On a weekend, one can easily go there and hop around the area for different types of music (electronic, reggae, hip hop...you name it, they will most likely have it). If you get the munchies after a long night out, no worries, there is a food stand conveniently situated there to satisfy your cravings. But I am giving 4 stars for its rock music venue (Halle). I like the size of the venue, not too big but wide enough to move around the crowd. The acoustics of the place was decent when I went (it was an indie rock concert). Prices for beers are average-priced, but they sell the local Munich craft beer (Crew Republic), which gets bonus points from me. Whether it's a concert or a dance party, it's worth the trek to go to Backstage. (Ok, it's not too much of a trek as it's still within Munich city perimeters...but I'm lazy to travel more than 20 minutes to go out.)

The beer was great, the food was great, the service was great. The band played what I think was german punk during Octoberfest. None of the staff spoke fluent english but that was not a problem. There were a couple of dogs (golden or lab retrievers) roaming around that were just part of the restaurant.. I don't think they get alot of americans so the owner (I think) came over to visit a while. We probably spend 4 hours dining and beer drinking.
