So you think you can dance?!!?!???…read more Yes! I was ready to show that I knew how to shake it, push it real good, get my groove on and back that bootilicious thang up. Did my London London Bridge wanna go down? Ooohhhh, ye-ah... Justin, my dear, you aren't the only one bringing sexy back. The music started. My instructor, Patrice, flowed as though her body controlled the beat. She effortlessly and skillfully moved and bopped, hipped and hopped. And me? Well, I learned that knowing how to do the running man didn't make me an instant dancer. (But, man, my running man is REALLY good!) Synergy Hip Hop teaches classes at various Bally's in the area. Non-Bally members can go by paying a small fee (members have to pay a little extra too). I've been to many hip hop classes at different gyms, and I have to say that these are some of the best! Some in the past were TOO simple, but most were too complicated. I used to go to a 24-hour Fitness class where this Asian dude with blue hair used to do these CRAZY moves, like Michael Jackson on crack, and I was instantly lost within the first 10 minutes. It made me want to give up. Here? Instructors always go through all the moves several times, breaking it down in the beginning before speeding it up. They're simple enough that most semi-coordinated people with two legs will be able to get it, but you'll still feel like you're getting a workout because of the fast repetition. There's a really cute, middle-aged Caucasian couple who used to have a hard time when they first started, but now they're jamming with the best of them. I'm partial to Patrice's classes, but other instructors are good too. If Synergy is performing in your area, they're worth seeing too. They were around before this recent dance craze started, and they'll last long after it passes. Whether you think you can dance or not, Synergy makes it easy to learn, and - more importantly - fun!

I regularly attend Belly Dance classes there, and I wholeheartedly recommend this place to everyone who wants not only to dance, but also to feel inspired, empowered, and connected through dance. The check-in person was super welcoming and told me about some of the other dance formats offered there. This dance studio caters to both children and adults. So you will see kids running around, which is ok, but I am not really used to. The class started on time. The instructor had great energy and encouraged us to have fun and do things our own style. I haven't been dancing in a while, so I knew it would be a good challenge for me. I really had a lot of fun. My only surprise is that the classes are only 60 mins. I think they ought to be 70 minutes to include a proper 5 min warm-up and 5-minute cool-down. There wasn't a lot of warming up in the beginning of this particular class. I've taken adult dance classes for years and I am used to something that include some warm-up movements to get the rotating joints going, like neck rolls, shoulder rolls, and hip and lower back movements. The class did include a relaxing cool down with stretching for the lower body and upper body. I plan to take more Hip-Hop style classes. They offer Cardio Hip-Hop, Beginner Hip-Hip and more advanced levels, Sensual Dance, Twerk, Ballet, Shuffle, Street Jazz and a lot more. I plan to try about 5 more formats and sign-up for one class for the summer session. I highly recommend this place!
