sexy nightmare either. Man, Oh Man I forgot how huge the Charlotte Convention Center is! This past weekend I had the pleasure of spending nearly every waking moment of my day inside the Convention Center. Upon my arrival the convention center was playing host to 3 major event; the National Convention for NACA and 300+ universities nationwide, an International Motorcycle show in addition to the CIAA basketball tourney meetings/conferences. The convention center is so large that the only time I interacted with persons from these other events was in passing or riding one of the numerous escalators. Inside the conference rooms, meeting halls and exhibit spaces the Convention center staff did a phenomenal job creating an environment that logically flowed from one space to the next, and stationed themselves along the hallways and across all levels of the convention center to ensure that no was were to get lost. And if lost, all one had to do was simply ask a staff for a little guidance and would be immediately assisted with superior customer service. I digress, let's get back to the sheer size of this place. According to the Convention Center website there is 280,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space, 850,000 sq. ft. of state-of-the-art features and award winning amenities, More than 90,000 sq. ft.of flexible meeting space, 35,000 sq. ft. Convention Center Ballroom, 40,000 sq. ft. Crown Ballroom and a Full service in-house catering. I'm sorry but that is ALOT going on under one roof. Imagine what you could do with all of that space, amenities, and friendly staff! The possibilities are truly endless. With all that being said if you need a GIGANTIC space for any known reason under the sun, pick the Charlotte Convention Center! You'll thank yourself later ;) P.S. If you get hungry for a little snack the convention center is also home to an inhouse Bojangles', Buon Cibo, and Einstein Bros. Bagels. read more

Large enough for any event. I should have wandered around more to learn all the exit/ entry points so I can have better ideas where to park. It can be a hassle finding a spot, walking to the front entrance, and walking further to your meeting room. There's a few food options that are pricier than normal (Bojangles), but we opted to go outside and support the restaurants and sandwich shops on The Green right across the street. read more

Like any large city, a solid convention center is a must. This convention center is large and able to accommodate multiple events at one time. I've been here a few times and each time I've found it to be a bit of a labyrinth. There are multiple layers and wings, but thankfully I eventually found the room I was looking for. They even have a rather large food court. I'm thinking back to other convention centers and I don't remember a food court in them. Besides getting food on site, there are numerous restaurants in the nearby vicinity as long as you don't mind a short walk. Their catering service is top notch! I came here for the Lego Kids Fest, and as intimidating as that sounds, the convention center staff and the Lego associates kept this event running smoothly. The convention center is very clean and easily accessible for anyone wanting to come in and visit, with elevators and escalators located everywhere for you to use. With a Starbucks located inside, as well as a Bojangles, you really wouldn't have to go too far for all of your basic needs. read more

The Convention Center is nestled right in the heart of Uptown. Parking is a little sketchy, and at time costly but for major events I'd say it is totally worth it. The venue itself is huge! And it offers a nice space for major events. While I was only able to see one portion of what the space has to offer, I was really impressed with the size. There was nothing else really major to boast from inside the venue. I didn't see anything that "wow"ed me. But just based on it's size it looks like a great addition to Charlotte. read more

We just had fifty high school students interview here and it was a great location. Kind of a ghost town because it's so large, but the space was really nice. Our event coordinator was a bit worried because there were several different people involved (e.g., space, food, parking, etc.) but everything went smoothly and we'll likely host the interviews there again. In the past we were at the Westin but this place was half the price! The wifi was definitely spotty but it was free so that was a plus. They had several places to grab some food like Einstein bagels and Bojangles. We had their catering and it was fantastic. Has anyone ever said that about convention center catering? There were a variety of salads, sandwiches, acorn & carrot soup, key lime pie and chocolate mousse. Overall, we had a really positive experience and we'll be back! read more

I travel to quite a few conventions, have been here twice. It is big. Very big. Too big, almost. It is so easy to get lost in this HUGE multi-level place. The signage and directions for conventions I have attended have been poor. I've spent a lot of time wandering around trying to figure out which halls, etc. There is a nice selection of different little restaurant places inside but - Skip Them! The best thing about this place is its location on College Street. There are so many exceptional restaurants within just a few blocks. And, downtown Charlotte is lovely! So many fountains, open areas, gardens to visit. My other BIG complaint about this place....charging too much for Wi-Fi packages. Look, stop being cheap. Business and trade groups are already paying you huge $$$ for the place and services. Throw in wireless. Why is this such a hassel? Because in many places, something about the building seems to really disrupt wireless data signals to your 3G/4G phone. So, if you're planning on tethering with you cell phone to get wireless, you have to be up in the open common areas to keep from being dropped. Lame. Don't even try to get it in the big exhibition hall. read more
