The office is poorly managed. Besides being close to a century-like outdated, [[HIGHLIGHT]]They are extremely late to respond to the messages. It occurred twice that the office finally returned the call 1 week later.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Additionally, [[HIGHLIGHT]]this office is always closed before the stated office hour, which is the #1 rule in the business world.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It is hard to trust them to be reliable or dependable. I have been Dr Leou's patient for almost 40 years. We have literally grown up together. My wife and I have been patients of Norm Leou since he first came to the practice and I can say we probably would not be around today, if it weren't for him. He is extremely knowledgeable, committed, and 'spot on' about the treatment needed, or the specialist to see, when it comes down to assessing the problem and assessing what treatment needs to be undertaken. When I asked for the referral to be corrected so I could be seen promptly, I was instead dismissed from her care. Need to find a way to give a negative 100 to this place. Dr.Mitra is the absolute worst and her license should be revoked. The nurses are rude. The doctor doesn't treat, instead sends us back saying they don't treat "sick" patients. Which healthy patient is coming to you for fun? What's worse, if you happen to faint, they will not give a shit - and just leave you there while finding ways to charge you for fainting on premises. Been a patient for 10+ years. On high blood pressure meds for the last 4. Was in their office less than a year ago. Went to take my meds (they are delivered automatically on-line) and realized I had run out. I called the pharmacy and they said the prescription was canceled and the last 30 was the last authorized. It was Friday and their offices were closed. I had to go to a local pharmacy that would sell me the pills, but Insurance wouldn't cover because it was canceled. On Monday I called and left a message. They replied with "you need an appointment." No acknowledgement that I was out of meds. Just call back and make an appointment. I called back again to talk to someone because I couldn't believe that the doctor would leave me without meds. They spent the whole time on the phone arguing whether disallowing a renewal was canceling the meds. No shit. She said she didn't "cancel" the medicine just didn't renew it. Like there was any difference to me. The kickers is all they had to do is pick up the phone and TELL me that they were going to cancel my meds if I didn't come in for a physical. (remember these are NOT drugs that can be abused, just high blood pressure. They could have also told me that in August when I was in) When the Doctor called me back he too wanted to argue over whether canceling my meds was actually canceling. He finally agreed to renew, and I am finding a new doctors office. I can't imagine how someone could be in a healthcare field and be so laissez-faire about life saving medicine. read more

Everything started out great. Up front, I'll admit I'm not the best patient; I put things off because I know how expensive they'll be. My employer has moved to a very high deductible. Dr Leou was my sister's doc before she had to move away, and she highly recommended him. My own long-time doc had recently retired, so I went to Dr Leou. At first he was very kind and a fantastic listener, helped me get to the right specialists to figure out some issues I was having. Granted, appointments lasted 15min or less but I knew that is typical for most docs. I started having trouble getting refills for long term maintenance meds (things I've been taking for decades with little to no change). I could not get refills approved unless I came in for a checkup and blood tests, which I understand. It had been a year and I was due for a new blood workup. I was out of time off at work, and was having some issues coming in. I explained this to his nurse practitioner but she just got angry with me, which was confusing. I promised I would be making an appointment, just not yet. Less than a month later I got a knock at the door to sign for a certified letter signed by Dr Leou stating it was not a good patient/Dr fit and I was no longer his patient, and if I needed anything I should 'go to the ER'. I'm not sure what's happened with this practice, just that it's all much more impatient and less understanding than it used to be. read more

