Because my home is less than 10 years old, the quote seemed unreasonable, so I obtained a second opinion from another licensed electrician. I was informed that the underground service conductor issue was the responsibility of Xcel Energy, not the homeowner. I contacted Xcel Energy directly, and they inspected the issue and completed the necessary work within two days at no cost to me. Based on these facts, I believe I was asked to pay more than $2,000 for work that either was unnecessary or was the responsibility of the utility company rather than the homeowner. In my opinion, this was a serious attempt to charge me for work that I did not need to pay for. I strongly recommend that anyone receiving a costly estimate for service entrance or meter-related electrical work obtain a second opinion and contact their utility company before authorizing repairs. Adam quickly isolated the problem to be a short/break between the fuse box and a connector located prior to the fan. When the fan was not connected, the voltage at the fan input was 13.8 V. But when the fan was connected, it dropped down to approximately 3.6 V. He ran a separate wire between the two points which fixed the problem (since the intermediate wiring was not easily accessible). Adam was very personable and easy to work with during this repair. I am definitely going to keep Happy Camper Mobile RV Service on my short list for any future RV repairs!
