We visited for my wife's birthday and it could not have been better. The Inn is perfect with a very welcoming atmosphere! Janina, was the perfect hostess and went way above to make our visit perfect. She placed roses in the room, hung happy birthday signs at breakfast, and made my wife the perfect vegan breakfast. Our room was excellent, clean, and comfortable and included a private entrance if needed. We loved Luray and we loved our stay. The price was very competitive to other B&Bs in the area, but I doubt any of them can beat our experience! I cannot recommend this place highly enough. We will absolutely be back!!! read more

If you are in the Shenandoah area I cannot recommend the Inn at the Shenandoah enough! My boyfriend and I stayed here for over the weekend and it was perfect. It was his birthday and I called the owners to inquire about their add packages including the birthday one. Well they went above and beyond. The room as you can see in the photos was sweetly decorated, my boyfriend loved it! The room itself is great. We had a queen bed, a jacuzzi tub, electric fireplace and a balcony! A couple blocks from the Inn is a very scenic creek walkway. We did a few laps to soak up the beautiful weather we had over the weekend. If you are in the area definitely stay at the Inn! read more

Stayed while visiting Luray Caverns. Great Inn in the center of town, next to an excellent Steak House. Large well appointed Suite with a Jaccuzi and shower. Nice balconies on several rooms. Art was attentive and welcoming. He really made it seem like you were a personal guest. The Inn has lots of group spaces and is a nice mix of modern conveniences and period decoration. This is an awesome B & B!!! Prior to arrival we were asked what kind of quiche we liked and that, plus fresh made pastries, fresh fruit, yogurt , fresh squeezed orange juice and more is what we had for breakfast the next day. Upon arrival we were greeted by Art, the property manager. He carried our luggage up to our room, then showed us our fabulous Victorian accommodations, taking the time to explain all the amenities. Then he took us down to look at the home which he told us to use like it was our own home. We had a jacuzzi in our room which we took full advantage of. Art learned it was our anniversary so before we could even get settled in he texted us saying there was a bottle of wine on the table outside our door. One day Art forgot to put some scones out for breakfast. As we were heading out for the day he rushed out to the car with a baggie of scones. There is no daily service but you are given a laundry basket to set wet towels in. Just put it outside your door with your garbage and voila you have clean towels and an empty waste basket waiting for you on return. During our stay Art always went above and beyond. My husband's lens fell out of his glasses. Art went to Walmart and purchased 2 glasses repair kits! Art is amazing! You will not regret staying here. read more

I was looking for a place for a weekend getaway when I planned an all-day hiking excursion nearby. Inn at the Shenandoah was beautiful, and the perfect place to relax. Everything was charming, beautiful and historic, and the whirlpool bath was just right after a rough day on the trails. My husband surprised me for my birthday with a splendid stay at this Inn. It was charming, quaint, and cozy. We spent 4 wonderful days in what I call the purple room. We were greeted with a lovely hot tub, flowers, a bottle of wine in luxurious surroundings. We appreciated the privacy the B &B offered us. Our host, Arthur, was exceptionally kind and cordial, supplying us with wonderful tales of the house and area. The breakfasts were amazing -- warm muffins, pastries, quiches from the chef across the street, fresh fruit, yogurt, and delicious coffee. Recently stayed here for a wekeend trip riding my motorcycle along Skyline Drive and the surrounding country side. The location was ideal! In the heart of Luray, it's walking distance to local eateries. The accomodations were fantastic. The room was clean and had fantastic views out of every window. The outside balcony was a huge plus! And the host took amazing care of us so that we wanted for nothing the entire stay. I highly recommend staying here if you're taveling to the area. I'd definitely stay here again. read more

This is a very good inn. My wife and I went here for our anniversary and were very pleased to be treated as personal guests. Our room was comfortable and cozy with an easy-access outside door, a small TV room, and a bathroom with a Jacuzzi. A homemade breakfast was served every morning with seconds and thirds as requested; the blood orange French toast was to die for! There was plenty of parking available and the inn is located right next door to a very chic restaurant. I happily recommend for any occasion! read more