I've noticed people have a lot of negative things to say about this place but all my experiences here have been very pleasant. This review however mainly pertains for Dr. Yam and not the whole clinic staff. I started seeing Dr. John Yam from my baby years to my current self, it really shows cause my file has a bunch of stickers and is super thick. But anyways, I've never had a problem with this place. The main reasons for my visits was because I was sick, needed to get a physical, and other random reasons (do you really want to know?). But all my trips have been really pleasant. Dr. John Yam is very experienced and wise. However within the last year, I have been seeing his son Garrett as my main physician. Dr. John Yam is still around if you want to see him. I remember the first time meeting Dr. Garrett Yam, he was sooo nervous that he accidentally tore down the curtain that they use in the examination room, it was pretty funny. He is a super nice guy and he know his stuff. He refers to his dad as 'the boss' and checks his knowledge with his dad's when he needs to. I've never really had a problem scheduling a appointment either at this clinic and they seem to always squeeze me in when I visit. I called today for an appointment around one, cause I'm sick, and they had an opening at 2:30. I showed up five minutes late and still waited only ~2-3 minutes before I was taken to my examination room. I don't know about the other doctors but if you need a family physician you should definitely give Dr. John Yam or Dr. Garrett Yam a try. read more

If you want a doctor that can prescribe you something very fast and easy, a doctor who will pay minimum attention to what you have to say, and a doctor who will say the minimum required to you for fear of a lawsuit then go to this place. Furthermore they CHOSE NOT TO CARRY H1N1 VACCINE THIS SEASON, so all of us who use Interlake doctors as Primary Care Physicians are left without options because they simply preferred not to bother with carrying them. I go here for Dr. Noman Leou. He's a great doctor that listens to you and does his best to answer all your questions. The staff on the other hand is another story. I swear they hire people that are in la-la land to pick up the phones. I called in to set up an appointment for a complete physical and after getting confirmation of the date and time by repeating to the girl on the phone, I show up on the date and time provided to me and was told my appointment was the next morning! Really?? I am 24 hours early!?!? I am not a morning person, and the girl at the desk did not make it any better. After telling me my appointment was the next day, she did not apologize and just stared at me. Well, judging from that expression, missy, I can safely assume it was YOU I spoke to over the phone, eh? I re-confirmed the date and time with them before showing up the next day. I was well prepared to unleash the wrath of a groggy night owl the next day if they tell me I am 24 hours early again. I have seen lot of improvement and I'm happy that they are one of the business who take reviews seriously and work on it. Things I liked about / they have improved: 1) Immediate response 2) Regular follow up for your result 3) Very helpful front desk 4) Not pushy on getting any unnecessary tests done. 5) Not calling you to office unnecessarily to discuss the report (it was a big hassle because I had to take out time from office and go there for report and I had feedback that it was something which doesn't need an office visit but rather can be done over phone or just send the result with those minor details). In fact, they called and went over the result over phone and going to mail the report. This is exactly what I look for from my physician office. Most horrible experience you could have when you are sick and looking for reliable medical service. I had a bad shoulder pain over the night and had to see a doc right away in the morning. Called several other nearby clinic with better rating but they were all booked. Tried my luck with interlake because it's close and a friend recommended Dr. Leou once. The receptionist said Dr. Leou is out these two days so I couldn't see him till next week. I expressed my intention to shop around other clinic and she said if I am ok to see Dr. Garret Yam, I can see him today as he is on call. I said I wanted to see a doc asap so she asked me to come at 9:45 and I would see the doc at 10am. I went despite another review saying they messed up with appointment (I should REALLY trust other Yelpers!!!!!). I waited till 10:20am and the receptionist told me she only had me booked for next Tuesday with Dr. Yam! She then had the face of "it's done deal" and denied our conversation in the morning. No matter how good your doc might be, if you couldn't even handle appointment right (not asking for high quality service, just get it RIGHT so I don't waste my time and wait in pain), don't open a clinic! I've been seeing Dr. Norman Leou since I moved to the NW almost 20 years ago. He has always been very compassionate, attentive and skillful addressing my medical needs. I have never had problems getting a same-day appointment or talking with the nurses/MAs or Dr Leou himself, and they always return messages promptly. When I've had tests done by specialists I've often called him and discussed results ahead of when I would get them from the ordering physicians. I've since moved to Seattle and nearly all of my specialist care has moved there as well, but I've stayed with Dr Leou on the east side because I like him so much, I've referred many people to him over the years. It is true that their records system is archaic but they always seem to find what they need and are very good coordinating care with specialists in Seattle even though they don't normally refer patients there. In addition, Dr Leou is very personable and knows my family by name even though they've seen him far less than I have. I've seen only one other physician here, Dr, G Yam. They are huge fraudsters. Came here for an annual physical which was covered under my insurance. The lab staff and doctor added numerous checks in my bill without my knowledge. When asked they said it would be included as part of my insurance but they were not. I didn't even recognize a lot of tests that they did and charged me $300 after a month of the checkup. When i tried to explain to their bookkeeper Su on the phone she was rude and said thats how it is and is not up for discussion. The doctor will not see you anymore and banged the phone down. I am seeing to Dr. Shobhna Mitra from last 2 years for the physical. She did my blood test and got to know my reports after few days. Reports were not good, so, called them back again to talk to doctor. I have been calling them from last 3 days , left the message but I still didn't get call back yet. I wouldn't recommend Dr. Norman Leou to anyone. This is the first time I'm writing a negative feedback for someone but I think it's important for new patients to have this information. I and my husband had went there for our annual heath check up which was covered by our insurance. The doctor performed many aditional tests that he thought was "necessary" even though we don't have any family history of any of those diseases. Also, he asked us to come again to collect our reports and counted them as "office visits" even though no medication was prescribed. I ended up with a $500 bill for routine health check-up covered by my insurance. When I enquired about the bill, I was told that it was relating to my thyroid issues which I only had informed him when he asked about my medical history. So he was charging me the money to repeat what I told him without even prescribing any medicines. I don't trust his practice anymore and would never visit him again. There are many other good doctors in the area who don't need to resort to such money making schemes. read more

