We found Perfect Pointe at the start of the pandemic after our daughter's dance studio decided to close. She had taken ballet since age 2.5 and was 4.5 when she joined Mr. Phillip's dance combo class during "bring a friend" week. She loved it and decided to sign up for a summer Hip Hop and Tumble class. At the time, the classes were all online and Mr. Phillip still managed to get to know my daughter personally and push her to grow in her dance and tumbling skills through the screen. Once things opened up post-Covid, we continued to take classes at Perfect Pointe in person. My daughter has loved dancing there and even joined one of the competition teams this year. We find that we are at the dance studio often now. But, we still find time to play soccer, do Girl Scouts, and a few other activities. The staff and families at Perfect Pointe are friendly and encouraging, the choreography and costumes are age appropriate, and the variety of dance styles and teachers keep dance interesting for the kids. You will not get a "Dance Moms" vibe from Perfect Pointe. It's been a great place for our family to experience dance in Northern Virginia. read more

Perfect Pointe has been my daughter's dance studio for 10 years. The teachers and staff are like family to us. What I love most about the teachers and classes is how inclusive and loving they are. Students feel valued no matter what their skill level is. They are given room to learn and grow in a safe, nurturing environment. Also, I love that at recital time the students are dressed in age-appropriate costumes with minimal makeup encouraged. We plan to continue with Perfect Pointe for many years to come. read more

I am a student at Perfect Point. All of the staff and students are very nice and welcoming. I see them almost every day and now we are like a family. The studio is very organized and I have a lot of fun in my classes. I love trying on costumes and practicing recitals or company dances because It's enjoyable. After all, we get to do it on stage. I cannot say enough great things about Perfect Pointe and how wonderful it has been for our child. Miss Katie and the PP team focus on giving every student life lessons and experiences that will benefit from for years to come, not just the most talented or elite dancers. Wish I could give them negative results-the teacher, Miss Katie, is unbearable!@ She is nasty, doesn't interact with the kids and the manager is even worse! I asked for a refund and the teacher didn't even take the time to call me, wanted me to email her what my expectations for the class was! They refunded me everything but the 2 classes and when I insisted for the full refund, I received a nasty email back from the manager, stating that it is me and my other person that took my daughter to the class, that were at fault! Please read their response, "Given the numerous happy clients that have continued to sign up for this class, with this teacher, time and again, the fact that you gave it only two classes, with two different people brining your student those two times, and that the teacher sent you a very thorough e-mail explaining what to expect in this class and offering to discuss your particular expectations and goals with you further, which you refused, I think it fair to say that the quality of the class is not actually the heart of the issue here. However, as stated before, since the class does not seem to meet with your expectations, we were willing to waive our two week notice policy that you agreed to, along with the withdrawal fee, and have issued your refund accordingly. We will not be bending our policies any further and our business is concluded at this time. Please do not contact us again about this matter. " I hope nobody goes to this institute and realizes that this place is not a good place to send your kid, as they do not engage and/or care about anyone's opinions. My daughter has been dancing here since she was 5. We came from another studio that was solely focused on ballet. We left the other studio because my daughter- who would dance around the house all day long- was not enjoying her class. At PerfectPointe they make it fun for the kids. My daughter has really thrived there- we are going into our 9th year now. She has a solid group of friends and good dance instruction. She's at a place now where dance and another extra curricular activity are her "go to's" when she needs to manage through something in her life- and I love that she has found joy and happiness in dance, even during the teen years. In reading some other reviews I'm surprised- I really feel like the studio tries hard to be inclusive. There is a large, supportive community associated with this studio and I'm glad to be a part of it. read more

