I had a very frustrating experience with this office. My hematologist sent a referral for me to be seen, but instead of being contacted by the referral team, I received a MyChart message stating that I could not be accepted as a patient because I had previously been "seen" by another GI provider. The only prior interaction I had was a colonoscopy where the physician read the results -- I never had an office visit or established an ongoing provider relationship. When I called for clarification, I was told by the front desk that a colonoscopy counts as "establishing care" and that the practice does not do second opinions. This explanation should have come from the referral team or a clinical staff member, not the receptionist. The process felt dismissive and poorly handled, especially since the referral came from a specialist. A clearer explanation and more professional handling of referrals would go a long way in improving patient experience. read more

I had been a loyal patient at this GI office for over 4 years, treated for Cyclic Vomiting Disease , Crohn's disease, and IBS-C. Recently, I had a gastric emptying study that showed severe gastroparesis. Despite the seriousness of the results, no one scheduled me for a follow-up appointment. I was simply told my provider was out until January. When I reached out for guidance, I was told to "change my diet," even though I had already done so and can barely eat without severe pain. Instead of providing actual care, they decided to refer me to Mayo Clinic, even after I had explained that my insurance would not approve it without an OON referral. I ended up getting notified that they could not do an OON referral after a week and my PCP needed to do it. I ended up getting a call from Mayo stating they couldn't see me without me paying $5,000 up front due to no insurance verification. This left me searching for anyone in Iowa that could see me and being told over and over again my case is too severe to be seen in Iowa. I tried to advocate for myself by calling IDDC to ask if I could speak with any provider about next steps. After waiting two days with no response, I called again. I was transferred to a manager who lectured me and claimed that simply asking to speak with a different doctor meant I was "firing my GI", I just received a termination of care letter. This is absolutely unacceptable. I am now left scrambling to find a new GI provider while facing the possibility of going without my Crohn's medication for a year or more, which could realistically result in a hospital admission, losing my intestines and ending up with a colostomy bag, or even death. This office showed zero compassion, zero urgency, and zero accountability while I'm managing conditions that are life-threatening if ignored. As long as you like that you are just a number /annoyance to the people that work here . This office is total chaos . I have always waited over an hour for on time appointments . This place is so busy you can't even get through when you call . So they pretty much use patient portal . They don't have any Drs. that actually see you ever unless your getting scoped or have cancer. so basically you are nothing to them . I had to go to Mayo Clinic as the diagnosis and treatment they gave me were completely wrong diagnosis and were doing much more damage to my body . I suffered 3 years with their treatment sadly . Went with a family member and waited an hour later than the appointment time before she even was seen. Not to mention the nurse was dismissive and rude when I asked questions when they were all done. Already left a review. Awaiting my final disability approval at age 38 for which Dr. Verma is 100 percent responsible for. Doctors are suppose to have compassion and care for all patients not look at their past and decide to treat them accordingly making themselves judge and jury on who deserves their help. Laying in bed suffering unnecessarily for over a year with how sick she knew I was is unacceptable and I will do my best to make sure nobody ever goes through what I have ever again. Stay away from Dr. Verma and IDDC- all the reviews I see on reception I'm sure the one that yelled at me and hung up on me if she still has a job I find that extremely baffling but never have i been treated and judged like Dr Verma did and she didn't even attempt to hide it. And my life is forever changed because of it. If you can't care and have compassion for any patient that walks in your doors looking for desperate help have the heart to help them or find a new career,I know everyone I've ever known would go anywhere else after all they saw me endure and still have to endure today. I'm 38 she took huge parts of my life away permanently without apology from her or from anyone at IDDC. Dr. verma was my GI & hepatalogist. I liked her fine until she learned I had been an alcoholic(was sober then still am over 3 yrs) and I got really sick after sporadic attacks & episodes since 2018 that got worse 24/7 in 2022 & when she learned my history it was all she blamed & I felt more like a convicted criminal instead of a patient of hers that continued getting way worse. Her, misdiagnoses, or bias push back to listen to anything I would say as well as how she intentionally ignored multiple imagings that I had done that nearly all