Very nice accommodations. We stayed in the stained glass suite, in the main house. The main house has 3 suites, and the cottage in the back has more. Stained glass has a nice sized bathroom, a small seating area with tv, and access to the outside patio - complete with table & chairs. We thought the bed was comfy & the house was nice & quiet. Ashley & Megan were very gracious hostesses, offering homemade brownies & tea upon arrival. They also offered an upgrade to the king suite, but we declined because I thought the stained glass room was prettier. Breakfast was nice -we started with fruit and blueberry muffin, followed by eggs, toast and sausage. We would stay again if we return to the area. read more

AMAZING!!! We came for a getaway and didn't want to leave. The accommodations are very impressive. We stayed in the Orchid Suite and WOW! The bathroom is larger than most people's bedroom! The jacuzzi tub was well used after a long day of hiking. The bed was so comfortable and inviting. We were able to use our private balcony to see the Blue Moon, which was awesome! Ann the Innkeeper was most friendly. She was knowledgeable about the area and gave great recommendations for things to do while we were there. Breakfast was OUTSTANDING! My friend and I wanted to take a overnight drive to Luray. We have gone many years with a larger group for hiking and have always stayed at a hotel. This time we wanted to stay in town so we could walk the town. It was just overnight and even those this place is more for couples, we loved it. We got the king size bedroom which was fine since it was just for one night. We walked to the shops and the movies. The room was very nice and extremely clean. We reserved the Autumn Suite for our weekend in Luray; when we checked in we were greeted by the manager, Ann Merrigan. She was very friendly and pleasant and gave us a tour of the house. The first floor is comprised of sitting rooms and dining rooms, and the guest rooms and her office are on the second floor. While she was acclimating us, she mentioned in a very offhand way that there is a ghost and "not to worry; she hangs out around the bottom of the stairs, and is sometimes seen there around 6 in the morning." I do think that if you have a resident ghost, you might want to mention it on your website so peopel can be aware before they reserve rooms, but we didn't see or hear anything strange, and teased each other all weekend saying "It's the ghost!" I hadn't realized that the jacuzzi tub would be right in the bedroom part of the suite; when you walk in, there's a huge four-poster king-sized bed and an equally large tub, which seems a little odd initially, though it worked out great. We did use the tub after we got back from our long hike in the snow at Mary's Rock, and it was just the thing for tired muscles. There is an outer deck or boardwalk with stairs down to the ground that gives each room private access from outside the house. The Autmun suite is the last one on the boardwalk, so we felt it was very private. Each suite, including ours, has a little table with two chairs in a corresponding nook on their part of the boardwalk. It was too cold for us to use ours, but would be great outside of winter. Our bathroom was clean and simple. I neglected to bring a hair dryer, and I didn't see one readily at hand, but they may have had one available if I had asked. Shower had good pressure and seemed to have plenty of hot water. Our suite also has a little turret sitting room attached - it looks out the front of the house, onto the street. It is fitted with a small (very very cushy) loveseat, an electric "fireplace" heater, and a TV, as well as a mini-fridge which was stocked with a few snacks, waters, sodas, and the bottle of wine we were given upon our arrival. The bed was comfortable but had a squeak in it that was a bit annoying. Also, on our last morning there, the local air raid siren went off for about 5 minutes around 7:30AM for no apparent reason; the Inn is a few doors away from the fire station, so we also heard many vehicle sirens while we were there. Breakfast was really terrific. The chef is Larry Merrigan, and I thanked him profusely for going out of his way to satisfy our requests. I am currently vegan, and on short notice, he crafted me 2 days of breakfasts that were attractive, creative, and tasty. Day one, he made me a vegan waffle with strawberry topping (in addition to the excellent fresh fruit plate that is the standard breakfast appetizer for all guests), and on Day two, he made a really lovely quinoa breakfast bowl with almond milk, BEAUTIFUL and delicious blackberries, strawberries and walnuts. He also insisted on serving me a little of the sauteed asparagus and peppered cherry tomatoes that he had made for the guests eating the eggs benedict, and I can attest that they were delightful as well. I advise anyone with special dietary needs to let Ann or Larry know as soon as possible upon booking, and then to expect to be catered to with utmost care and competence. Clearly, we really enjoyed our stay, and I definitely think I picked the best spot in Luray for a relaxed and comfortable weekend. read more

