Still with Kim, after several eventful years which I'm not sure I could have survived without her Yoga classes.

I arrived with the facility still closed and the yoga instructor showed up without the ability to get inside. We couldn't get in until 10 minutes into class time. Erica, the name of the person who was supposed to open the studio, was very brief, somewhat rude, and not welcoming. I asked her if I needed to sign anything, she just said "Just put your stuff away and go to class." The instructor, Molly, was super nice. She helped me check in and chatted with me as it was my first class with Commune and ClassPass. She challenges individuals with various movements and provides modifications as needed. I'm a bit disappointed with the engagement with the staff at the studio especially since this is my first class with them.

The studio itself is fairly small and kept "warm", which means that when they cram 40 people into the room it gets insanely humid, sweaty, and cramped. I took a class where I couldn't properly do certain poses because I was worried about accidentally hitting the person next to me. It smells sweaty too when you walk in and are hit with a wave of humidity. They really need to cap the number of people allowed in a class because everyone suffers. One of the women who works the front desk (I think she also teaches) is snappy and rude. I was getting water before class and she snapped at me to get inside - I was just trying to stay hydrated? I've heard her arguing with customers and she doesn't seem like a yogi at all - always seems grumpy and passive-aggressive like she'd rather be anywhere else. Love the teachers but probably won't come back to the studio - a lot of them seem to teach elsewhere.

It was confusing because the address indicates a restaurant so you have to walk to the back of the restaurant and look for a gate that takes you into an enclosed garden-like area with prayer flags and lights. Inside t space was very comfortable: the temperature was comfortable with more than a dozen mats neatly laid out and prepared for guests. We were invited to be cleared with Rosewater spritz and feather energy. It was very intentionally and thoroughly done like an initiation into the space. It helped us feel like we had arrived and could be very present to ourselves in the space. When everyone had arrived we were oriented to the kinds of sounds we might experience as well as the state of mind, everything from moving into it transported space to falling asleep as, she pointed out, it is sometimes the thing we need the most. We were not rushed, we were invited to write our intentions. When she began, Karen was very skillful at making the Crystal bowls sing. For an hour we were transporte. Colorful plates of finger foods and a variety of wines were served in an open, self-serve style on round tables that remained neat and tidy throughout the event. We enjoyed easy conversations with the artists and attendees, many of whom were fine artists themselves, including Dzogchen Ponlop, author of Rebel Buddha: On the Road to Freedom and an accomplished poet, calligrapher and photo artist. A relaxed, elegant evening.

The meditation room upstairs is singularly beautiful.
