Once the tour got started we listened to how many different types of seals the center accommodated with rescues that were elephant seals, harbor seals, California sea lions and on occasion otters. We had a chance to see some of the patients from an elevated platform. The volunteers also made the animals' food, ran the gift shop and of course were our tour guides. Because the place thrives largely on donations, we bought plenty from the gift shop including stuffed seals, whales, magnets, snow globes, and stickers. Fun free place to bring the kiddos, not to mention the beautiful views you see in and out of the way.

This place is a phenomenal animal hospital and education center, and it's clear the volunteer staff cares just as much about the visitors as they do about the animals. They provide a laminated map so you can explore at your own pace, but we highly recommend paying for the guided tour. Our tour took us past the large Elephant Seal statue and a view inside the treatment labs and fish kitchen. From the second-level observation deck, we watched the staff care for patients in their pens--they can hold and treat hundreds of seals, sea lions, and endangered species at a time. We loved reading the success stories of animals they've rescued and released, like Lincoln, through the before-and-after flip boards. I use to dance and sing with the Hula and African programs, but I gained the greatest benefits from the performance arts part of it. I was very shy and not a very good public speaker. In fact, I had horrible stage fright. But, through the nourishment of this culturally rich program, I am able to travel and have meaningful and gratifying exchanges with people from all walks of life. Even at work, I am able to conduct meetings in front of large groups and to work as a liaison for my company. I would have never even applied for the position, if I had not acquired the self-confidence from this platform. It's hard to put into words what the program has done for my life. The instructor is just beautiful and her teaching style is unparalleled.

Last year there were 1500 runners. The people at CVNL are always super busy so it is best to just stop by and see them if you want something.

It in itself is poorly organized and if you are just inquiring to get information there is no receptionist and therefor you must guess as to who you want to talk to from a recorded laundry list of names and departments. If you guess wrong you will just have to hope that that person will refer your name to someone there that can help. My suggestion is that they hire someone to organize them before they attempt to help anyone else.
