Finding a lunch spot as we traveled from Quebec City back to mid-coast Maine on a weekday in February was not easy. Many restaurants are closed at this time but luckily The Hawks Nest Lodge was open the day we were passing through. We were the only patrons at lunch. Welcomed by several friendly staff and we decided to sit at the bar for lunch. A beautiful pine bar with rustic pine bar seats. The ambiance was very good and very welcoming. Really personable bartender talked with us about the area. Loved the menu of some classics and a lamb burger! Had to get the lamb and glad I did. Delicious. Made with lamb and feta cheese it was served in a burger bun. We upgraded to the French fries, glad we did as they were hot and had a perfect crisp. Really easy parking and good, clean restrooms. We stopped here for lunch. I had the cold Italian Sub while my wife had chicken wings. We shared a basket of onion rings. The rings were very good. I really enjoyed my Italian sub but we probably should have shared it. It was well portioned. My wife said the wings were just okay it she's pretty picky. There seemed to be one young lady doing everything in the restaurant. She was pretty awesome. We'd stop by again if we were ever passing through. read more

First- this is a gorgeous place and setting. If you can go at a time when you can sit outside, do it! The service was friendly and attentive although the overall process had a slow pace to it. My husband got the Spring pea salad- it was delicious! Everything tasted fresh and crisp. I got the apple, Brie, and turkey sandwich with salad as the side. The sandwich was delicious, it had lots of turkey. I would add more apple for better balance but it was still good as it was. If we are in the area I would definitely stop in again! read more

Another great Yelp find while traveling to Canada via US 201. We stopped for lunch at this quint lodge restaurant across from a river on US 201. Seated outside by ou request. Our waiter Mike was very gracious & patient. My husband & cousin's husband had the burgers & fries while my cousin & I had the chicken salad. Delicious, fresh & plentiful. A must stop. read more

My daughter is hiking the Appalachian Trail and I'm staying in a motel close to this restaurant. We met friends there briefly from our hometown in Maryland who were visiting owner relatives. We had occasion to visit it today for lunch and were so impressed that we returned for dinner. My daughter returns to the trail tomorrow, but I will return to this restaurant for one or two more meals this weekend. The menu has an excellent assortment of appetizers and entrée items and pizza that are creative and very generous. The onion soup is as good as I have had an any restaurant in any city. The grilled chicken wings are superb. The beefsteak sandwich was generous and tasty and the brussel sprouts appetizer nicely presented and creative. The selection of beer is outstanding. This is a gem of a restaurant. I wish I had known about this place and its lodging before I made a reservation in the nearby motel. I believe this would be a charming place to spend some time. This place was awesome. Log-cabin rustic style. They even had their own culinary gardens out front. Super friendly staff and great service. We had a tasty veggie burger on brioche bun and fries, and a turkey sandwich, plus beer and cider. To cap it off we had some of their amazing bakery goods - oatmeal moon-pie and an oatmeal raspberry bar. We sat outside on their elevated patio with an umbrella, and a view of the river. The Hawks Nest was a welcoming sight driving south from Quebec. We were greeted by bright red flowers & several butterflies as we approached the entry stairs. At first, we wanted to sit outside on the deck with the perfect view of the river but when we saw the wooden-carved interior, we chose to sit inside & admire the artistry. The food was great. I loved my Chicken Bomb Quesadilla & my son enjoyed the Hawk's Nest Burger. My 2 younger kids had kids meals which were reasonable. We enjoyed our impeccable service by Alex & meeting the K9 mascots! Every staff member I chatted with were so kind, great experience. Due to time I wasn't able to eat at the restaurant but saw lots of happy folks with delicious food! Their Thai inspired pizza was so good that we ordered one more, so that's a 5 star choice. Their Thai dishes were good and i will rate them 3.5. Came here in the morning for a iced coffee and a little treat and had a lovely time. Barista Sierra was super kind and personable, not to mention made a delicious latte with real caramel! there's a variety of breakfast pastries and cakes to try as well that all look amazing. there's plenty of seating right on the river and cozy inside as well! read more

It would appear to us that this place is under new management. We came here last August and had a great meal and the menu had a lot of choices. Our visit today was completely underwhelming. The meatloaf was bland. The chicken pot pie was bland. The meat pizza was horrible and greasy. We had two drinks, and I don't feel there was any alcohol in them. A great typical Maine bar and grill in a modern setting. The establishment and ambiance is fantastic, modern, and CLEAN! The inside is exactly what you expect in Maine! The service was outstanding, and the staff is super nice! The food was great and the draft beers are local. The burger are amazing, but the 20" thin crust pizza will satisfy the most curious pizza critic. The front of this place overlooks the river and is also dog friendly. Since they changed owners, it has gone from rustic cool, with a great menu, to high end chef created foods, That are way to EXPENSIVE !! Let's first start by saying that there really isnt a lot of places up in the West Forks to dine, but this is one place, you do not want to miss. The food is excellent, the staff are personable, and friendly, and the hand carved wood work is just breath taking. The prices are a little high, but you need to consider what it takes to get the supplies out this far. The pizza is excellent here. We are in the area quite often and always stop in for something to eat and a drink. Drink selection is small but there is something for everyone. One thing that is a must try... the deep fried ice cream! So good! read more

