It was the end of the year and you know what that means? Getting as many hotel points as possible…read moreso you can hold on to status/get bumped up in status. It's a silly game but it needs to be played. Before I used to go all out. Now, I go for the bare minimum. No use going in debt to have a made-up status. So, my usual MO is to look for a nearby area I haven't spent much time in and book a couple of nights in a hotel that's not going to break the bank. This way you get a new experience while performing the necessities of maintaining breakfast perks. I hadn't been to Hendersonville in years. So, Hendersonville it would be. Even off peak times during the holidays can be tricky, so I booked a beginning of the week stay. I'd read that parking can be tricky (and I didn't want the headache) so I took a rideshare to the hotel. First impressions: not bad. It looked decent from the outside. Second impression: woof. The desk clerk could have used some holiday cheer. She was neither pleasant nor helpful. Begrudgingly, she worked through my status script and sent me on my way. Third impression: ehh. A loud family was screaming (like, 3 members) in the hall a few doors down from me. Fourth impression: heebie jeebies. The desk chair was filthy, as in laden with crumbs (I texted the management who apologized after the fact but did not move me). Fifth impression: um, what? Multiple red streaks along the walls of the bathroom (along with handles falling out of the wall). What the actual... ? I should have gone home. Had I checked the bed and it was anything but pristine, I would have. The bed passed the check. I was there for two sleeps (and had arrived in the early evening). If I kept my socks on and only sat on the bed and checked the towels for cleanliness I could make it through. But reading the above as preamble to a hotel stay doesn't bode well. I made it through without any further incident thus the extra star. It's the holiday spirit. It was definitely not a comfortable stay.

Location Location Location…read more I was here on business and didn't have a car. This is a super walkable area. Pretty much everything you need is within easy walking distance. The biggest problem you'll have is deciding which place to choose. About every chain restaurant you can think of is nearby and a few independent restaurants too. There's a really nice Regal Cinema about a ten-minute walk from the hotel. Across the street, there's a nice park if you want to take a walk. The room was nice, comfortable and clean. My room didn't come with a microwave. That's a bummer, also, no safe, another bummer. The A/C unit made a slight knocking noise which I didn't notice until I was trying to fall asleep. The coffee setup in the room is clunky. It's a really small bag of coffee that makes very weak coffee and you have to tear open two bags to put it all together. Best to just go downstairs and get the coffee in the lobby. They can surely find a better way, or system to make in-room coffee. The walls are pretty thin for a hotel of this type. The room next door had a crying baby that cried on and off throughout the night. Other than that, I have no complaints. I didn't do the breakfast bar, but it's open from 6am to 10am. They also have coffee and hot water available in the lobby all the time. Nice! There's a nicely appointed gym on the first level, also a business center and a large lobby area with TV screens. This is a pretty nice place! There's no restaurant, but there are plenty of snacks and drinks you can buy, including beer, in the lobby. The staff is super nice! Big shout out to Kevin at the front desk. He is a great guy. You'll enjoy meeting him. You'll feel like you've made a new friend when you meet him. I would certainly stay here again if I'm ever in the area.

It also came with a coffee maker and had coffee and tea provided. The beds were extremely comfortable and came with 3 pillows. The service was excellent and the surrounding area felt safe. The only downside was that breakfast is not included and it's not your typical "buffet" breakfast. The hotel has a breakfast bar in which you pick what you want and pay extra for. We waited a little while for my dad's breakfast to be made and it was fine for what it was. Nothing to write home about, but certainly not gross or poor quality. Additionally, you are not given any extras. In the bathroom, you are given shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hand soap. Overall, the hotel and service were quite nice! I would definitely recommend getting breakfast elsewhere, but would stay here again!

If I could give this place negative stars I would…read more Traveling through town and had booked a room via Priceline. When we arrived (around midnight), we found a sign on the door stating that there were no rooms available even with a reservation. We buzzed in and the guy behind the desk said they couldn't honor any reservations because they were full. He then tried to blame Priceline saying that we had to call them because they are "notorious for this kind of thing." Thankfully, he offered to call around and see if he could get us another room. I said that would be great thanks, and he then told me the only place he was willing to call was 15 minutes away and they can't honor the Priceline price. I asked him to call anyway so he picked up the phone. He didn't dial or even put the phone to his ear and then placed it back on the receiver after about 20 seconds of just looking at us. We left and got our own hotel elsewhere. I'm not sure what's going on at this hotel or what the guy behind the counter was on, but I was disgusted. Take your business elsewhere!