pointed to gallbladder & despite the fact I had every symptom saying because it didn't show in blood when I informed her it didnt show when my liver was an issue or when I had full blown appendicitis either which I learned after my fiance watched helplessly as I went from an active cleaning business owner to losing at least 15 pds & eventually noticable changes in skin color and yellowing eyes, I have pictured and witnesses to all this. That's when I went from a few attacks and struggles with it a week to the onset of what ended up being at least a year long attack where I became 100 percent bedridden on a heating pad unable to eat or move, always extremely and violently sick my fiance took me to ERs, appointments urgent cares multiple times a week. I also had an appt with someone I believe she must have worked with named Dr. Chandani who I had never seen before she was working the urgent care I was at because that's where my primary physician is and before introducing herself or saying hi she came in and said it your in this much pain why didnt you ask the digestive doctor for medication, my primary asked me to go there to speed up the progress of imaging we had been waiting weeks for. I learned later they worked together so being id never even met this doctor I don't know why she would know information about me and mention dr. Verma. My fiance went to the last endoscopy she ever gave me she gave me more tests and endoscopies and colonoscopies at 38 then most have in 5 lifetimes especially when all imaging for years as well as myself and other doctors said imaging said gallbladder. My husband heard all the problems I was having with the doctor and watching me be glued to a heating pad in bed for that long so sick he wanted answers so after the endoscopy he asked her what other reasoning would cause all the symptoms the sickness dramatic weight loss yellowing skin and in eyes... Her exact response was " well I guess it's because she finally quit drinking at that point I was at least a year sober. I never saw her again but not long after I was hospitalized a second time, thank God the surgeon on call does his job and opened my file to see so many repeated normal tests and then a hida scan verma ordered that was marked normal that he said was not normal at all and with that all the documented imaging and the fact ive had every other test more than once and those were normal my gallbladder was getting taken out and finally July 30 2024 it was removed and biopsy plus what the surgeon saw I wad diagnosed with having had chronic cholecystitis all along. I've been through emergency medical trauma 4 times but this is the only time my suffering was not accidental it was a prejudice against my past and a doctor that didnt care or believe me or even try to even be nice to me. I tried returning the the business I owned almost a decade a cleaning company but after surgery my lower back wasn't right my first day back to work I couldnt bend and then stand.. after iowa city and local neurologists and specialist because I went from being very active especially in my line of work to having to be in bed suffering for a year at least it caused arthritis degenerative disks spacing issues bulging discs that is affecting my sciatica and although multiple surgeons have tried they cant come up with a way to fix it. 38 cant stand or walk longer than 10 minutes without excrutiating pain or stand for 3 worship songs at church either. Not to mention the mental health treatment and problems I still am dealing with mainly from medical trauma PTSD from the 3 prior medical ACCIDENTS then to be left to suffer like I didn't matter because of my past like she didn't care at all. When I told her about it she never once even tried to apologize and the receptionist at the time hung up on me saying Dr. Verma wouldn't ever do those things. At first I would have said the office and most of the staff is great but please stay clear of Dr. verma. I will suffer the rest of my life. And even knowing that not a single person from this establishment has cared enough to apologize for all I went through. Like I said I have messages I have my fiance who witnessed it I have my family who saw my weight and discoloring and sickness and how bad it really was. I hope someone reads this and chooses somewhere else.. ALL human beings deserve to be treated better than I was and never go through this! read more

I have gone to Dr. Myneni for a very long time and have paid every bill. Last year I was experiencing vitamin deficiencies. Dr. Myneni ordered a capsule scope to assess. Months down the line the procedure was denied by insurance indicating the coding was not authorized as a medically necessary procedure. I called numerous time trying to get them to correct it so it would be approved or rationale why it wouldn't be approved. Their office does not reply. Here I am a year later and its in collections. It's a big bill. I've called several times even trying to ask specifically for the doctor, instead they told me the CEO would call me back. Nope. I don't think Dr. Myneni would order a medically uneccessary procedure and would imagine that their billing department messed this up and is afraid to get in trouble for it? I can't believe the lack of acknowledgement from the billing department. read more