This place is amazing. My girlfriend and I accidentally booked the wrong night, but when we showed up the owners had no problem accommodating us. The Inn is very clean and well kept. Upon check in you are given a handmade pamphlet on things to do in the area (there's a lot), food, museums, caverns and zoos just to name a few. Matt even helped us plan out our next day since we had never been to the area before. Very nice place, excellent people, and excellent hospitality. Definitely will be coming back. My husband and I stayed here for our babymoon and had such a great stay. The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was huge and the private sitting room had a tv and very comfortable chairs. The inn keeper made us feel right at home and offered great recommendations for things to do in the area. The breakfasts were amazing!! My husband is gluten free and they were able to easily accommodate his needs and provided him with delicious gluten free alternatives. We also enjoyed sitting on the back deck and front porch as the sun set each night. The location of the inn is perfect walking distance to area restaurants and shops. My wife and I spent a night at the Inn as I was running a 1/2 marathon the following morning. We asked if my wife could make a breakfast plate for me for when I returned from the race we were told no as they make everything fresh there at the Inn. We didn't think this small accommodation was a big request for a Bed & BREAKFAST, especially since, with tax, it was about $200 for the one night. What a hidden gem right on Main Street! We came for the weekend to get away from the hustle bustle of the DC and found the Inn at Shenandoah simply fabulous. Fantastic victorian with porches, decor, ambiance and charming hospitality. Our suite was furnished with antiques and modern conveniences and a fabulous jacuzzi tub. The innkeeper is wonderful, with a southern charm all her own. The breakfasts were top notch. The chef, formerly from the Ritz Carleton in DC, prepared outstanding dishes--needless to say the best food in Luray by far. The small touches--wine in the room, gorgeous antiques in the period of the home, gardens and porches, and the professional staff assure your stay is not only comfortable but memorable and friendly. Can't imagine how I neglected to post this review! Historically, a B&B was always last on my list because co-habitating with a bunch of strangers isn't on my top 10 list of fun things to do but Ann and the Inn at the Shenandoah changed my mind. I booked lovely B&B as a last minute getaway from my hectic life and stressful career. The drive down from Philly was beautiful and I quickly got settled in after a tour by the innkeeper Ann Merrigan who had a complimentary bottle of wine waiting! The Autumn suite was perfect for me; private access/egress keeping me from having to wander through the house, a huge bathroom and a separate in-suite hot tub to relax in after my long drive. There was a squeak in the bed or floor of this room but that's to be expected with a historic property such as this. The bed was otherwise comfortable and I was able to pass out every night without a care in the world. As others have reported in their reviews, there are a few challenges that this location has -- being on Main Street, there is traffic and the Inn is around the corner from the fire house (and their siren is loud!) and there is a railroad that traverses through town a short distance away (bells and horns as required by federal law on crossings.) ***This is not the Inn's fault!!!*** Ann was open and honest about their presence in order to give me fair warning. There was a funny incident involving the painters working on the house that kept Ann and I laughing throughout my stay. Breakfasts were fresh and exquisite, made with love and concern for the guests' needs. The porch was one of my favorite parts of the trip. I was able to sit comfortably and relax, read a book, listen to music, sip a cocktail and smoke a cigar, and even share cool stories and adventures not only with Ann but some of the area locals who stopped by for a visit. Ann's southern charm, grace and hospitality makes this venue absolutely worth the trip. The area is quaint with a ton of great things to do and the views and landscape are just stunning. I lucked out and caught a fair that was in town. The Shenandoah National Park is a short drive away for hiking, as are a number of other wonderful vineyards, touristy destinations (Singing Tower, Luray Cavern) and even a craft distillery (Copper Fox) and Cooter's Place (Dukes of Hazzard!) in nearby Sperryville. Don't hesitate to ask Ann and her son Larry for recommendations, as they are experts on so much of the area. My only issue is finding time to get back to Luray for another visit!!!!! read more

