We stayed at timber ridge hideaway near harpers ferry, Iowa. The cabin is beautiful. However, it's filthy and many things don't work. We rented it mainly for the pool for grandkids. Upon arrival we had to clean so the kids could crawl around. The pool was dirty, air vents clogged with dust, cobwebs everywhere, no smoke detectors, even black mold in the basement!! Such a shame that this beautiful cabin is being managed so poorly. Clearly, we won't be back. read more

My Family and I had a Large Family reunion and rented 3 beautiful Cabins from Iowa Cabin Rentals. We had over 20 in our group. The Cabins were all Super Clean and unique and furnished with nice furniture, amenities including Hot Tubs at every cabin which were awesome. The Owners Cory & were super Hosts and anticipated all of our needs and exceeded our expectations. We will definitely rent again from Iowa Cabin rentals. We wish we had read the reviews first. Now I wish that there was a way to rate aspects of this property as the stars would be varied. Though there were pros there were many cons. The location for "out of the way", practically in a state park with hiking, fishing and beautiful views was wonderful. The cabin was well built and at a cursory glance, well appointed. We enjoyed our family time together and truly winding down. The air conditioner worked perfectly, the campfire pit was great. The one amenity that wasn't mentioned in the specs was that the cabin at Whitetail Ridge has a washer and dryer, nice surprise. On to the cons. Booking was unprofessional and disorganized. Communication on that aspect was lax and frustrating. The $95.00 cleaning fee was unethical as I cleaned the space with paper towels and Clorox wipes, something sorely needed. The drawers were full of old food and paper plates etc., whatever had been left behind by former guest. Dust was crazy, dead bugs in light fixtures and others were in disrepair, some shades were broken and one was inadequate for the window size. The hot tub wasn't refilled in a timely manner so we lost a night of the 3 in it, plus we had to rush and get there to turn off the water as that was the text we did receive. The mattresses on the beds upstairs were cheap and uncomfortable. The bathroom doors didn't lock. The porch had many holes and breaks in boards that were covered with large stones or raised boards as a speed bump or tripping hazzard. The whole porch could have used a power hose. The so called swimming hole in back needs to be shocked with chemicals to make it appetizing to swim in. The outside was under construction with a huge pile of large stones right in the driveway, and janky snow fencing along the side. It would have been nice to have a heads up that the grounds around the cabin were under construction and that there are approximately 8 miles of gravel road you must drive on if you are coming from the north. We accepted all of this as we love just being together, but the one thing that left a particularly bad taste in our mouths was on our last night with the owners landscaper. At 7:30 pm when the campfire was just lit, dinner was being cooked and my husband and daughter were playing a game on the front lawn, he came buzzing up without a word or a nod and starting driving the mower like maniac all over the lawn. They picked everything up and ran for cover. When I looked out from all the noise the man was practically doing donuts. My hubby texted Cory the owner to let him know that this was not cool, (as per the instructions in the welcome book instructed us to report any dissatisfaction right away) and instead of an apology, the text we received told us he hires the mowing done and asked if we would complain if we were at a resort and employees were mowing and trimming the landscaping. To which my husband replied that he would if it were happening at 7:30pm. Then Cory offered an apology. We also felt calling the lawn man a landscaper was a stretch as the weeds hadn't been cut back or trimmed in weeks. The state of the cabin and grounds did not warrant the resort prices charged, if all had been completely in working order, spotless with comfy beds, $800.00 for 3 nights would have been worth every penny. All in all, if you are a neat freak or night life seeker, this place isn't for you. If you are looking for a quiet place a step above tent camping, this would work. read more

I wish I could give zero stars. We just returned from a MUCH needed and anticipated weekend away. There were 10 of us, 4 adults and 6 kids at Timber Ridge. Upon arrival, the smell in the lower level was sickening. It was a musty, dirty animal carpet smell, and a shattered television. We spent the first hour with gloves cleaning the place including disgusting light switches, dusty and dirty sinks, wiping bathroom floors, and cleaning the counters and table. Putting our own sheet on the shockingly disgusting mattresses made us want to turn around and leave, but we were in the middle of a snow storm and terrible weather, so we sucked it up and hoped for the best. The mattresses and covers were ripped, stained, and smelled. By the next day and all of the discoveries we made, we couldn't wait any longer to contact the owners. Per the contract we signed upon booking, they requested that any issues be addressed DURING the stay and not to wait until after we leave. I sent the owner the following message: "We have some significant concerns about cleanliness and sanitation. Despite layers of dust (even on the bathroom vanities), there are some other more pressing issues. The utensils in the drawers are mainly dirty. The drawers themselves are disgusting. Among the utensils we've found human hairs, dead bugs, sticky substances etc. The broken tv in the basement is a concern and the ceiling lights that flicker on and off make us fearful of electrical issues/fire. The king bedroom in the basement is missing a smoke detector which is unacceptable in our opinion, especially since that room has a portable heater. The carpets are absolutely filthy, and the smell when we arrived was very unappealing. The basement shower is so gross, we've all used the upstairs one instead. We were perfectly content in expecting rustic cabin, but literal filth and unsanitary conditions is such a disappointment. We've spent much of our time cleaning the spaces we absolutely need to use, and avoiding everything else. I will also send pictures." Pictures posted below, including the completely unprofessional and aggressive response from the owner. Lastly, we were promised that the driveway would be cleared first thing Sunday morning so that we could get our vehicles out and we waited almost an hour and a half after texting them. The owner then told one of us that the final confirmation mentioned that some vehicles are recommended to park at the top of the drive to avoid getting stuck which is absolutely not true. I looked through all of our correspondence and there is NOTHING stating that. We are sickened beyond belief, washing absolutely everything we took with us, and irritated that we paid a "cleaning fee" when we did all of the cleaning. Save your sanity, time and money and go somewhere else. read more

Upon our arrival at White Pine cabin in Lansing, Iowa we noticed the hot tub was filthy, the refrigerator was not working properly and the overall cleanliness was far less than par.   The rugs were filthy and one of the bathroom rugs was sopping wet, mouse poop in kitchen drawers, animal hair on furniture, etc. We notified Cory the next morning.  He was out that afternoon to empty the hot tub and check the fridge.  He said there would be a technician coming to check it, who never showed.  I did message Cory back about this with no response.  The fridge didn't work the entire stay and we had to use the back up in the basement garage which was a huge inconvenience!  By the time the hot tub was drained, cleaned, and refilled we lost a full day and a half of using it during our 4 night stay.  Once we checked out we made sure Cory knew how we felt about our stay, with absolutely no response.  On the other hand, the natural pool was pretty cool and the location and scenery was awesome!  Definitely would like to come back to the area! read more