A couple of the doctors are amazing. Dr Verma for one. However, the nurses, nurse mgrs, and sometimes the front desk are absolutely horrible. Condescending, rude, attitudes, talking down to people. Been there myself and with multiple family members. Observed it on more than 1 occasion. Crazy how a clinic tolerates their employees to act that way to their customers. If their doctors weren't good I would figure they'd be closed by now because no one wants to be around those other employees. read more

Everything went well- when I discussed my reason for the testing that day. I mentioned that my mom had been diagnosed with lynch syndrome and they immediately perked up and made sure I understood that there was additional steps and testing for me to follow up on such as generic testing etc. it was also determined that based on my age and moms age no matter what we found today - we would need to do a scope at least every 2 years. They're okay, I guess, if you don't have a medical condition. If you do, stop wasting your time and go to University of Iowa. I have complex health issues, and I knew that my case was not the most straight forward medical issue one could have. However, by the end of my care with IDDC, I was no longer a patient. I had become a number, on a sheet of paper, and that's never an okay thing to happen. When I got to the University of Iowa, I didn't need any new testing or lab work, because the doctor there could look at test results, my symptoms, my medical history, and come to the conclusion that I have a rare gastrointestinal disorder, that is secondary to a genetic disease I have. If my provider didn't want to manage a complex medical case, I should have been referred elsewhere. If my provider was unable to manage complex medical cases, I should have been referred to another provider or elsewhere. If my provider didn't like me as a patient, I should have referred to another provider or elsewhere. Instead, I was gaslit, told that "there was no evidence" to suspect I have the GI problems I have, and that there was no further treatment options available, in my case. After seeing, and getting the corrected diagnosis from the University of Iowa, I tried to have a conversation with the clinic's director or management. I wanted to open a line of communication, so that other patients don't spend almost 3 years building a medical relationship, only to be gaslit and unable to get help. I have given IDDC almost a month to respond, review my chart, and get back to me, so that other patients don't have to deal with the gaslighting, which is emotional abuse, I received. Since no one will respond to my request for a phone call, I am forced to leave them a bad review. Overall, this is not a bad medical practice, IF your case is easy, like a colonoscopy or endoscopy. When a case turns more complicated, I guess it was easier to ignore the patient, only see a number, and not rely on any clinical findings, the actual patient is having. I spent an extra year, in vomiting hell, simply because IDDC wouldn't think of me as more that a number! I should've been sent over to University of Iowa 18 months ago, when I wasn't able to eat anything, that wasn't frozen or a liquid for almost 4 months, and was ambulanced, to the hospital twice, because I had spent over 3 hours vomiting. If you need complex help, you'll need to find it elsewhere, because this clinic only offers help to patients, with easy issues! read more

I went in today for a colonoscopy, this would was the 2nd one I have had in my life. Everything was going good, the nurses were nice and fun to talk too. I did have to wait for the Doctor to arrive. The Doctor arrived and came in to the room wearing a summer jacket and me who he was, and basically told the nurse to start giving me meds to knock me out. Well, before I knew it I was awake and the Doctor was still doing the procedure. I was in so much pain and I told the people in the room that it was hurting really bad and to please stop. I then heard him telling me that I needed to relax, and I again told them I was in pain and it was hurting really bad, and again I was told to relax, I asked them again to stop. The next thing I recall was waking up and my wife telling me that they could not continue because I was not relaxing, needless to say I am furious! All that prep, and all the time that went in to this was done for nothing, just because they could not keep me knocked out, how the HELL are you going to relax when you are having severe pain like that? They recommended that I reschedule and have it done at the hospital and get it done under anesthesia and that was it and they told me I could leave. First thing I did when I got home was call my Doctor and tell her I was done and never getting this procedure done again and there was no way that I was going to go under anesthesia just for this, because the 2 times that I have been under anesthesia, they have had a heard time waking me up and my recover rate is long. I also want to add, that I was told they were very busy and the doctor had 15 colonoscopies to do that day, so I feel that's why they pretty much pushed me out of the place because I was taking too much time. My wife said when the Doctor talked to her, he pretty much blamed the failure on me, so again I was very upset! The Doctor who did this was Doctor O'Brien. He seemed like a nice guy and I am not saying stay away from him or anything like that, I am just telling you what happened to me, but as I said, I will NEVER have one of these done again and my Doctor was not happy with what happened. read more

