My husband and I wanted a weekend away. We chose Inn By the River and we were not disappointed. We didn't realize we chose "Last blast weekend". So everything was busy - but we never felt rushed or felt our needs were unmet. The rooms were clean, which is a MUST, for me. The bathroom had a jacuzzi tub, an enclosed porch, air conditioning, and a comfortable bed. The food at the restaurant was not only a good value but was not churned out like an assembly line chain restaurant. The menu was small intentionally. The portions were huge. The food was served hot, and flavorful. Breakfast offered REAL, maple syrup- not the maple flavored corn syrup you get everywhere else. The staff was amazing. They were friendly, accommodating and always ready to meet any needs we had. Stephanie went above and beyond when the restaurant was especially busy on Sunday morning making sure we had what we needed and chatting with us while we waited. We will definitely be back. And I would recommend the Inn By the River to anyone. read more

We went on a kayaking trip down the river at 3mph. 7 mile trip took 2 hours. It was so relaxing and cool!! It was a great experience. Loved it. The staff was excellent!! Then we ate at the restaurant after and the food was AMAZING!!! The outdoor atmosphere was beautiful looking at the river, the flowers and all the hummingbirds feeding and playing around with each other. I didn't know they were so vocal. This place has incredible food, service and scenery! They have a full bar that can be served inside or outside in front of a fire. They have picnic tables that face the Kennebac River. The service is efficient and timely. They also sister up with Three Rivers Rafting. My boyfriend and I shared a large house salad to start. It was fresh with cucumbers, tomatoes, radishes and onions. The dressing was delicious. I got the sirloin filet that came with mashed potatoes and crisp green beans. It was cooked perfectly! My boyfriend had the sirloin tips with teriyaki sauce, mashed potatoes and broccoli. He also added garlic bread...delicious. The drinks were flowing.....the fire was perfect. I only tried this place due to a grilling mishap when cooking dinner at our cabin at 8:40 at night. I called the lodge to explain what happened and was told the only place open was the Inn By the River but they close at 9 and we would have to be quick. Place was 12 miles away we raced there to make it in time hoping they had some cold sandwiches or something we could grab. Arrived at 8:56 and we asked the waitress if there was anything quick we could get, as we didn't want to be those customers. We talked to her about our unfortunate experience which brought us to the Inn that night, and she said we could get anything on the menu and to not even worry about anything. She went back and told the Chef (only one working that night) and he let out a loud "Are you kidding me? I just finished cleaning!". Which I completely understand, having worked in the business before I knew we were one of the worst types of customers. Waitress then talked to him as we looked over the menu, and they both came out to talk to us at 9:05. We apologized and said we didn't want to ruin there night and were just going to go back empty handed. He was informed of what happened and swore he didn't mind and to pick anything on the menu and it was no problem at all to help us out. We again said it was too late and he insisted we ordered so we did. While he was cooking we talked to the waitress as she was cleaning up the bar area, and she was super nice and helpful and told us all sorts of cool places to explore while we were in the area. At 9:45 the chef came out with all the food, and even added in extras we didn't order! They had ran out of boxes too so the chef put some food in a food storage container and trusted us to bring it back the following day. We thanked them both for helping us out and then we left with our food to go back to our lodge. Got back to our lodge and could finally feed the family who were all starving, and everyone loved their food. It was all still hot and really flavorful. The following day we dropped off the storage container and the bar was empty, but we did see the same waitress outside and thanked her again. This place went way above and beyond to help us out and I'm so thankful to the crew there that night! Our trip is over now, but there was so much stuff to do up in this area that we didn't get to see and do and will be back to do them in the future. Because of our first experience we will for sure be back to this restaurant each time we come through from now on! TL;DR - Our own food got ruined, this place was open and we arrived 5 minutes to closing, chef and waitress insisted we eat and they both worked an extra hour after closing to help out strangers. read more

Seriously, lunch cost $47.52 for me and my husband. This is what we had a cup of soup-chowder $10.00, this is a CUP. A burger and substituted fries for beets $16.00. A haddock sandwich with Mac and cheese $18.00. With tax not including tip the total one again $47.52. We didn't have a choice to go here we were with a local who chose it. Stumbled on this place on our way back from checking out some rafting options on the Kennebec. 'Saw the inn and those Adirondak chairs up on the hill facing the river, and turned the car around to investigate. We got a nice, clean room. Got a great plate of vegetarian nachos, and then got a glass of white wine, read my book, and watched the sun setting over the river (in those chairs!). Dinner menu has lots of choices and breakfast was good. Hummingbirds abound. Food was fine. Great stay. (Some knuckleheads were noisy out by the fire pit at 5am, but... the other guests were quiet, so maybe it was just bad timing.) read more