I just took them to court this morning and had a judgement. This judgement paid me back for our tuition but not for dresses (270 plus), that we never received. I never received the dress, they hand delivered it to everyone else. I call that discrimination. I plan on appealing. I was very emotional and upset. I think Chris is a liar ( tried to say he sent an email to all families to pick up dresses, lie) and Kendra is a piece of work because I complained about Zoom, she wants to ban my kids from the studio. Period!!! I think you see the worst of people during a pandemic. I would never recommend this school to anyone. If you are smart don't ever prepay, because when their is a problem, they won't work it out. I will fight them and expose them with everything I have, this isn't about money but about discrimination, policy, etc... it cost me more to fight them but I have the resources. All I ever wanted was an apology and either a credit for a face to face courses in the future or our money back, instead I received insults and lies. Today is Audrey's birthday and I am so mad at the studio and Covid that I am seeing red. I had to listen to the judge tell me how he wanted to give the studio something because they were suffering to! Really! They could have had my full tuition as a credit! They were brag about how they got their PPP. I don't feel sorry for liars! I don't feel sorry for people who aren't racial sensitive and send monkey recital costumes to black children. I have no empathy. FYI the judge claimed that even though they agreed numerous of times to refund, their emails meant nothing. Reminder to all it might be cheaper to pay upfront but you shouldn't because if their is a problem, and you think you can trust people, it doesn't work that way. I am a very generous person but I hate feel used! Or taken advantage by this studio. My horrific experience doesn't mean the studio doesn't have great teachers or people it, it is about not only how they treat your kids but you. I wanted to take some time to fully process and gather my thoughts before writing this review. My daughter was a student here from 2018-2020. Her initial instructor Ms.Kendra was amazing. My daughter was always excited to attend class and left with a smile on her face. For context my daughter was 2 initially. The following year my daughter took part in classes with April. I was extremely busy with work so relied on my nanny and mom to get my daughter to and from class as well as to monitor the sessions. My mom approached me and indicated she did not like the way April interacted with my daughter. My mom indicated April appeared to be annoyed with my daughter, unreasonably isolated and disciplined her, and etc. I initially decided to take what my mom said with a grain of salt, I figured if things were of that level of concern my nanny would notify me. A week or so later my nanny came forward and indicated basically what my mom had. The teacher appeared irritable when engaging with my child, would often limit or skip engagement with her, and lastly would unreasonably place her on time out. My nanny attempted to speak with April, but April basically brushed her off because she was not a parent. I initially called to discuss the matter but felt the receptionist was not taking my concern seriously. I made time to visit the studio to speak with someone in person. The receptionist was extremely rude, dismissive, and indicated she would have April call me. April called, her reasoning/explanation for everything was bologna. It infuriated me that an instructor at this studio would behave in such a way to a 3 year old, it was even more so upsetting that my concerns were not adequately addressed. My husband got involved and we basically told April she was not to discipline our child and if she had concerns in regards to my daughters behavior she could signal for our nanny to take over. You would think my kid was extremely troublesome by the way April treated her. April is the only adult in an instructor/teacher capacity that has ever had any real complain about my daughter. My daughter is a sweet and gentle spirit and looking back on it I should've removed her from the studio once my moms concerns were substantiated and the studio did not handle the behavior in a way in which I was comfortable with. God intervened and the Covid shut down happened maybe 1-2 weeks after all of this. Perfect Point offered students virtual lessons , I thought this was the perfect opportunity to disengage my daughter from this toxic studio and took full advantage of it! Around this time the studio either dropped performance costumes off or asked parents to pick them up, I can't remember which one. My nanny showed me the costume which was a monkey costume. Considering the dance to take place, music, and my daughters race I felt uneasy about this. My white husband however was furious. We didn't think this was an intentional thing, but given the climate at the time the studio should've exercised my thoughtfulness when selecting costumes for the children to wear. I reached out to a friend to get her insight on it, we basically agreed it was just sheer ignorance on their part. Comparing notes however I learned that my friend and I had similar experiences with April and the supporting staff at Perfect Point. From the way the supporting staff acted when I expressed concern in regards to April, you would've thought our scenario was an isolated incident. This further substantiated for me that we made the right decision in cutting our daughters exposure off to this studio. The cherry on top.... The owner of the studio was made aware that we were not comfortable with the costume selection. She sent an email that was basically a poor attempt at an excuse/apology. I forwarded the email along to my husband so he can respond. Once he pressed sent on his email he received a message back that it was basically a robot of an email account. The account can send emails but does not receive replies and etc. This was the cherry on the top for me and my feelings are that Perfect Point is an extremely toxic environment and that the staff are disingenuous amongst other things. Take what you want from this review, but we will never return and I will never suggest friends send their children here! read more

