She was close to my age and from Georgia, which is crazy because my best friend just moved there! My mother initially had a tumor that we were told was non-cancerous. She underwent approximately six months of chemotherapy and radiation. Within months afterward, her condition deteriorated dramatically, and the tumor was later found to be cancerous and had spread throughout her body. At her next major follow-up, we were devastated to hear that there was nothing more the doctors could do to save her. To this day, our family is left questioning whether the original treatment plan was the right decision and whether surgery to remove the tumor earlier should have been considered more seriously. We will always wonder whether a different approach could have given my mother more time with us. Another major concern was the teaching-hospital environment. There were often students or trainees involved alongside doctors. I understand that future doctors need to learn, but when your loved one is seriously ill, you need to feel completely confident that every decision is being made and supervised by highly experienced specialists. Instead, there were times when we felt like my mother was part of a learning process rather than receiving the individualized, senior-level attention her condition deserved. The waiting times were also extremely frustrating. A cancer patient going through chemotherapy and radiation can become incredibly weak and exhausted, yet there were occasions when my mother had to wait far too long to see the doctor. For a hospital with Stanford's reputation and the enormous cost of treatment, families should expect better communication, greater compassion, better time management, and much more attention to the patient's comfort. We went to Stanford believing we were taking my mother to one of the best medical institutions available. Instead, we were left with heartbreak, unanswered questions, and the feeling that her treatment and overall experience could have been handled very differently. No family should ever leave a cancer center wondering whether different decisions might have saved their loved one. I strongly encourage families to ask questions, seek second opinions, understand every treatment option--including surgery when appropriate--and make sure they are completely comfortable with the medical team and treatment plan before proceeding.

A little over two years ago, just when I thought I was out of the woods, I was diagnosed with a stage 3 tumor on my left kidney. The surgery to remove the tumor and my left kidney happened pretty fast, and I needed infusion therapy after that surgery. My primary care physician arranged for me to see Dr. Colocci, and she has become a guardian angel since I first met her two years ago. I found her to be sincerely committed to my post-op care... someone who walked beside me as I faced the possibility of my cancer spreading to other organs. It became abundantly clear, she cares about her patients. I saw Dr. Colocci every six weeks while I received immunotherapy treatments. It was reassuring to hear say the treatments were working as advertised. After a couple of PET scans, she was confident that if any cancer appeared on subsequent scans, it could be eliminated quickly. After two additional scans showed nothing suspicious, as a result of Dr. Colocci's care, I am feeling confident that my kidney cancer now does not pose the threat I initially feared. I have one more PET scan scheduled this summer, then Dr. Colocci may be able to start annual monitoring of my condition. I am very happy with Dr. Colocci being my oncologist. She is super professional, and she has a friendly, easy-going manner. While visits with an oncologist can be stressful, I find meeting with Dr. Colocci is much like seeing a good friend... she makes any anxiety melt away. I trust her. After a long career, you'd think someone would understand the pain associated. Instead, she is desensitized, expects her patients to feel the same, and no longer takes her job seriously. Does not show compassion or understanding, but is happy to prescribe whatever drugs, despite the negative side effects. She is incapable of correctly diagnosing or thinking outside of the box whatsoever. Kushlan and her team failed to accurately evaluate a patient, failed to predict jaundice, and prescribed overpriced medications that cause liver damage(!!!) in a person with liver cancer. To put the cherry on top, she delayed processing of documents, despite a crucial diagnosis, and even told Stanford that the family was not seeking treatment without any basis whatsoever. And especially, if your family member has pancreatic cancer, find someone else.

Her office called me to see if I could come in earlier for my appointment. I said I could. I showed up about 20 minutes before my appointment and checked in. By the time they called me back to the room and Dr. Ching came in to see me, an hour and a half had already passed. Dr. Ching is an excellent physician and is extremely thorough. But the wait times to see her are very long. Expect to spend a minimum of an hour wait time before seeing her in a patient room. Bring reading material and snacks because it's going to be a long visit.

He first harmed my wife by telling her he did not have medicine or treatment for her and asked my wife just wait to die on the bedside while we were celebrating my wife's birthday and my wife felt so energetic and happy before he came toward her. Secondly he told my wife to look outside on the rainy New Year day and he said to my wife that it might be the last rain you could see. It was totally unethical for any doctor to say this to a cancer patient.
