Well. I had an insurance change and got treated like royal crap. Had the receptionist call me twice saying I'll need to pay as soon as I walk in. Done. No problem. Haven't seen Dr for a couple years due to other health issues. Cancer. Didn't even look me in the eye, went on and on about how much this is going to cost me. Suggested I go to a county hospital. Half ass exam. Not returning and I will be getting a second opinion. Bedside manner goes a long way. Shouldn't say "this is not good" while ultrasound was going on. Rushed me out. This review is honestly long overdue. I have nothing but positive things to say about Dr. Serrato and her receptionist, Jenny. I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility for 2 years. After a long 2 years, I was recommended by a friend to rule out or diagnosis possible endometriosis. My first initial consultation with her she did a ultrasound which found no endo (even an mri can't pick it up), then sat with me afterward to go over my symptoms and her recommendation for a robotic laparoscopy surgery. Like other surgeons in this field, she informed me that endometriosis is one of the highest misdiagnosed disease of infertility. 50% of women with unexplained infertility, have endometriosis. She gave me all the information needed to know about steps moving forward if I chose surgery. I decided to go for it, and was booked for surgery just 6 weeks later. I had the robotic laparoscopy in February of 2024. We found that I have stage 3 endometriosis which was all over my left ovary, behind my uterus, and near my rectum. 3 months after surgery & 2 months of trying, we got pregnant naturally! She made surgery seamless and allowed for a fast and healthy recovery. Her team at the hospital was amazing and I felt completely taken care of and trusting with her exceptional surgical skills. I was recovered within a week, and by 2 weeks I felt completely back to normal & better than ever! Dr. Serrato was recommended by another health professional. I saw her reviews and saw that she is a very skilled surgeon. I've had two 2 well-woman visits with her. Each time I was very perplexed by her lack of interest, aloof manner, and poor bedside manner. I kept reviewing the visit and questioned my negative responses. She conducted a painful gyn exam without any instructive support. I believe that surgery is her main interest and forte . Based on my own experience as a health care professional, she is not interested in health maintenance of a post menopausal woman. She should limit her practice to surgery. My appointment here was a few months ago but still weighing very heavy on me. I can't express how disappointed I am with the care I received here when it's such an intimate appointment that you should feel comfortable during. I read the amazing reviews so I called the office to make a routine annual check up appt with Dr. Serrato, the first available time was 3 months later, I booked it and have been patiently waiting until my appointment. I arrived a few minutes early to my appointment, the front desk staff is not friendly but I just went with it. There is no information given on payments or how to get results from any testing being done on your visit either. You have to ask even if they know it's your first time in the office. Now on to Dr. Serrato. I waited in the exam room for about 25 minutes. She comes in, there is absolutely no small talk or welcome to her office. Straight to business. Are you sexually active? Is your partner male or female? Are you married or single? Are you vaccinated? Do you want to get pregnant soon? I answered all her questions and followed up with "have you noticed any issues with becoming pregnant and having a healthy baby with being vaccinated?" Her response - "yeah, you don't get sick and die.... " what kind of answer is that? So rude especially because I am vaccinated and expressed having children in the future. I then asked if she could give me more information on what I should do in order to prepare for pregnancy when I get closer to wanting be pregnant, she then said she'd give me a print out after my visit. That's it. Then she starts the exam, isn't talking to me at all, isnt walking me through what she is doing, doesn't ask me if I am in pain- NOTHING and for the record, it was very uncomfortable but I didn't feel like I could say anything. When I think she is done, she isn't and just moves on to the next step. I don't want to describe it in detail as it may be too graphic but for those that have gotten a Pap smear, you will know. Please keep in mind that this is all being done in complete silence. Let's just say I walked out of my visit bleeding and did not walk in that way. She finishes the exam, starts putting everything away. No feedback on if everything looked normal until I see she is walking out so I asked her as she was walking out. Total time spent with me was less than 5 minutes. It was so terrible. I don't understand how she has all the great reviews. I came home and was so shaken up by the whole experience. I've had many gynecology appts and have never experienced anything like that. I really don't recommend coming here. I had Dr. Serrato as my Obgyn. I thought she was a pretty quick in and out kind of doctor. I had a miscarriage and had trouble getting pregnant afterward. I asked her what we should do and she said there's nothing I can do to help you. That may be true, I don't know, but I just felt like she didn't have too much compassion. Later I switched to a different Obgyn. Afterwards there was a time where I had to do a d&c and Dr Serrato actually was the doctor they gave me. She did a good job. Later on she also did my myomectomy because I was told she was a pro at it. She did a good job again. I was referred to Dr Serratto by my Primary Physician. I've