I was a long time customer of Inverness dermatology. The last couple of years have been really disappointing. I had a skin check scheduled 2 weeks after I had my 3rd baby. I showed up 2 weeks postpartum. I thought I was going to see my dermatologist (who I made the appointment with) but instead I saw a nurse practitioner who looked at me in disgust. When I asked her about skin tightening procedures (which I know they do) she again looked at my stomach that had a baby in it two weeks prior and said "honey you need to go to a plastic surgeon for that" Afterwards they sent in some skin person to try to sell me on an $800 skin care system. I'm now 9 months postpartum with my flat stomach that has some saggy skin. I'll go somewhere else to tighten it up if I decide to do that. read more

I really liked going there seeing DrMarks, UNTIL I saw the wicked Dr Jacobson. She took me off a medication without just cause and after faxing ok to take back and forth and still wouldn't give me back my refill, plus I spent close to $1400 that day! Couldn't wait on my bloodwork in a couple weeks. Bottom line I said I didn't want to see her again. Then they fired ME! Insane! I'm in my 60's and this is the first time a doctor fired me. Don't cross wicked Dr Jacobson or you may have to find yourself a new dermatologist too ! Bottom line: I can find a better dr! read more

I cannot stress enough how amazing this group is. I'm turning 30 years old this year. Dr. Jacobson found my melanoma last year in July 2022. I've came back for my 3 months. Every time they (Dr. Jacobson and Dr. Marks) take their time to check my body and listen to my worries/concerns. I'm so blessed to have providers that actually care and don't over look my concerns due to my age. I would usually get the "you're so young. You're fine." I cannot recommend them enough. Horrible customer service. I was concerned about a mole that had begun growing and tried for 2 weeks to get an appointment. I did as instructed and filled out all the paperwork and uploaded insurance information. When I called the front desk the receptionist was snippy. Called Naaman Dermatology Clinic and was seen in a matter of days for a spot in which they recommended biopsies - thank heavens I did not wait any longer for a call back from this clinic. I don't doubt the level of competency of any the dermatologists here (they have caught and removed several problematic moles on me), but I have not appreciated the way they have treated me. On more than one occasion, I have been told by doctors here, "Wow! You have a lot of moles!" To me, this is unprofessional and not how you should talk to a patient (who is already stressed out being there!). Compared to other dermatologists I have visited, their treatment methods seem a bit aggressive. I'm not saying don't go here, but if you don't like what you hear, don't be afraid to seek out a second opinion. I did--and I am no longer a patient here. read more

Dr. Jacobson, Mary Beth Templin, and the whole staff are just awesome. I found Inverness Derm through a trusted family member who had experience as a patient with this practice and have now been a happy patient for about 5 years. Before switching to Inverness Derm, I had been a patient at a large dermatology practice in the Highland Park neighborhood. After many years at that practice, my "Dr" would still come in the examination room and introduce herself to me as though we had never met before even though I have been seeing her every 6 months for several years!!! Between that unbelievably impersonal attitude and couple of other things I left and found Inverness Derm. Once there, I couldn't believe the difference in company (or practice) culture. The staff at the other practice was rude and very aloof... I think they were suffering under the illusion that they were God's gift to medical administration or something. It always felt like we patients were cattle being herded through the office. Not pleasant at all! Anyway, the staff at Inverness has always been very helpful, friendly, courteous, and prompt. I'd also like to say that the friendliness has been very consistent over the 5 years that I've been a patient. On my first visit, I saw Dr. Jacobson. She took a good amount of time speaking with me about my condition and gave me the recommendation she said she would "give to her niece". I appreciated her candor and knowing that she was giving me the same advice that she'd give to her family. Every visit I've had with Dr. Jacobson has been very positive. She's great. I've also seen the P.A., Mary Beth Templin, a number of times. She's very thorough as well, and very friendly. I've always felt very comfortable under her care. As I said above, the whole staff is great. I've been late to a few appointments over the time, and they've always graciously worked with me. Also, I've never had to wait over 20 minutes or so to be seen. Bottom line: Inverness Derm is great. If you need a dermatologist in Birmingham, this is the place! read more