Perfect Pointe has been a second home for my daughter. She loves to go to dance there and over the last decade has steadily increased her participation, She has gained a Solid dance foundation, found a supportive teacher cadre and most importantly, a very strong, inclusive group of friends, She continues to be challenged to excel and loves the support she receives. Covid has been tough on this small business but they are really working hard to provide a great dance education in this unprecedented time, You will love your time at this studio! read more

We came to Perfect Pointe because of its outstanding tap dance program. My daughters have stayed because it is a great place for an all-around dance education with friendly, patient, and very talented teachers. The studio owner is a lovely person who has encouraged my kids to set personal goals and to have a healthy self image. My girls have taken ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, acro and modern classes at the studio. They like the camaraderie, choreography, workshop, and performance opportunities of the Competition Companies. Because we've moved, over the years we've participated in recitals of four different dance studios. By far, Perfect Pointe provides the best overall recital experience. Tickets for reserved seating are arranged online, so on the day of recital there is no need for parents to rush to camp out for spots. Dress rehearsal and recital dates are provided far in advance. The youngest dancers are entertained at their assigned tables with coloring activities. The studio provides a table of bun making supplies and hair sprays while volunteers assist with recital hair styles. Costumes and choreography are age-appropriate. Very considerate! Perfect Pointe is a small facility with only two studios at its main location and one additional satellite space. Some popular classes fill up quickly. Although a single ballet class session is comparable in quality to a class at Ballet Nova or Adagio Ballet, Perfect Pointe ballet classes generally meet only once a week until the highest level. This gives kids time to explore other dance styles, or allows students to dance at Perfect Pointe while taking part in school activities. My daughter has been attending perfect pointe since she was 4 and is now in her 11th year taking dance. The studio, teachers and staff are amazing and treat you and your dancer like family. We love the studio and are amazed how they kept everything running through covid with a super positive outlook and great tech skills!! My daughter is 4, almost 5. We checked out Perfect point at the beginning of the school year on the recommendation of a neighbor. We haven't been disappointed. She attends the Sr. Pre-School Dance Combo class. She has a lot of fun, has learned some of the basics and comes home showing me what she's learned. The class is small with two teachers. I like that the room is set up so parents can't really see in during class, mainly because it would distract my daughter and she'd spend more time trying to impress me than listen to her teacher. I've been very happy with the level of communication from the dance studio with regard to upcoming important dates, snow day closures, etc. I think the only very minor issue is that classes are butted up right next to each other, with little to no transition time. So it can get a little crazy when you're getting ready to head into class and the class before you is letting out. A minor issue for us; nothing to prevent us from continuing at Perfect Pointe. read more

My daughter takes ballet mainly because she loves the music and costumes, and I like that she gets some exercise and poise. Neither of us have any expectations of her becoming a professional dancer, or even keeping up with lessons beyond high school. For us, Perfect Pointe has been, well, perfect. Less intense and serious that her previous ballet school, and more formal than her community center classes, Perfect Pointe had provided a great dance education. I can't speak to technical abilities of the teachers, but they all seem pleasant with the kids. The office run like a well-oiled machine--costumes come in on time, payment withdrawals are always accurate, communication hits that nice balance between enough information without an overwhelming avalanche emails, teachers are on time and ready for their classes. The recitals are amazing--the studio hosts three in the same day. Yet, they run on time, with no awkward gaps between performances and with a great variety of dances. Cost is reasonable, and I love the fact that they will let you take a make-up class at another date/time if you're absent. read more