seen her three times for my annual exam. I feel her bedside manner is pretty cold and very brisk for such a vulnerable experience. I cannot speak on anything else as fortunately, I haven't had any complications. I did feel dismissed when asking about perimenopause. No information or referrals to find information at all. Its hard to get a response when trying to get an appointment, either by phone or through the website. When you do schedule one - there's always a long wait. I have been a patient of Dr. Serrato for almost 20 years starting at the age of 18 and through giving birth to 3 babies and beyond. She is truly the best. She is not only kind, honest, and professional but she always made me feel a part of the team and decision making process during my care which was so comforting. Update- The Doctor was clear on what drug would be used prior to surgery and there was no 'misinterpretation' as suggested by her response. Really disappointed in my consultation with Dr Claire that left me in tears. Besides her horrible bedside manner (no pleasantries or simple personal questions) she recommended some things that no other doctor I consulted with had. I had fairly large fibroids and after her ultrasound she told me I was 'high risk' bc of the placement of my fibroids and that the only way she could operate on me was if I either took a chemical castration drug or did UFE. When I asked about the drug she said 'it's no big deal, you'll only be on it for 3 months.' No big deal?!? Anyone who does basic research on this drug will see that there are many possible negative side effects to this drug. She continued to say that she's done 1000's of these surgeries and I'm extremely high risk. I was in a complete panic after our visit. Thankfully I found a surgeon who did my surgery robotically with absolutely no use of a chemical castration drug or UFE. My surgeon assured me that I wasn't high risk and she could do the surgery pretty easily. She was right- I'm 2 mpo and feeling fantastic. I had a horrible experience with Dr. Serrano. I was referred to her by my primary doctor. I looked at her credentials and they seemed impressive. I wish I had read the 1-star yelp review comments before I went because I could totally relate to those people's experiences. Seeing a gynecologist is a very vulnerable experience and Dr. Serrano absolutely made me feel worse than before I walked into the office -- Cold, complete lack of empathy, hurry to finish the job and get out, lack of feedback, and lack of care. She was in and out of the room within 10 minutes, didn't fully explain my condition and just told me to go back in 4 months. I was sitting there half naked, confused, and in shock. I asked her more questions to clarify but she wouldn't even properly turn around to answer while walking to the door. Totally unprofessional. I was completely shaken up by the whole experience. I'm writing this comment here hoping other women won't have to go through this. 5 stars easily. Dr. Serrato is great at what she does and treats you like a person. For certain female issues, surgery is not a one-and-done event; you're in it for the long haul. I feel like I've found a long-time provider and collaborator in Dr. Serrato. She performed endometriosis excision and ovarian cyst removal surgery on me several months ago. I've since totally recovered and met with her twice for post-op appointments. When it came to choosing a physician, I wanted someone who was not only technically capable but who made me feel comfortable. She was the third doctor I'd met and third who performed a diagnostic ultrasound. She was the only one to locate my left ovary which, unbeknownst to me, had been almost entirely resected during an emergency operation many years ago. (Others who'd performed an ultrasound simply said they couldn't locate my left ovary). When she described treatment, she offered a multifaceted approach that included dietary changes and medication options. She was thorough, empathetic and seemed to cover 10x more in the same amount of time as others. I'd seen enough to know she was the one and booked my surgery with her immediately (which, I might add, she was able to do from her phone -- while other offices would've put me through some hoops before scheduling). Other good stuff. She remembered my other health issues (which is actually not normal for healthcare providers - go figure!) and my nickname. She answered my self-marked "non-urgent" messages within 24 hours. I've seen some reviews that mention office staff and, yes, there have been some challenges with reaching someone (long waits, hung up on at least once), but that doesn't diminish the experience much compared to all the good experiences with Dr. Serrato. I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Serrato. My fertility doctor suspected that I had endometriosis and referred me for a consultation. Getting scheduled for my consultation appointment was easy! I received a call back in a timely manner and was able to get scheduled to be seen within a few weeks. Communication with Dr. Serrato's team was pleasant throughout the entire process. During my consultation I got all of my questions answered and Dr. Serrato gave me options for a plan. I decided to have laparoscopy for diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis. She was able to schedule my surgery right away which took place 6 weeks later. There was clear communication leading up to surgery day as she uses an online portal for sending messages. This allowed me to put any worries at ease. My surgery took place at Mills-Peninsula Medical Center. I couldn't be happier with the care I received. My surgery went smoothly. I felt like I was well cared for and very prepared. Post surgery, I did not have any complications and went home that same