We wanted some kickass breakfast before we left Maine after our rafting trip on Sunday and Inn by the River delivered us KICKASS breakfast with some Southern (or would it be considered Northern) hospitality. Inn by the River is also owned by the same owners of Three Rivers, which is just about a mile north of the "Home of Serious Fun". This place should be nicknamed the "Home of Serious Breakfast'. The Inn is pleasantly located at the top of the road tucked behind the highway, but overlooks the river beautifully. You can spot the Inn while on the Kennebec and start to crave breakfast. We were welcomed into the Inn with open arms and joyful staff members of Three Rivers/Inn by the River even before we reached the door! They were able to accommodate not only our party of 5, but were able to join our tables after seeing some familiar faces as we approached the dining room. Serving us up right with carafes of coffee, water, and orange juice. Ordering up our eggs, bacon(!!!), toasts, homefries, etc. Mmmmm.... I didn't see a Greek omlette on the menu, but they had no problems making one for me and delicious it was! I cleaned my plate right up! Nothing was left behind. Price is great too! After we devoured our meals, the staff offered to let us roam around the Inn and explore. I'm glad I took the opportunity to check out the rooms before I left. It was the cutest lil Inn you can imagine. Some rooms had double beds, while others had Queen and full size beds. Shared bathrooms and a lil kitchenette in the hallway. This would be a great place to do a group trip, with the comfort of the Inn, the amazing breakfast, the fantastic staff, who wouldn't want to come back? And with the river right there by your side?! This doesn't get any better than having a comfortable stay and a wild day on the river. P.S. You know this place is the place to be if the river guides are eating breakfast here! A great get away and a must stay! Arrived here and the Inn sets high on the side of a mountain overlooking the river. When we arrived we were were warmly greeted by Jamie. She had our names down quickly and greeted by our names every time she saw us. We sat out on the porch listening to the river rushing by and the chatter of the numerous humming birds fluttering about the feeders hanging on the porch. Dinner was delicious although the dining room was a tad bit warm for me. Breakfast for me was wonderful because I was able to have a smoothie with almond milk and fresh fruit. I was in heaven. I hate a high carb breakfast although they did have that in the menu. The bed was the kind of bed you can just melt in. As you can tell we really loved the Inn. We had booked it because it was in our way from New Hampshire to Bar Harbor. We are planing on going back! read more

We rented one of the cabins, Cabin #5. The only thing that was good was the view. It is the beginning of their season and they were less than prepared for guests. The hot water was completely sour, which rendered it useless, and we were unable to shower or wash dishes. The propane was not turned on and they sent one of their river guides to trouble shoot. After the gas was turned on, it was leaking profusely from the stove (which is deadly). We had to turn it off when we weren't cooking. There were a LOT of bugs in the light fixture (which is a low hanging fixture due to the ceiling levels. The refrigerator didn't have a door handle, the window AC unit had a significant gap which invites MANY mosquitoes in during the evening hours when the lights were on, and there is a glass pan lid that has a broken knob for handling (which cut my finger). The only concessions they could offer was a 50% discount on our NEXT stay. I will NEVER return to their Inn or Cabins. read more

After a weekend of camping and white water rafting, my group and I decided to venture down the road to the Inn by the River for some brunch. Our raft guide told us they had amazing food, and he was not lying. What he failed to mention, was the amazing view that is also seen from the Inn by the River! We had a group of 5 people, and then bumped into 4 other rafters and decided to join together at a large dining room table. The staff was very accommodating to our group size, and needs. They were very attentive with the water, coffee, and orange juice pitchers... glasses... basically anything that we needed. Our view couldn't have been any better, also. Directly outside was the porch with a few humming bird feeders so you could see these amazing birds fluttering about, with a background of the river, trees, and hills/mountains. The food? Delish! I think just about everyone ate everything on their plate, and those that didn't only stopped because they were stuffed! Prices were also VERY reasonable. 5 people, 5 full bellies, 5 entrees and 5 drinks was under $50 prior to tip... you can't beat that. We were also given permission to walk around and check out the rooms... so cute! This would be a great spot to come and bring your family, an adventure with a significant other, or a group of friends. All of the rooms had their own style and various bed sizes, and some even had a small private balcony. Very cute spot, I'm excited to get to go back either for just the food, or for the sleeping arrangements too. read more

