I really don't know why there're so many excellent reviews of this Technician. I went there after reading these reviews but my real experience sucks! I bought my Nikon D80 4yrs ago and it got problem to store the images into the memory card 3 months ago. I brought it there and was asked to pay $50 as deposit. 1 week later, I received a call and he said there's a small part damaged and needs replacement. The cost of the part is no more than 50 dollars but the labor fee would be around 230 dollars. I was shocked by the total price of the repair - $280. I decided not to let him repair it. He told me that it will take him 2 weeks to get it assembled back because he has a lot of more important business to do. I accept that. After more than one month, I still didn't receive any call from him, so I called back. He said it was OK to get it back now and I need to pay $45 for the check. I asked whether he wants to buy this camera back since it's just a small damage and the camera can works fine after the repair. His answer really pissed me off. He said if I want to sell it to him, he won't pay me any money but just waive the $45 check fee. What a hell! I bought the machine 4yrs ago around $1600, and it only worth $45 now? I definitely won't sell it to him. I got back my machine and asked for $5 from him. Because I gave him $50 as the deposit and the check fee is $45. I guess you all know! I was too naive again. He definitely won't give me $5 back and yelled to me loudly as if I really have a cheek to ask for $5 back from this "old gentle man"! read more

Woww, stay away if there's a chance you're going to not accept the quote! Such a bad experience that I had to write my first Yelp review. An SD card broke into the card slot in my Canon Rebel T3i so that the camera wouldn't recognize any cards any more. I chose ICT based on the overwhelmingly positive Yelp reviews. My wife dropped the camera off on July 8th. Paying 40 bucks for fault analysis instead of 50 because the nice old man had told her to pay the 10 bucks later. On Friday the 12th of July I receive a call from a technician from the shop saying they had disassembled the camera and the card reader would need to be replaced because the pins inside are all broken. He gives me a quote of 230 USD minus the fault analysis. I kindly refuse explaining that in this case I'll just buy a new camera although I would loose some money. He goes on to explain that this is a 900 USD camera and worth fixing. I still refuse knowing I bought it for 600. He then starts complaining that the camera is all in pieces and that I would need to pay extra if I didn't want it back in pieces. I explained him that was not the deal. After some back and forth he puts the nice old man on the phone who now tells me that I owe them nonetheless because my wife hadn't paid up all the 50 USD (sic!). I tell him I'll gladly pay the 10 bucks we still owe him. He promises to call me back when the camera is assembled. On Tuesday 16th no one has reached out to me yet. I call and ask if I can pick up the camera, they say I could. On Wednesday 17th I go and pick up the camera which is still broken. I go to a different repair shop that fixes the problem in 5 minutes. There was a shiny orange piece of plastic stuck in the SD card slot. I go back to ICT to investigate how they hadn't discovered that piece while fault investigating and disassembling the camera. Both the technician and the old man refuse to admit the fault and play the dumb card for a while. Pretending not to understand why I'm unsatisfied. After a while the old man gives me my 50 USD back saying I should be all happy that I got my camera working and the money back. No apology even ... read more

I had high hopes for ICT, given the very positive reviews. Unfortunately, I did not have a similarly positive experience. The old guys in there are interesting characters - gotta love that! The shop itself is a wonder to behold - so full it is of vintage cameras. I brought ICT two cameras to repair: one a 10 year old Canon DSLR and one a vintage Minolta XG-1. The Canon needed general servicing, but was also producing photos marred by shadowy dots in blue skies. The Minolta had been left in an old camera bag in a hot storage unit far too long. The camera bag disintegrated leaving black dust all over the camera; it needed a good, thorough cleaning. After waiting a very long time to be helped in the shop, and a very long time for the cameras to be serviced, I waited a very long time again in the shop to pick up the cameras. The servicing was very expensive. Given the price and the long wait, I expected the cameras to be in excellent condition. Alas, the cameras are not in excellent condition. The Canon takes photos with more shadowy dots than ever. The Minolta still has bits of disintegrated camera bag lodged in cracks and crevices. Rather than make the long drive and endure the long wait again, I'll take the cameras elsewhere and pay someone else to, hopefully, do a better job this time. read more

While trying to clean the focusing screen on my Canon DSLR, I managed to make things worse. While it seemed I could continue to use the camera just fine, with only minor annoyance, I decided to make it right, or so I thought. Vic replaced the focusing screen and it looked overall better, except for what looked like 2 smudges in the bottom corners. I told him about them and he immediately said these are scratches on the prism. However, I distinctly remembered that those were not present before the replacement. I asked if he could remove the screen so we could see if smudges were there without it. He became angry saying that it will cost another $18. I could not care less to pay an extra $18 to get it right though. With a few extra tries including one with the screen out the smudges were only visible with the new screen in. I then discovered a new speck/dot and a fiber or 2. He then asked if I want the old one back. I immediately said yes. He put it back. However, now it was all dirty, WORSE than they way I came in with it! The 2 smudges in the bottom corners disappeared though. Now, I don't know if the new screen was defective or if the installation was bad, but this was a really bad experience. For Vic to blame the prism, which obviously was not the case is not professional. I would highly recommend against using this store. read more