Sadly, my daughters still hate the thought of ballet, which they absolutely adored prior to her horrific experience at Perfect Pointe. They had such great experiences elsewhere (see former post), I am deeply saddened that they are now actually traumatized. It should be noted that their year end performance was a colossal disaster, disorganized and stressful for all involved. Unfortunately, the owner seems most concerned with the bottom line and signing up as many children as possible, at any expense. The truth is no matter to her. The furthest thing on her mind seems the children and certainly the parents. Whatever you do, look elsewhere. In fact, drive the extra ten or so minutes in order to do so. Thankfully, we have had so many positive experiences with almost all other classes. Our friends also avoid this place for the same reasons. [It is sad to me that anyone would think my review of this place is funny. Whomever wrote that is obviously not a parent. As with any class, be extremely wary of any over-the-top "rah-rah-rah" reviews as they are likely prompted in some fashion by the owner. But you already knew that.] Happy dancing. Elsewhere, of course. HORRIBLE FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID. EDIT: It seems this is the only review that was so obviously not solicited and/or influenced. Our daughter has been dancing since she was 4, and she has taken classes at three studios: one that is now closed, Perfect Pointe, and BalletNova. Perfect Pointe has some wonderful teachers and a very relaxed attitude. It can be great if your child is just taking classes for fun and exercise. We came back to P.P. after a few years at BalletNova because our daughter was too stressed trying to be perfect. She decided she just needs a class where she can have fun, get exercise, relax and enjoy dancing. I don't know about the owner; other reviewers mention her but we haven't had much contact with her. I do agree that PP's recitals are ridiculous - too many kids, the school where they're held becomes a zoo - although an organized zoo - but packed way too full - and the dances are all somewhat sloppy, including the select troupes. Also, the main office at Perfect Pointe gets very busy and crowded; it can be difficult to get the attention of the person at the desk, because she is being pulled six ways from Sunday by all the parents and children who need attention. To the point of another reviewer - yes, PP seems to have taken on too many children. They should increase their staff and front desk space accordingly, to maintain a calm equilibrium. That has not happened. Fortunately, we only need to go to the office once each semester, to buy shoes. So this is a inconvenience we can live with. But the parents of newer children, who probably have a lot of questions, must hate it. If you want your child to learn technically correct ballet, I recommend BalletNova or Adagio. BalletNova had a teacher my daughter hated, but boy did she teach them beautiful form. Their Nutcracker is a lovely, precise, professional production - go and you'll be wowed. They have two tracks of classes - the "fun" track and the "considering professional" track. We chose the "considering" track, and as we got closer to the Nutcracker performance, our daughter was rehearsing three and then four days a week - it was too much for both of us, but she was in great shape and her technique was perfect. Ultimately she decided to go back to P.P., because the quest for perfection was too extreme for her, but your child may differ. Certainly, it is far easier, as a viewing parent, to sit through BalletNova's performances - quite a pleasure. read more

I can't imagine why any parent who cares about their child succeeding in the dance world would send them to perfect pointe. This place is nothing more than a daycare really. I took my daughter out of this studio, and I'm very glad I did. My daughter is very serious and dedicated when it comes to dance, and this studio offers nothing for serious competitive dancers. If your child wants a quality dance education, challenging classes, the chance to go to authentic competitions like yagp, get into summer dance intensives, or receive scholarships, do not waste your money here! Also, why do they post the same thing on facebook every week? Dance is very competitive, and if studios want to succeed they need to be offering classes and opportunities at the competitive level. read more

My four year old daughter was enrolled for a full year at Perfect Pointe and it was a very memorable, fun and educational experience for her (and me!). The staff was warm, friendly and very professional. The owner was very interactive in her teaching and worked very patiently with the children. All the kids that I saw in her classes were engaged, smiling and excited to participate. The best part for our family was seeing it all come together at the recital. The little ones were adorable and the older dancers seemed well choreographed. I'd absolutely recommend Perfect Pointe and am considering enrolling both my children (daughter and son) next year. read more

Courtesy! The studio is run by a former hard-core Russian ballerina. There are lots of different classes every day in 5-6 studios. Each studio has a video camera and youcan even watch your kids on the giant TV. For younger kids, they tend to focus more on technique and lessons instead of just being an organized play date. I am so disappointed with this studio and furious at how Ms. Alice wonderlid, the office manager, spoke to me when I called midway through camp and tried to discuss how to make this experience better for the two boys who are signed up for Music Stars Video Camp. She was defensive, told me right away the camp was non refundable, and even laughed at me, when my approach was to respectfully figure out what is going wrong and how to make it better for the next 3 days. She repeatedly interrupted me to correct me and told me to "go to my happy place"! She spoke to me like I was a 5 year old. This 3 hour camp was expensive, held in a small basement studio that smelled awful, with no breaks or games. It was advertised that the students will "create and star in their own music video", when in reality, the teacher will take a video of the whole class doing a choreography, which the teacher creates. There are no breaks or games. Maybe this will be ok with a child who is eager to please, takes dance very seriously, but not for my boys who love music and dance but have a hard time being in a strict, suffocating and humorless environment for 3 hours. I would not support this terrible business and take your money somewhere else, where they have the kids' best interest in mind and treat you with respect. read more