We stayed at the Inn because of the wonderful reviews, but we did not have the great experience that we were hoping for. Yes Ann is wonderful and her breakfast was very nice, but the location of the inn is not up to par. It is on main street and that is nice to where you are close to the local shops, but my word..... between the train and the fire whistle I am not sure which is worse. The Inn is three houses up from the fire station which makes it a point to test the whistle once a day at Noon and sounds the alarm when ever there is a fire or car accident. MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT the alarm went off three different times. IT IS LOUD! If that isn't enough noise well you do have the train that comes thru town. The rail road crossing is right by the fire station, so in the middle of the night you get the train blowing their whistle. We went for a nice relaxing get a way so that we could get some rest, but with all of the noise, well we did not get any sleep. The complementary bottle of wine was nice but you need more than one bottle to be able to sleep though all of the noise. Sorry but the truth is the truth. If the Inn was located in a different location it would be great. Like I said... Ann is very nice and the breakfast is great. Rooms are roomy and clean. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Orchid Suite for a couple nights, and had a great time. Ann asked what type of wine we liked, and had a bottle waiting for us in the room! The suite was very large and comfortable, and the jacuzzi was amazing. We had a lot of privacy because the suite has its own entrance, with stairs leading up to the deck. At breakfast (which was delicious), we mentioned we were going for a hike. Larry surprised us by giving us each a lunch bag with a bottle of water, an orange, and the best oatmeal cookie I've ever had. He was kind enough to give me the recipe :) read more

Ann, the innkeeper, has been so wonderful and accommodating - we had to arrive very late yesterday evening and she waited up for us, greeted us warmly, and showed us around the entire home. Stayed in their "Riverside Cottages," which are neither riverside nor cottages, on November 22-25, 2017. This old house split into two shabby efficiency apartments is not a bed and breakfast experience. The house is across the street PLUS across a parking lot from a waterway that is technically a river, but more like a stream or creek, so this is definitely NOT a scenic, picturesque waterfront or waterside property. Noise nuisances here include trains, a fire hall siren, cars and drunken people yelling on the street at night. These two worn efficiency apartments are not cottages by any stretch of the imagination, nor are they befitting of an inn or a bed and breakfast. Think more like Days Inn-type accommodations, if that, at Mimslyn Inn luxury prices; all furnishings and contents are clearly castoffs, thrifted or Walmart. Oh, and breakfast is not included if you stay in this plain, ordinary, somewhat dilapidated house, so why this property is even affiliated with a bed and breakfast business is beyond me. Although the unit I stayed in was clean for the most part--some shower area mildew and dirty windows being an exception--it was NOT cute, special, pretty, cozy, luxurious or cottage-like in any way. It was a depressing, outdated, bare bones, no frills space that might work as a temporary charity housing unit for a disadvantaged family, but otherwise is not befitting of words like "hotel," "inn," or "cottage." Also, there are multiple trip and fall hazards on this property. I cannot describe to you how major of a disappointment this experience was, and over Thanksgiving weekend, too. read more

My husband and I stayed here for two nights. It was the perfect place after spending a day in hectic DC. Ann is a lovely innkeeper. She contacted us before to ask about any dietary restrictions we might have. This told me that they are very tuned to guest needs. Breakfast was delicious. The most airy waffles you can imagine with your choice of fresh fruit topping and bacon on the side. Also a delicious omelet with spinach, mushrooms and goat cheese and delicious mini jalapeños biscuits. Fresh coffee, orange juice, tea and plate of fruit was included both mornings. Ann's son is a culinary school graduated chef so you can imagine how delicious it all was. It was also a delight to interact with Ann and her son. They had wonderful stories to tell about the area, and as experienced inn-keepers they had lots of interesting stories to share. The B&B is very clean and tidy. Not to mention it is a lovely old home with charm. We loved it and hope to be back in the area and will definitely stay there. read more