I did something stupid. I fell off a ledge and ON TOP of my camera. Yes, I'm short, but I`m still pretty heavy, especially for my SLR, considering the other side was concrete. The result actually wasn`t too bad, with a slight scratch on the body. The lens cap had a little hole on it, but the lens itself was dented in right next to the lens eye, and the zoom got stuck. I brought it here just before closing, and Fred came out of the back, where he was working on another project. After I explained the situation, he took it back to his desk to examine. When he came back out, he explained to me that it was completely broken, and while he could fix it, he didn`t think it would be worth it. He then took time to suggest what I could do instead. Not only did one of my DSLRs break, two did! ICT fixed both my Canon Rebel XTI (broken pin in CF slot) and my Nikon D3100 (broken shutter). The men that work here are friendly and knowledgeable. They do have a required $50.00 deposit per device, then they look at it to give you a quote and apply the deposit to the repair/shipping if they have to send it out. I'm a negative person. It's unfortunate but true but I have nothing negative to say about this place. Manfred is a vintage camera God. The kind of person you don't have the luxury of relying on these days but he's there. Fixed my old Nikon F. Replaced the light seals, recalibrated the shutter speed, cleaned up the fungus that was starting to form before any damage was done to it forever. Just a couple of FYIs. Cash or check only. I went to this store after trying to find a place to have my 35mm Canon AE-1P cleaned and repaired after the light seals were broken down of old age. When I arrived to the store, from greetings to service it is top-notch. I informed the person that was helping me, that I needed a light seal replacement and perhaps have my mirror box cleaned, since the light seals (foam) were degraded. He informed me of the price (boy was it expensive) of the intricate job that needs to be done to clean it, and the price made me decided not have the cleaning done. Fast forward a few days after the drop-off, I came to pick it up and as he brung my camera out, he informed me that he had done the light seal job, and addition to that he cleaned it for free! It blew me away when he informed me that an additional $150.00 cleaning job was done for free. With humble gratitude of such a humble gesture of his service, I truly thanked him of the bottom of my heart. I've never had such kind services of that level before. I knew immediately when I looked at my serviced camera of the workmanship that went into the repair and cleaning. Crystal clear. I reiterate, their service is top notch, they are great to talk to. The gentlemen that was helping me has over 45+ years of experience and the owner 60+ years. It's great to see such level of technical skills that went into repairing my camera. When my Nikon DSLR started acting up I called around to three local shops that advertise camera repair. Staff at the other two were very gruff in stating that they don't really repair cameras, but Fred at ICT offered to take a look at it in his own shop first and then forward it on to Nikon for repair if he couldn't fix it himself. As I expected, it needed factory repair. Fred managed the process for me and even got Nikon to expedite the repair & return so I could get it back in time to take on a vacation. I visited the shop a few weeks ago because my camera has been having some issues. I called up and spoke to a gentleman about the calibration issue and he said he can have a look. He very kindly tested my lenses and the camera body despite being a very busy day. Turns out that the issue had to be handled by the manufacturer directly. I give 5 star review because of my experience here with the shop owner and wish it could have been rectified at his end. I dont think I have ever been into a camera service store that cares as much about my camera as I do. I can tell they have passion about what they do and pride in their work just by talking to them about the service. I took my Canon 30D into their store to get a sensor cleaning. I am not talking about a quick swab of the sensor, because I have tried the copper-hill method which works decently but still did not remove every single spec. I have taken it to other stores which swab it and call it good. These guys took apart the camera and did a full cleaning of not just the sensor but surrounding parts to ensure a cleaned sensor. If you want your camera cleaned right the first time, i highly recommend these guys to do it. Turn around time was 2 days and the price was well worth the final result. My camera sensor takes pictures like when i first removed it from the box. This place is cash or check only and they ask for a deposit which is refunded in the cost of the service. read more

Can not say enough. Twenty year old lens. Barrel internals busted. Internal glass had spots of fungus. Didn't know what to do: buy new or repair? Long story short. The lens is better then new!!!!! Compared to its current version (Canon L 24-70/2.8), my old but newly repaired 28-70 does not disappoint a single bit!!! Plus, he's just super duper cool to chat with!!!!! My son wanted a film camera to use at college so I walked in with 4 different cameras that I had aquired over the years all of them with problems that kept them from being functional. He not only explined what it would take to make them all functional he told me that the cheapest repair would give me the best camera and that he would only need to charge me parts. The process took an extra 30 minutes because of a problematic spring. During that time I was thinking about the extra charges that were going to show up (there were none) and how upset I would be if I tried to do the work myself. Thanks Vic. It's really hard to find a knowledgable local camera shop. I like to be able to walk in with the camera and explain the problem I am having. When I took my Nikon FM2 in, the guy who greeted me was able to take a pretty good guess about what the issue was going to be and what it was likely to cost. He turned out to be exactly correct, and the repair was almost exactly what he initially estimated. Of course, once they had really opened the camera they called me to confirm the estimate and check they were authorized to do the repair. The camera was fixed within a few days of drop off. The only downside was that I missed the message it was done. But they gave me a call again to remind me. Camera repair is expensive, and I've never had a camera repair cost less than $200. From this stand point I found the shops prices to be reasonable for the amount of work and parts they replaced. I have there for rated their price as "Moderate" because I don't believe you can get a quality repair for any less than they charge, but it's still going to be "expensive" by some accounts. read more
