She knew just what I needed when I needed it - offering counterpressure, words of encouragement and solicited advice and education, snacks, water, and recommendations for other professionals in her network that may be able to help me (i.e. chiropractic, pelvic floor therapy, lactation, etc.) With this being my second birth and first with the support of a doula, I can say with confidence that having a birthing team you trust is fundamental for a positive experience. I switched providers and hired a Kirsten at 33 weeks to have the care and support team I wanted, needed, and deserved and I truly believe that had Kirsten not been a part of my birthing team, my VBAC experience would not have been possible (as in, I would have had a cesarean). I interviewed 4 amazing women around the upstate but, I knew the instant I met Ashley that she was my doula! Within an hour of calling her during my labor, she was in my living room applying a hot water bottle to my back during contractions. Ashley spent the next 10 hours doing hip compressions, applying counter-pressure, making sure I stayed hydrated, suggesting different positions to help baby move down, preventing me from panicking during tough contractions, and so much more. Having her there gave me peace and direction in a time where I felt lost and helpless. I can not recommend Ashley enough. She cares for her clients and loves what she does. My husband even admitted he was glad we hired a doula He took some convincing but I know he truly appreciated having someone there to support me who knew first hand what labor was like and knew various ways of providing comfort. I could continue raving about Ashley for days. Thanks to her, I was able to enjoy a peaceful homebirth rather than being stuck in a hospital during this COVID19 nightmare.

I would not have had this experience with the hospital. She amazed me during my delivery. She handled any issue that came up quickly and with ease. I had no complications because of this. I also loved the postpartum massage that you get several days after giving birth. It felt amazing! She treated my daughters jaundice quickly, and set us up with a bili blanket so she could be treated at home. Even a year later, I contacted her after moving to NY for some post breast feeding issues. She was happy to answer my questions and give me advice! Her physical and emotional support were so incredible that I could never imagine her not being there for the births of my future children. She knew pressure points to make contractions less painful, could read my mind when I needed water, food, company, or to be left alone. I never felt afraid to tell her what I needed or be my most vulnerable self. She gives off the most heartfelt, maternal, and nonjudgmental energy of perhaps anyone I've ever met. Her support and love continued long after my actual birth with emotional care, lactation information, and help finding other resources as I needed them. She will be my doula again for my second baby in a couple months. I was always interested in having a homebirth since having my own bad experiences in hospitals. After seeing my mom friends have bad birth experiences in hospitals that interest quickly formed determination, I just didn't know how to go about it. Thankfully after posting on a local facebook group I was recommended Karen by name not just by one person but several people. I Always pictured myself finding someone Who was holistically minded whom I could learn from and very quickly when first speaking with her I realized Karen was exactly that. I'm so thankful we picked Karen for our home birth because my labor was not easy it was 30 hours long and I was not exactly the zen primal birther I had hoped to be I was throwing up crying and down right exhausted for the latter half of my birth and thinking omg how am I going to get this baby out who do I think I am??