I am a dance teacher at a different studio in Northern VA, and I have nothing but rave reviews for Perfect Pointe. Our dance studio participates with Perfect Pointe in workshops and dance competitions throughout the year through Dance Masters of America. I'm always impressed with Ms. Kendra (the owner) and her dedication to not only her students, but also her staff. She is more than qualified to be teaching dance, but above that, she is supportive and eager to offer her students the best. Ms. Kendra puts education first - encouraging her staff to keep learning through workshops and teacher training every year. By continuing to educate themselves, the teachers at Perfect Pointe are able to offer their students top notch dance training. The Perfect Pointe students that I've had the pleasure of interacting with at workshops and competitions are always well trained, respectful, and friendly. Our daughter is in her second year of preschool classes here and our son has taken one parent-and-me class. This studio has been wonderful for both of them! The preschool classes cover a range of dance techniques and activities, and the teachers make it interesting and engaging for young students. We tried other local studios, and the atmosphere was not as friendly, the teachers not as engaging, and the range of dance much more limited. Honestly it was Perfectly Pointless. In my daughter's 8 years of dance schools, I have never seen such a disorganized school and recital. She learned her routines just weeks before the recital. The 6-7 year old classes had the teachers wearing black on the stage directly the students. Most the children were looking at the teachers. There were no props and the stage was just terrible lighting. Such as pink backgrounds for pink dresses. Really??? At 6-7 yrs old at my daughter's old dance schools they knew the routines and performed them by themselves. read more

I've danced since the age of 2, so it was important to me that my daughter experience the best of what dance training can provide (learning poise, self-confidence, mastery of technique and self-expression). I also wanted to protect her from the potential dangers (nasty competition, unreasonable expectations and body dysmorphia). My daughter started attending Perfect Pointe just before turning two. A year later, she still loves going every week! Everyone we have encountered there has always been energetic, helpful, kind, and patient-a very important trait when dealing with toddlers! I read this other review by Amy S. about Perfect Pointe Dance Studio and cannot understand how they could rate this studio so low - unless they are doing it to grind an ax. My daughter has been attending Perfect Pointe since she was three. I am assuming that the mother that wrote the negative review was the same mother that I saw allowing her two children to terrorize the class that my daughter was in by pulling on the other children, pushing them around and not showing respect to the very well trained and professional instructors. If it is this same situation, I, and many other parents of the other children in the class applaud the PP staff for eliminating the constant distraction from this one family who pretty much made it a miserable experience for the rest of the attendees. Except for this one situation, the children that attend Perfect Pointe are very well mannered and seem to be great examples to each other of what well behaved children should act like - (way to go t the moms and dads that make them so). After this one family left the class, things went back to the wonderful dance world that we love - thank you Ms. Kendra for keeping your eye on providing a positive environment for the students. As far as Perfect Pointe: it has two very nicely designed studios that give the dancers a great chance to concentrate on the dancing. As I mentioned above, my daughter has been attending the studio for years, and loves it. And we have seen many families returning year after year and the classes are well attended, so they must be doing something right. The staff turn all of the ballet and tap (they teach other subjects too) terms and techniques into fun activities that eventually become a great end of year recital, which is a professional event in itself - very cool for parents and family to be able to attend. The staff is very open to assisting parents and students. We enjoy going to PP so much that I almost didn't want to leave this review to keep my hidden jewel to myself, but then after reading that other review, I had to at least set the record straight. If you are a parent that wants the best for your child and think that when your child attends a class that they deserve to be taught while they receive respect and have fun at the same time, this is the studio for you. If you are a parent that has a not so well behaved child, maybe you should consider finding another studio, please. Perfect Pointe has cool one week summer camps for many age levels (that's how we first found the studio years ago). PP has full year programs too. PP also has a competition team of dancers that appear to rank pretty well at competitions. PP has a very friendly and helpful staff. PP runs a recital for each class year. PP does class photos that you can order, but aren't required to order. PP is conveniently located next to a Harris Teeter, coffee shops, and other cool things that help pass time while your child is in class. PP is a middle/upper class dance studio (for lack of a better way to put it). The school culture is one of professional background combined with fun activities. PP also has a small dance store/ordering service to assist parents in getting reasonably priced dance items. And I am sure that I am missing something here, but if you go to their website or the dance studio, you will see the rest. read more