I've been to this clinic many times over the past 8 years. Overall they have been responsive. One of the pretty young ladies who is often at the front desk is a bit rude. The nurses are nice. Dr. Garrett Yam is charming, nice and helpful. His father Dr. John Yam is often nice but not always which is what prompted me to write this review. I went for my Annual well check today and had a few concerns which I checked on the questionnaire. He did not ask me about them. It didn't really matter how I answered his questions, there were no follow-ups. Do you do any physical activity? No. (There was no follow-ups) How much coffee do you drink per day? Between 2 and 7. No follow-up. I asked him if he could check for Vitamin D, he said everyone is in the NW and should take Vitamin D, MultiVitamin and Calcium pills everyday. I told him I took Vitamin D3 for few months but didn't notice a difference. He said I cannot talk about this. You would have to schedule a separate appointment to address this. I asked him whether we get an order to check the testosterone levels, he said you have to come for a separate appointment. He did not address or even ask about concerns I had noted on the questionnaire. I don't know what was wrong today. Maybe he was annoyed that I had my toddler with me. Not sure. But my experience was bad enough that it promoted me to create a yelp account and write a review for him. read more

I strongly recommend going somewhere else. We've had a terrible experience with the administrative side of this medical practice. Staff has always been unfriendly and non-responsive, they say they will return calls, send fax or any requested info, and they don't. We are moving to another practice and I have been trying to get my medical records for the last 8 weeks without any success. Today they said they don't have a person in charge of managing patient's records... What type of medical practice is this?!!! This is unacceptable, shame on them. It's impossible to get to speak to the doctor, so hopefully this review will be read by them some day and this will help them realize the lousy job their administrative staff is doing. read more

