I've never been to the studio and I don't have any clue about the classes they teach…read more But once a week I get a video from my 2 year olds daycare class where Helen is leading the class in interactive singing and dancing. It is the highlight of my workday when I get that video! Watching the joy and pleasure he gets from clapping, stomping and following her cues warms my heart. When he first started at daycare he was a bit shy and reserved and would often just stare at Helen not really participating. But now he's blossomed into a dancing & singing machine. Helen's warm, engaging and supporting spirit have helped him build his confidence and allowed personality his personality to shine! Seeing his development in the last 2-3 months has been amazing and fun. And I attribute a lot of that development to music class with Ms Helen. Now if only she could teach Mommy and Daddy some rhythm so we could keep up with him!

More support for the local arts!…read more For some odd reason, I thought Links Hall was closer to The Vic. Boy, was I way off. Does that matter?!? Not an itsy-bitsy bit! This studio is on the second floor of a narrow building, a few steps off of Clark, on Sheffield. If you sneeze, you can miss the joint. Does that matter?!? Heck, no! We ended up seeing a local dancer and her friend. Are they choreographers? No. Are they talented? Yes. Are there some parts of the show that can use improvement? Yes. Was the music great? Yes. Was I entertained? Yes. Would I support another "arts" performance here? Yes. What a great place to see events that may not have the opportunity to make it to a main stage, but still possess a lot of talent!

I would also imagine, that due to the size, it's more for local performances than larger scale ones. There's not much in the realm of food/beverage, though there was a water cooler (THAT WAS EMPTY BY THE TIME I GOT TO IT, BOO) to cool you off. Only downside of Link's Hall is that it gets WARM up in there. Pretty much the entire audience had taken off all the clothes they could by the time the performance was over.

Nana has a long history as a dancer and has studied Qi Gong in China. This is an exercise class that re-aligns and re-trains your body mechanics. The class improved my posture. Also, the movements and exercises strengthened my pelvic floor, which, as a mom, is an ongoing issue for me. She and the senior students are welcoming and encouraging. It's also in disrepair and the overall experience becomes quite affected by it. I've been twice - to watch Dante and Flamenco. Their ticketing system is quite lax and we found people sitting in rows/seats they didn't bug, creating chaos. We settled for a new option close by because people claiming our ticketed seats didn't want to relocate. The sound system was generally fine but there are some logistical challenges they faced for the flamenco performance.

I've volunteered for countless field trips for my 3 kids over the years and Cradles to Crayons is…read moremy personal favorites. My son's class came here to help sort thru the many many bags of donations they receive. I thought the staff at Cradles to Crayons did an amazing job explaining to a group of 3rd graders how this was an opportunity to help those less fortunate and love that they also got to help with the process. We spent a few hours sorting thru piles of clothing and dividing them into different categories (winter coats, girls short sleeve shirts, skirts to name a few). The kids had a lot of fun and even got a few chuckles when they came across things like bras and thongs, which were thrown in the "recycle bin." After a few hours of work they took a tour of the amazing facility, ate lunch and the Cradles to Crayon staff wrapped it up by praising them on their hard work! My son mentioned it was a super fun day and I think he enjoyed it more than the other field trips we've taken this year (ex: Chicago History Museum). I've now been here 3 times for field trips with my kids and each time I make a note that I need to come separately of school. This time I'm determined to make the time to donate my time to this amazing organization and great excuse to clean out my closets ahead of time to make a donation!