When you are in a tiny town in remote Maine and you go to one of three restaurants within reasonable driving distance, you probably don't expect it to be one of the best meals of your life. Think again. The Maine seafood cakes (made with crab, scallops, shrimp) were fresh and delicious. You could actually taste seafood, not just cooking oil and bread crumbs. Everyone in our group of 6 was happy with their entrees. The real standout was the shrimp alfredo. The sauce was neither watery nor gloopy--just the perfect texture, rich but not too thick, over al dente pasta served piping hot. I really think this may have been the best alfredo sauce I've ever had. This place has an incredible view of the river with some Adirondack chairs for you to sit and veg out after your brunch or before your dinner. Not a bad wine list either. It was pretty empty when we were here (a Monday night) so people from our group were messing around on the piano and the guitar while we waited for our food--a little fun extra bonus, and our server was very patient when we a) were annoyingly indecisive and b) continued our singalong when he was trying to ask us questions. read more

(Owner: this young lady is gold)...and the whole crew are just nice, nice, nice people. For a town with a population of...30, they do an excellent job looking after guests. The food is a highlight. Although breakfast in my opinion is their weak spot, its nothing bad at all. Lunch & dinner are just incredible for a town this size. Who needs to eat anywhere else?! A vegetable garden just outside the kitchen helps with all the fresh flavors. The salads are perfect and the entrees just spot on. An incredible location overlooking the river - just beautiful. For such a remote corner of Maine, one might think the only food options are crappy wings, greasy food and limited options. WRONG! Stop at Inn by the River for some delicious food with a beautiful view of the Kennebec. The great thing about so many of the establishments in the Forks is that they serve multiple purposes and are connected to multiple businesses. These are the same owners as Three Rivers- if you want to enjoy a day of white water but have a more peaceful, full service experience then camping or staying in a cabin, this is the place to stay. Grab some inflatable tubes and float down the river from the Inn to Three Rivers headquarters for a relaxing afternoon cool down. I ate breakfast, lunch and dinner here and I would say the breakfast is the best, my lunch was good (the mac and cheese is not to be missed), and dinner was decent. I had a burger that was supposed to be medium rare and instead was VERY rare, borderline raw. But again out of the 5 meals I've eaten there that was my one negative experience. The owners are right on site and super friendly. Great place to unplug and escape civilization for a bit! read more

My husband and I stayed here for a get away without kids for a couple days. We got there late and Samantha stayed late to greet us. The rooms are nice and the beds are very comfortable. We woke early and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food prepared. We went rafting for the day and returned to a clean room. We enjoyed a spectacular dinner that evening. I would leave this place a two to three star review because of the service. It looked nice from the outside and on the inside, the have three seating areas and a bar. Immediately when you get into the building the great you and tell you witch of there three small seating areas is the best to sit in at the moment .When you sit down about two minutes later they will ask you what you want to drink and the get you your drink in a reasonable amount of time. About seven minutes later they will ask you what you want to eat. Then an hour after you order your food they will get your food to you with your order wrong. Other that your food being their late it is a nice place, the staff is nice and the place is clean. read more

There was six adults in our party and we all agreed this was one of the freshest most delicious breakfast meals we have had in a long time. This is our go-to place to stay when visiting Three Rivers Whitewater (for some serious fun) to whitewater raft, kayak, hike Moxie Falls, or fish. The innkeepers are warm and friendly, the rooms are spacious and have incredible views of the Kennebec River. The bubble tubs are especially comfortable after a day on the river. The food is excellent and they source locally grown food as much as possible, including fresh vegetables from their gardens. The bar area is cozy and the bartenders make anything you want; it's stocked with top shelf liquor as well as a varied selection of local and micro brews and fine wines. If you want a party for New Years, they host an annual New Years Eve party. If you're lucky, you'll spot bald eagles, white-tailed deer, and moose here. We have seen them all on our trips. Considering the price of the room and all you get for it, this is awesome. We're not into camping, but wanted to White Water raft, and this place was great to stay at. The bed was comfy and big, the room overlooked the Kennebec River and even had a little porch to go out on. Everything was clean. Free continental breakfast was good, But the most important thing was the service - people working there were super friendly and super attentive. They do have dinner there which we didn't try, but the bar after was fun, and they had draft beer which is a plus and an old school sit down pac man game which brought back memories. This isn't the Ritz obviously, but for what you pay and where you are, it can't be beat read more

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights when we went whitewater rafting with Three Rivers Whitewater and it was great. The staff were all very friendly (especially Kat who we saw every day), room was clean, and the food was good. The only thing that I didn't love was the private porch off of our room was very small, only had one chair, and didn't feel like much of a porch. I feel like it would have been better utilized as a closet since there wasn't one in the room. There is a beautiful, big porch downstairs and lots of outdoor seating, so it didn't take away from our stay. We will definitely stay here again! Thank you! read more

This Hotel was Great! Very clean and all the Staff was very helpful. We had a room on the River side, which was great to watch the Ducks, Geese and Squirrels. They have a feeding machine like the petting zoo have. For 25cents you can buy feed to feed the Ducks and Geese. The pool was the perfect temperature for me. Love this Hotel!