Logan and I stopped in before rafting for breakfast. It opened at 7am that morning, when we got there, only one other party was there and told us we would be told to sit wherever. After a few minutes of waiting, we picked a seat by the window. We had a view into the kitchen and realized that on this particular morning only one woman was running the entire place. Serving and cooking breakfast. So we got menus, not huge or super elaborate, but a good selection. I got an avocado benny and logan got a western omelet and we shared a pancake. The omelet was superb and I was sad I didn't get one too. Nice, thick and fluffy with big chunks of the goods. Mine was also good, perfectly cooked home fries came with both! Pancake was okay, but when you're cooking all of it, we figured we weren't going to fault them on that. The waitress was nice and polite. The coffee was huge. It was a great surprise in a town so small. Also just a note on how gorgeous the building was. We were blown away inside. read more

Absolutely wonderful breakfast/dinner place. A since restaurants that even look clean are hard to find in this area, we went back for dinner. We were thoroughly impressed by the design and cleanliness of the cabin. The entire place is wood and this adds to the perfection! The server was fabulous for breakfast and the view is amazing! i was surprised that there weren't more people for breakfast and dinner as this place was spotless, roomy and you really cant get past the view of the river. You can dine outside as inside by a fireplace or not. It was just a great place to eat. Pancakes were buttermilk and fabulous! This place has gone downhill since being sold. We used to love to ATV and Snowmobile here, and would drive here for lunch too. We went by today for lunch and it was awful. First off trying to seat two adults and a toddler at a high top table is not really a great idea. So outdoor seating goes out the window and we go inside only to hear "we're trying not to seat people in the dining room right now." Umm ok?? So we sit at a high top inside. 90 minutes later we finally get our food, one sandwich and the fries are cold because it sat on the counter just inside the kitchen door for 30 minutes (we could see it). The other was supposed to be a sandwich but it takes another 15 minutes because they made 2 pizzas incorrectly ahead of it. We didn't even order pizza. So our toddler has been extremely patient waiting for her lunch for 90 minutes only to have it arrive and be disgusting and cold. They obviously didn't make that panini right after remembering we didn't order pizza or the panini would have been hot. Needless to say we won't be back. I can understand slower service when understaffed and the restaurant is busy (again we used to atv and snowmobile here were used to that). But I can't understand not bringing utensils or napkins. read more

After a long drive, we needed lunch. And any place would do! But we happened upon the restaurant at the Hawk's Nest Lodge and had a fantastic meal! The Dead River Burger with an upgrade to onion rings was one of the best burgers (and onion rings) I've eaten in a very long time. The burger was big and juicy, the fried onions and bacon with the perfect sauce topped it off nicely. And the bun wasn't your run-of-the-meal white bread buns. It was a hearty bread with a nice crust. In addition, I was told the tuna melt was wonderful, as were the fries! Our server was very personable and the dog of the house was a sweetheart. We stopped here for lunch on our way to Moosehead Lake. Great place to eat lunch and enjoy the weather as we had an outside table overlooking the river and highway. Good food and service and was a fun place to stop. Visited here in July 2018. We even saw a moose on the road on the way there! read more

A homey, comfortable, warm place to stay. Completely redone in 2008? - it's like a huge log cabin. There are four suites/rooms upstairs with dining room and bar downstairs. There are exceptional wood carvings located throughout the downstairs. The Dead river is across the street and 4 of the rooms have this lovely water view. The food is good, filling and served by friendly, attentive people. Thank-you for making my daughter and my stay a lovely experience. We will be back. read more

Lovely stay! This included a good dinner on the front deck, and a river across Old Canada Rode, which I am told is unfortunately named Dead River. It's not dead: it's actually quite lovely. I will note that while our room was very comfortable, I found a human animal trap underneath our bed when I was looking for an outlet to charge my phone. I'm no stranger to wildlife and the associated realities, but admittedly this was the first time I noticed an animal trap directly below the mattress and bed frame of a hotel room. #wildlifereality #yougonnabeokay #justanfyi No fireplace in the room, so dunno exactly how something that had to be of rat or squirrel size could access the room, but at least the trap was humane and suggested that they didn't mind exchanging large rodents (?) with neighboring areas at least one mile away. Last note: enjoy an unencumbered view of the night stars and satellites on the front porch post sunset, but do know you are on live security stream. Yay for security! They are completely cool. Please do *not* mind the humane animal trap if able, and sleep deeply. Breakfast is not continental/complementary since the restaurant is part of the Lodge. Despite the 'tongue in cheek' tone this review may have, I highly recommend you see the positives and associated humor. The staff was great, the sleep was deep and uninterrupted and the sky was clear. Stay here! read more

First time in a cabin atmosphere and we absolutely loved it. Very spacious comfortable place and lovely décor. We did have to use the vacuum provided in the room to clean a few insects. But that's expected. Food was ok not too much to add there. The bar area is really nice. Excellent bar and welcoming people. We really enjoyed our one night stay. read more

Only drawback was sleeping with the windows open to hear the sounds of the river flowing was the trucks and cars every 30 mins after midnight just as you are falling back to sleep there goes another one. Service was incredibly slow with less than half of the seating filled. We waited 1hr before we received just coffee. Simple orders were messed up, such as pepper jack cheese became peppers in an omelette, cheddar cheese became American. One order which came with toast did not have toast brought out with it because "I don't bring out toast unless you ask for it" asked for multiple condiments repeatedly which do not make it to the table. To be one of only spots in this area, and fail so easily on service is really a shame. We won't be coming back. read more
