About Face has the privilege over many of the salons due to the length of time they have been around for. I can remember them being here for the last 10 years at least, and nearly everyone (female!) I know has had at least one treatment with them. They offer a wide range of treatments such as facials, makeup lessons, manicure, pedicure, overlays, extensions, weight loss treatments, kids parties, bridal makeup and makeup lessons, gift vouchers, spray tanning, the list goes on! A nice touch also, is that they remember all of their clients at Christmas time by sending out a card. I like About Face a lot, and it would still be the salon I would consider first, out of the many salons now open in town.

They have a spray tan system called Versa Spa which only costs £20 for a full body tan, and even better, its automated, so you don't actually have to have a therapist doing it (perfect if you are feeling less than 100% confident!) - This also has settings for just face or just legs tanning too - but I got the full body tan and it worked out great. Party packages are on offer for children, teenagers, and hen parties. They also do fab Dermalogica facial treatments, anti wrinkle injections, and semi permanent eyelashes along with the usual waxing, makeup, nails, etc.

Aura is one of the most luxe spas I have been to and I loved every minute of it. I had booked a Luxury Spa Pedicure which turned out to be 45 minutes and £40 pounds worth of heaven on earth. Even though I was there for a relatively short treatment (you can spend the whole day there, what bliss), I was shown to the very swish changing room and invited to put on one of those thick perfectly white bath robes that people embarrass themselves by stealing from five star hotels. I was then shown to the pedicure chair which was attached to a footbath which had, I kid you not, flowers floating in it. I then spent 10 minutes with my feet in delish smelling hot water, flicking through celeb mags and generally congratulating myself on my good fortune. Next my feet were anointed with some very expensive lotion and then my nails were filed and polished to perfection. I had somewhere else to be afterwards but had I had time I could have spent as long a s I wanted in the lounge area sipping tea or fruit juice and reading more glossies. Aura is not a cheap place to while away the hours but boy is it worth it. They do gift vouchers so start perfecting the art of dropping hints!

It is set in the countryside but only a 10 min drive outside of Carrickfergus. I could have stayed there all day. Loved it and will definitely be back. It uses the 3 best lasers at the same time in one treatment, and It's painless as it ices the skin too. I felt no discomfort whatsoever, it was actually relaxing. After my first treatment the hair fell out within a week, the man 5 weeks later I only had sparse hairs growing from my next hair cycle and had to postpone my next treatment till new hairs grew!! Carrickfergus now has two branches of this little shop, World of Colour (I believe there is another…read moreone in Ballyclare too) - they have a great selection of makeup, nail polish, toiletries and perfumes. They also have useful hints and tips on the shelves, stating whether this product is a good replacement for well known, more expensive brands. I got the W7 concealer which is better than Touche Eclat, and less than half the price! They also sell my favorite brand of foundation for £2 cheaper than anywhere else. To top it off the staff are extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, and they also offer a loyalty scheme.

They sell a range of brand name products for a great discount price. They also sell lots of brand perfume as well as imitation ones which smell exactly like the real deal. Brands include; Benefit, Clarins, Nivea etc. Your basic make up ranges all at discount price, great! I could spend all day in here smelling all the pretty scents and testing out all the samples of make up but I would probably end up looking like some nut job from a loony bin, so I'll resist and call in every now and again.