The release of labs in a timely manner were not satisfactory as a critical lab was not followed up on for 6 days since lab draw. It is understandable with a weekend but 6 days should be unacceptable as this puts patient safety at risk. Additionally the provider did not provide patient with empathy or understanding leaving patient with a feeling of being unheard with the voicing of concerns. The office needs some training on what it means to make patients feel they are the top priority as patient care should be the #1 goal. The experience here resulted in negative patient outcomes and there has been care received elsewhere due to this. I'm sure some providers here are good but know if you feel unheard or dismissed there are other options. read more

The facility is top notch, clean and very professional yet you get the "personal" touch, not just in one door and out the other, your not just a number. During a hospital stent for the Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome & Sever Gastroparesis an IDDC Hospitalists (NOT doctor Lopes) came in & started off accusing of Meth use! I was outraged & told the Hospitalists they were ignorant & to leave if they were to continue in such a manor. When I called the office to set up an appointment with the doctor I was advised 'Care could no longer be provided because I fired the provider.' Fired the Hospitalists for accusing me of using Meth - when all blood tests proved the falsehood of the accusation, still I am punished because of the Hospitalists' ignorance & personal beliefs' toward the C.V.S. illness. If I could give them 0 stars I would. Terrible! Scheduled an appt for an issue I was having and spent more time with the nurse asking me tons of questions. The PA came in and asked me a couple same questions and then did NOTHING, no exam of any kind and said bottom line you need a colonoscopy - which had nothing to do with why I went there. Oh and by the way it will now be diagnostic My cost was going to be over $1,000. I went to the Iowa Clinic and got a routine colonoscopy 100% paid for by my insurance and I still have the issue I initially went for. I paid over $100 for a waste of my time visit. 0 Stars is more like it. I had an appointment after going to the hospital for over a month now and they called to cancel it then didn't want to get me in for another 8 days beyond that. There was no sympathy for me as their patient no matter what was going on with my health. Canceled appointments by the doctor should get a higher priority in scheduling. Diane, who i was told was the office manager but according to zoom info is only a staff RN, was apathetic and down right rude. If there wasn't a wait at other GI doctor offices then I would go elsewhere but they know that the patient is stuck to bending over backwards for them. For anyone considering a GI doctor I would start going elsewhere in the beginning so you don't have these issues. read more

I needed some serious help and was referred here by multiple hospitals and doctors from Des Moines and Colorado who specialize in my sort of injury. I saw two doctors at this clinic about three weeks ago that told me to just continue what I've been doing the last 5 months(stool softeners). I have now gone 12 days without a bowel movement and have left multiple messages for Dr. Page's nurse, Shelby. No response. I talked to the CEO over the phone and had the same experience. I'm 20 years old, and I thought I'd be able to get more help than what I've looked up on my own and learned. Had an appointment in 2014. At that time they verified I was covered by Medicaid. Now I've found out it was sent to collections. The billing manager, Sarah, CEO Meridith Westbrooke, and supposed owner of clinic, Ravi Vemulapalli, all refuse to remove it from collections despite the fact that I have proof from Medicaid showing I was covered at the time of the visit. Sarah is incompetent. She initially refused to look at my letter from Medicaid stating I was covered. Sarah also told me at one point that they didn't own the account and they couldn't do anything about it. I talked to the collection agency and they informed me that is not true. Sarah lied to me in an attempt to blow me off. Meridith Westbrooke doesn't want to hear about it and just repeats what Sarah tells her. Ravi Vemulapalli is rude about it. He insists I owe the money despite having proof that I don't owe them a dime. Had the same billing issue with Iowa Pathology and once I showed them proof I was covered at the time of my visit,they took care of it the same day. Why won't IDDC take care of it like any other clinic would? Because they are money grubbing scum. Money is more important to them then doing what it right. I have never dealt with such rude, incompetent people in my entire life. These people are off the charts with rudeness and incompetence. read more

