The outside was pretty cool with their signage and decor. Once inside, it was bigger than it appeared from outside. There were several tables both low and high top with lots of room to move. Many were playing card and board games while enjoying a beer. It was close to the end of the night on a Friday and they had a guy walking around with some pizza for sale right on site. Good deal! We tried 4 different beers and they were all pretty dang tasty. My personal favorite was the Greenbelt Trail Mile #4 (Hazy IPA). It had a lot of flavor and perfect for a hazy. I'd definitely visit 515 Brewing again when I'm in the neighborhood for a tasty beverage!

We had some seasonal beers and relaxed before heading back home in the wind. The "talking shit about a pretty sunset." Was a delicious wheat beer. They should add it to their normal offerings. This brewery has always offered some of the best brew in Des Moines. The location is really awesome and historical. They claim that is it haunted. So maybe you could get some boos and brews! Lol! The female bartender tried to serve someone else first; the customer told them I was there before them. The male bartender never said a word to me. They never checked back in, never asked if I'd been there before, but seemed to embrace their regulars. I left after one and probably will not return...unfortunate, as the blood orange wheat I had was delicious. Crisp, full flavor with a clean finish.

The handcrafted drinks are excellent, the prices are very reasonable, and it is hard to beat enjoying cocktails made with Iowa-made spirits. This trip I had the Revolver for $9, and Kim had the Porch Swing for $8, I believe. Both were great. The people working there are honestly fantastic. They are attentive, friendly, and somehow keep smiling even when the place is slammed and the occasional loud customer is barking at them. That takes skill, patience, and maybe a little magic. It is a great local business with a fun vibe, good drinks, fair prices, and staff who make the stop even better. We will absolutely keep coming back when we ride through Cumming, and in the meantime we will keep buying their products from local stores in Ankeny too. Great job, Iowa Distilling Company.

The outside is well kept also. There isn't any garbage or cigarette butts spread around. The staff is always really helpful and pleasant to talk with. They've even offered to order something that they don't usually carry. Any time we call, they're kind and helpful on the phone and have offered to hold the specific bottle we were asking about until we arrived from Ames.

Very clean. Cute merchandise and free popcorn. Many tables inside, couches and a loft area with seating too. You could also go outside on the deck and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Prices were very reasonable. And when we couldn't figure out an 8th cider for our flights they let us have a tiny sample. They do have crackers and meats and cheeses for purchase for snacking too. Outside there are 2 sand volleyball courts and a stage. They are closed for the season but have special dates they are open for pop up events, today 11/22/25 was their Bottle Extravaganza where all bottles were $1 off! We left with 3 bottles. Love the atmosphere here! We will definitely be coming back!