We are entering our third year at Perfect Pointe, and we could not be happier! My girls have had 2 teachers each year and have both loved it. We find the front desk busy in September with new registrations and near recital time, but other than that - it is always easy to have questions answered. We have tried several other studios in the area, and this is the one my daughters ask to return too. The perfect mix of learning in a relaxed atmosphere and fun! All teachers have been approachable and I was surprised at the vocabulary my younger daughter has come home with - proper names for steps! The recital 2 years ago was HOT - but that was an issue with the school - not the studio. We were only there for one year. I find their recitals well run because they are fairly short compared to other studios we have attended. read more

Perfect Pointe is a great place for an all-around dance education. Miss Kendra in particular cares about her students and families and goes far above and beyond to support them. She and the other teachers and staff promote the right attitude towards dance and provide excellent instruction. My kids' teachers have always been friendly, patient, and very talented. My daughters have taken ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, acro and modern classes here and have been members of the Competition Teams for several years. This is the first year that my two daughters started going to Perfect Pointe. They are 5 and 3 years old. I highly recommend this studio. The teachers are amazing, and great with the kids, and my two girls love going to their dance classes. They just did their first recital, and they had a blast, and we had a blast watching them. The studio is incredibly organized and they give you a detailed calendar at the end of the year. They provide recital music for all the classes on their Web page, which is very helpful. However, I've found the technical training of the teachers is not as strong as the training of the teachers at my daughter's previous studio (or at the studio I switched her to). The students are very recreational and they really don't have serious students who want to pursue dance professionally, which is fine for most students. This is a good studio for someone looking for something fun to do. However, if you want serious technical training, I would recommend ballet nova, adagio, or washington ballet. read more

First of all I should start by saying two things. I hate yelp. I have not been solicited to write this review. My daughter has been dancing here since she was three. She has had experiences with a lot of the teachers in the class or outside. She loves dance. Recently she found another sport which took her in another direction, but she continued dance classes. This year she tried out at ballet nova and was told she would need to be in three classes a week and she would still be one of the stronger dancers in the class. She would be dancing with girls maybe a year older but would be able to do a stronger ballet focus. I love ballet nova. I don't have three days a week. We decided to stay with perfect pointe even though the class times are not working as well with our schedule. We got in with Mr. Phillip. He has brought dance to the for front for my daughter and has revitalized her love of it. We are not into competitions so much as performance. It is frustrating when you get a little girl in your class that only is there for "baby sitting" My little girl(9 years old), can get frustrated with those kids as well, but still does her best. The recitals are long and can be frustrating if your judging the kids in the performances. Most of these kids will not be dancing as a career and most will never do another recital in their lives. I think perfect pointe has the right attitude to share the love of dance for the love of dance. It is not a high competition studio and I'm glad. I think people in this area should take a long hard look at their objectives in finding a dance studio. If you are looking to compete I think Abby is always looking. If you are wanting to teach your children the foundations and possible the love of dance, the stay. I know my daughter will get better each year, but it really know she will always look at dance favorably. This is not because of me, but because she has support from the entire studio. Her first day of class, she wanted to make sure she walked down to say hi to Alice. Alice in turn knows her and asks very specific questions in regards to her life. I love this studio. I thinks can get improved, but I think those do as time goes along and Kendra continues to work on them. If your daughter hates ballet, she hates ballet not because of THIS studio.
