Best Western Green Valley Inn - Property at Sunset

This hotel property itself deserved negative stars for safety, cleanliness and overall maintenance and I cannot recommend it. The condition of this property is truly an embarrassment to the Best Western brand. I wasn't expecting luxury but Best Westerns are always, in my experience, well maintained, clean and reliable. The desk chair in our room is a reflection of the property: still functional but in destroyed condition. There is no pride in the condition. Our bathroom was clean when we check in but dirty clothes from a past guest were under the bed... a clear indication the room had not been vacuumed. The doors to the exterior were equipped with cards to limit access after hours but each door was open. If you have a multi day stay, be warned that they will not clean your room during your stay. You must request that service 3 days ahead of time. If you'd like clean towels you have to go to the front desk which is not staffed 24 hours. So, plan ahead. No toiletries are provided but again, just ask the staff at the front desk and they will be happy to provide. When next in the area I will unfortunately avoid this hotel at all costs and recommend you do the same, until or unless it has been renovated.

While not fancy, my room was clean and had everything I needed. A powerful air conditioner to deal with the July Arizona heat, work desk, ice bucket, mini fridge / freezer, coffee machine, large flatscreen TV with streaming services so I wasn't bombarded by endless ads in the evening, free breakfast at the attached restaurant / pub. The staff at the front desk was universally pleasant and helpful, as was the cleaning staff and the staff at the 19th Hole restaurant. I will stay here again without bothering to look for other lodging the next time I visit Green Valley.

We were so impressed that we didn't even explore any other Robson communities in the area. We were looking for a senior community that made you feel like you were away at Summer overnight camp. Well, that is exactly what we found; without the "popular jocks or mean girls". We spent 3 days in the rental home property and were completely SOLD on the community. We found everyone to be more than friendly, active, and willing to share ideas and make our experience the best it could be. We immediately felt like one of the community members. We explored both re-sales and new construction. There is nothing like new construction which affords you any and all of the amenities and designs that YOU want for about the same price as the re-sales. Don't let re-sales fool you. People do not leave because they do not love the community, they leave to be closer to their children as they age and require more supports. The Robson building experience surpasses all and any expectations. It is your own personal experience with an army of supports from the staff, booking agent, Mike our superintendent, to our personal customer service representative Charles. There are so MANY people to recognize, but my hand holders extraordinaire were Cozette in sales and Katie in design. I should stop now even though I really want tot go on. You WILL not regret buying here unless you are not interested in enjoying your "GOLDEN YEARS". We built the Cortez model.

We ended up leaving early and would not stay here again. The…read moreroom we were assigned was ground level with a sliding door that opened directly into an active parking lot no barrier, no separation, just cars and people walking directly past with full visibility into the room. Traveling with a toddler, this felt unsafe and completely inappropriate. There was direct access to moving vehicles just steps outside the door and no real sense of privacy. The next morning, we tried to address this at the front desk and were told to contact a manager. We followed instructions, called, left a voicemail, and provided our personal number. No one ever called back. The front desk interaction with Mike was also unprofessional and dismissive, which made the situation worse instead of better. We chose not to stay the remaining nights due to safety concerns and lack of response, yet the hotel still refused to authorize any refund for the unused portion of the stay. This was not the level of care or accountability I would expect from a property that markets itself as a resort.

The property itself is beautiful, but unfortunately the customer service left a lot to be desired…read more After spending over $1,000 for two nights, I received a phone call three hours after checking out accusing me of taking a pillow from the room. I rented a suite that was essentially two connected rooms. We used the sofa bed and left the bedding in the king room. The pillow they were questioning was supposedly from the double-bed room. If I had known they were counting pillows and towels so closely, I would have taken photos of everything before unpacking. Being accused of stealing something so minor was honestly insulting. What made the situation worse is that the property seems to track everything in an unusually strict way. If you ask for extra towels, you must provide the exact number of dirty towels in exchange. At the pool, towels are not freely available like most resorts; you have to sign them out to your room and they count them again when you return them. Breakfast was also disappointing. It is advertised more generously than what is actually provided. Each guest receives one omelet, two microwaved sausages, a very small cup of fruit, a small portion of potatoes, and two tiny microwaved pancakes. They stamp your card so you cannot receive any additional items. Even though our suite had a dining table, guests are not allowed to take the paper plates or utensils back to their rooms. The property itself is lovely, but the constant counting of towels, food, and even pillows made the experience feel uncomfortable and unwelcoming. The final phone call accusing me of taking a pillow was the unfortunate ending to what could have been a relaxing stay.

The room I was given was good enough for a one or two night stay; a little small but it was clean and all the furnishings seemed to be in good shape. Room had a large flat-screen TV and a small fridge which was a nice touch. Very comfy bed which is what I've experienced at other Holiday Inn's. Decent continental breakfast in the morning with pancakes, biscuits and a pre-made egg/cheese thing along with a selection of juices. The only drawbacks were I was told the elevator was out of order *after* I'd checked-in. My room was on the second floor and luckily my wife and I were traveling light and had no problem with the stairs. Still would have been nice to have been given the option to have a room on the ground floor. Judging by the lack of the cars in the parking lot I doubt that the ground floor (or the rest of the hotel) was filled. The vending machines needed to be re-stocked and it doesn't really seem to be within walking distance to anything other than a car wash and a Dairy Queen. Not a bad place to spend a night or two, just ask about the elevator before checking-in! LOL

Make sure you do not get a room on the south side of the building. There's a Ford dealer next door and car alarms went off several times during the night. It's located next to the bird feeders and the gift shop within walking distance which makes it an ideal. You get a parking space with your cabin. There is a front and back porch for bird watching, a nature sound bath, reading ... or anything. Of note, the front porch is shaded. With beautiful trees, mountain views and being away from city life it's perfect to unplug and connect with nature. The shower is a little 'odd' - it's pretty high, almost directly over your head, and the shower head is small. If you are on the shorter side, it can be a bit challenging to move the shower head to where you need it. This cabin slants a bit. I think it just adds the rustic-ness of it. Enjoy it. A few other things you need to know- the cabins are in Madera Canyon which is part of the Coronado National forest. There are no restaurants- so bring a fun picnic to enjoy. Or you can drive 25-30 into town for food. You will likely have no cell service when in Madera Canyon. The lodge / cabins do come with wifi included. You are in a forest. Be responsible- clean up after yourself, expect wildlife to exist, don't try to feed or pet wildlife ... and sure as heck don't expect sympathy if you get attacked by wildlife for your stupidity if you try to friend them or don't take caution. The lodge has several bird feeders and you can spend hours enjoying birdwatching. Also you can request a humming bird feeder for your cabin ( how cool is that!) Super fun experience. Definitely will be back.