I took my older daughter to see Dr. John Yam maybe 25 years ago. He was nice enough, but not very helpful for this new mom. When I tried to ask him about any concerns he would say we had to reschedule to discuss it. In my opinion a well child check should include questions about diet and sleep patterns and any concerns. We swtiched to a wonderful doc in Kirkland, who always made sure all of my questions were addressed, but he has since retired. I'm not surprised that is son is not all that great. This review is for Dr Sorbona Mitra. I am not sure from where and how she got a medical degree. She doesn't even qualify as a nurse. I went to see her for a problem and she spent less than 15 seconds to look at the problem and said that she cannot treat and asked me to go to somewhere else or to urgent care. Yet, she sent a bill. A unqualified horrible experience. I went for a regular Wellness physical. No urgent issues. Cutting to the chase; after 3 EKG's the MD decided I was in accute cardiac distress and wanted 2 call an ambulance for immediate transport. I refused, but agreed to go to an ER in Redmond. I did not have any symptoms. I then went to Redmond Emergency, EvergreenHealth. Once I said faulty EKG they jumped into action. Quickly an ER doc said I have a normal EKG, but to be sure I waited for result of blood chemistry, checking for an enzyme only present if u have suffered a cardiac issue. I was discharged after about 2 hours. FYI: Original MD, Jacklin Joseph from Interlake never even called to follow up! read more

This review is mostly for the staff. The front desk staff always acts put out that you are there and they are quite rude. I have waited for the doctor upwards of 30 minutes before but if you are 5 minutes late for your appt they will not see you ( I figure at that point I would only have to wait 25 minutes. . . ) I got very sick and called to see them and the scheduler said "If you are sick, we don't want to see you - go to the ER" - I did go to the ER and they were surprised my internist would not see me during office hours. Hmm..perhaps I should have seen Dr. Yam, after reading the other reviews from this year. I did not have a good experience at all, at this clinic and I'm hesitant to blame that on the doctor I saw, so I won't mention their name here (but hint: it wasn't Dr. Yam!). Apart from one nurse (who was young, friendly and bubbly) I have to say the rest of the staff I encountered there were less than warm/welcoming/friendly - - which is a requirement for me, especially when I'm not feeling well and need help. I honestly feel like I would have been better off going to an Urgent Care clinic. Be ready to feel like a number if you go here. Come prepared, knowing what is wrong with you and/or what prescription you're seeking and/or what blood tests you would like to get done. If you've been experiencing a fever, make sure you ask them to check your temperature right then and there. I told them I had a fever that morning but nobody bothered to check it. Don't assume that you will get all the basics checked. Be prepared to request what you want done. There is one story I will share. I'm not scared of needles, but if you are, be prepared for a potentially awkward scenario when you get your blood drawn. I got a needle put in my left arm and in my right hand, the nurse abruptly said "hold this" and gave me two tubes to hold which she then went on to fill after the tube attached to the needle in my left arm was filled. Perhaps I'm being dramatic here but I found it sort of uncomfortable, and a bit insensitive in terms of patient treatment. She also just left the room abruptly, without saying bye and I ended up waiting in the room, until I walked myself out to the front desk to see if I was done. I felt really mistreated. If you're not sure what is wrong with you, and are seeking help in figuring that out, do your homework and find a more recognized doctor. This office may be good about getting you in for an appointment on the same day you call, but don't translate that into a quicker diagnosis and/or feeling better sooner. read more

Excellent bedside manor, listens intently to your concerns and takes a conservative approach to medication. Doctor Leou reads your chart before you arrive and is up to speed on your history. I've been here about 3 times. I can second the complaint about long wait times. It's usually on average 30-45 minutes of sitting around waiting in a room before I finally get to see a doctor. HOWEVER, it has never been too hard to get an appointment either the same day or the next day. If that's the trade off I guess, so be it. Just for that quality alone I'll give 3 stars. Dr. Joseph is eh, ok. A nice basic doctor, and she's really good at referring you to other doctors or prescriptions- which is what most of my experience with her was. Most disgusting experience with administrative and book keeping department, no respect and not attentive to the records. They are sending my invoices to wrong address for 120 days and finally they called two days before due date and updated the address. when i called them back for getting more details they said my records are upto date but didn't receiving bills to postal department mistake and i need to check with them. so awful experience that they said "they don't care" about my due amount and pushed me to pay on the same day otherwise they are going to refer it to collections department. On top of it during my second call they said their records are with correct address data. Very bad experience and i strongly recommend to avoid taking services from this medical center. read more