I love Dr Jacobsen! I went for Botox first fall 2012, also had under eye filler ( has lasted 9 months and made me look 10 years younger! ) my Botox I repeated approx 6 mos later - I was amazed it lasted so long bc I went to a surgeon ( who advertises heavily in BHAM) I won't mention name but my Botox only lasted about 3 mos & was performed by a nurse ( I've found out that's not the way it's supposed to be done!) the surgeon also did my implants & I was pleased but I would never go to anyone else for Botox or fillers! Dr Jacobsen is very friendly and takes time to recommend the best filler for differing areas( I had filler in my lips, too - restyline , but under my eyes I think something else was used (?) I heard some people may dilute their Botox - thus the differing last times- I would HIGHLY recommend Inverness Dermatology- bc this Botox lasts longer than any I've used! Plus with the coupons I saved hundreds of dollars- she is always booked up so waiting 6 weeks isn't unusual , still I trust them, everyone in office is good, she is on TIME - no waiting which is rare with MD's in my experience!! I have never seen better prices and I think I read she is one of the top docs in B'ham!! ( btw- I am not a personal friend or have any connection other than client & very rarely write reviews- o one asked me to do this, either) I just lucked up buying a groupon and will drive from Mtn brook to Inverness rather than change to anyone else! Extremely disappointed. "Dr" Jacobsen has the WORST bedside manner I've ever encountered. I waited a month for an appointment to be greeted by a woman already in a bad mood who immediately tried to cut on me before even listening to the problem or answering any questions. When I told her I was not there for a procedure she threw stuff on the table and stormed out of the room leaving me and her assistant standing there with our mouths dropped open in disbelief. The worst part is after doing absolutely nothing but ruining my day she billed my insurance and sent me a bill for doing absolutely nothing! BEWARE!!! read more

My wife and I both use Dr. Beckum...she is one of the best. We both feel she is genuinely concerned about taking care of us....the last time we were there she said I was just thinking about y'all the other day....how many doctors think about their patients when we hadn't been there in six months...that's the typed of doctor she is....we feel like she treats us the same way she would treat her own parents. During the time we have been seeing her we have developed not only a very good doctor - patient relationship but consider her a friend. The staff is very friendly upon entry and the office is very clean and comfortable. However, whether you communicate via phone or email, the staff is very difficult to get in touch with to ask questions and takes several days if they even ever get back with you. Mainly, I was very disappointed in my experience with Dr Beckum as she was very unprofessional. She took two punch biopsies from my fiancé's arm and attempted not to sew them because "you're a guy, scars are cool." Once requested to please sew them, she only put in one stitch. The punches were still bleeding and open in areas and needed a second stitch. I asked for another and she said it was fine the way it was. Less than an hour later, the stitch came out and bled everywhere and now two large, raised, purple, round scars still remain months laters. As a cosmetic dermatology practice, I was shocked at this poor care and lackadaisical attitude. read more

I just had my third & last visit. Arrived 15 min before appt time & was called to the room 65 min past my appt time. Yes, 1 hour 20 min in the waiting room! But, I wasn't alone. The waiting room was packed. The physicians and medical staff are as expected. Nothing above normal and nothing below. A couple of the girls at the desk are "irritable" and not polite to the patients. Trying to reach the office by phone is difficult. They prefer to be contacted per email. Contradictory information is given regarding the costs of services and insurance coverage. Be sure to do your homework! I would have gotten significantly over charged if I had not known what my insurance covers. read more

Great Dr's, but staff is difficult! Regular patient of this group for several yrs. Be prepared for a long wait, especially first time patients. Parking impossible with the addition of new buildings in the area. Can only be reached by e-mail, phone is impossible. Most importantly, if you are ever told you have a "credit balance on account" make sure you get it in writing, and not verbally as staff will later deny and call it a "misunderstanding". read more