Iowa DDC has been amazing during the not fun process of having major stomach issues, Doctor Newton and all of the nurses have been fantastic and making me feel comfortable and get a plan of action to get me feeling better! If you have any digestive concerns I would highly recommend Iowa DDC! They have been fantastic and work directly with the endoscopy center! Took my husband for his first colonoscopy. I knew during our first interaction with staff that it was going to be an experience. As the woman at the desk began our intake she had to drop everything with us so she could sign for the doctors new car that was being delivered. We then proceeded to wait an hour after his scheduled time before they took him back. While waiting staff was in and out barking names of people. You had no idea if they were calling for the next patient or the person there to drive someone home. I waited in the waiting area for over an hour and when I was taken back to man husband he was more awake than when we walk through the door. He then proceeded to tell me everything that happened and that it was very painful. He even questioned whether he was even given the sedation. He remembered every polyp they removed. He said when he told the Dr he didn't think the sedation took effect the Dr just told him, "you're okay" and to "stop flinching". The professionalism and compassion was non existent and his request and concerns where met with dismissive comments. My Dr wants me to go there for my colonoscopy, I will definitely look into another facility. read more

I would like to caution people about getting involved with this clinic. In my opinion, the CEO and the clerical staff are not professional in the least. I have no problems with my doctor there, Dr. Stacey Roberts, mind you, as she has done a very nice and complete job with any medical procedures she has done for/on me. However, getting things right by the clerical staff seems to be too much to ask. Recently, getting a Covid test, the clinic made a mistake that cost me concern, time, worry, and money. I was afraid of not being able to get the test done that day and the results on time for my procedure. My procedure had already been cancelled once, mind you. Because I was unhappy about an error made by the clinic that caused a problem at the testing site, and expressed the same, the clinic ended our relationship. Are you kidding me? Medical offices need to remember that they are not perfect; that patients have serious concerns at times like this. Patients are the lifeblood of medical offices; not the other way around. From the other reviews on this site, it appears that other people are unhappy with this clinic as well. I hope they have joined me in reporting this office to the Iowa Medical Board, the BBB and every other possible related governing organization. read more

dr. o'brien is literally the worst. doctor. everrr!!!! no compassion at all, and his nurse, kristy, is just as uncompassionate as they come!!!! they do not care about poor people at all!!! noelle mundt is also the worst nurse practitioner out there!! i was in an extremely serious car crash that has caused me numerous abdominal/digestive issues and they have done nothing but dismiss me, then dropped me as a patient because i spoke up for myself!!! i found out 7 months after the crash, after pestering noelle to do a ct scan for 3 or 4 months because of my stomach pain/daily nausea/vomiting, etc., that i was born with congenital intestinal malrotation and was told two days after getting my ct results that my stomach and small bowel are not even attached and not one of these idiots will take that seriously!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wtf, right??? she suspected this condition months before but played like she had no idea. i have all the notes between her and dr. maakapati with wdsm ob/gyn and they both suspected it but made me beg for answers!!!! dr. maakapati's husband works for iowa digestive so tell me there isn't something shady with the lack of proper care going on between the two offices??!! they're not done with me yet, though!!!! js!! read more