day. I felt very knowledgeable on what to expect during recovery. The best part was that I DIDN'T experience any gas pain in the shoulder as so many do!! Dr. Serrato has a magical touch! It has been 3 weeks since my surgery. I feel great! I highly recommend Dr. Serrato for a multitude of reasons. My primary physician recommended that I see Dr. Serrato as she is an expert in minimally invasive procedures. At my first appointment with Dr. Serrato, she reviewed the results of all of my tests that my primary doctor had ordered and we discussed all of my options. When discussing treatment, we discussed and tried all of the non-surgical viable options first with minimal results. While we were trying non-surgical options-knowing the end result would most likely end in a hysterectomy, I did my research on Dr. Serrato. I found out that she has 25 years of experience, was trained in minimally invasive surgery and has received several awards for laparoscopic surgery. After trying all non-surgical as well as surgical options (I had a myomectomy), I went to see Dr. Serrato for another visit, we discussed a hysterectomy as that was the only cure for my diagnosis. I was extremely hesitant as I had heard horror stories regarding recovery from family members who had abdominal hysterectomies but after talking with Dr. Serrato and hearing how she could complete the hysterectomy laparoscopically using the da Vinci approach, my mind was immediately made up. Dr. Serrato was able to get me in quickly for the surgery. I was home the evening of the surgery resting comfortably in my own bed (no hospital stay was a needed-another bonus). I will recommend taking the prescribed drugs that Dr. Serrato prescribed. I didn't at first (thinking I was feeling pretty good) but by the second day, I was needing them and actually think being on them helped my recovery. I was only on them for a few days then took ibuprofen for the remainder of the recovery. I will also recommend taking the two to three weeks off of work-your body and brain will thank you-it was needed. Dr. Serrato discussed the procedure in detail so I had a great understanding of what was going to happen and her website has all of the information as well (if you are like me this is extremely helpful as I could go back and read the information as did my husband). If you email any questions to the office, Dr. Serrato (not an office assist) will get back to you extremely quickly. I had my five-week check-up with Dr. Serrato this week and I'm happy to say I feel GREAT. I absolutely love Dr. Serrato and highly recommend her! She's been my ObGyn for 7 years now and I couldn't ask for any better women's health care. I was mostly seeing her for my routine checkups, until recently when I was considering fertility preservation (36 y/o). She referred me to a great Fertility specialist, who noticed a 4cm cyst on my left Ovary. Dr. Serrato and I had been monitoring a cyst on my right ovary that hadn't quite grown to the point of needing Surgery, but this one needed to be removed before any fertility treatment could take place. If I did nothing, there was risk of ovarian torsion which could reduce blood supply to that ovary (not good). Dr. Serrato and I discussed my options and she was able to remove both the 4 cm cyst on the left side and the 1 cm cyst on my right side through a scarless single-site incision in my belly button, and the pain was minimal! I went home the same day, felt a little bloated in my belly and took some extra strength Ibuprofen day 1, but was off pain meds by post op day 2 and driving 4 days after surgery. The best part is she was able to delicately remove the entire cyst from my ovary so I could complete my fertility treatment. Dr. Zouves was very complimentary of her surgery, specifically where the 4cm cyst was on the left side. Thank you, Dr. Serrato! I'm so lucky to have you in my corner. Hands down Dr Serrato is the best that there is. She has delivered both my babies and more recently did my robotic assist laparoscopic hysterectomy. I was beyond thrilled with my recovery from surgery. As an RN I recover many patients who receive abdominal hysterectomy's and they have so much pain and discomfort after surgery. It is shocking that Gynecologist still choose to do hysterectomy's in this manner and that they do not choose the robotic assist like Dr Serrato. My biggest regret is having stayed under Dr. Serrato's care following a low AMH test result. I learned of this test result in a voicemail message left to me after 6pm on a Tuesday. Not only was the test result not explained to me, she then followed up with, "and I won't be back in the office until Friday..." Totally unprofessional. I called back the following morning and to my surprise the call back number left was her cell phone and she yelled at me for having called her before 9am. I don't feel that this diagnosis was adequately explained to me and Dr. Serrato's help beyond this point was also disappointing. Her total follow up amounted to a verbal referral to a very expensive fertility clinic and I didn't really understand what options were available to me. My concerns and plea for information and understanding were dismissed. At a future appointment she commented that I must be focusing on my career because I didn't opt to freeze my eggs at that point in time but I had never communicated that to her and the comment was inappropriate. I leave her office every time feeling like a piece a shit. It's difficult to get in touch following appointment results, I've sat on hold for 20 minutes only to be hung up on. When I was struggling for nearly 2 years with another OB/GYN over a concern that she deemed "typical", I became frustrated. I sought Dr. Serrato as a second opinion. During that first appointment she gently heard my concerns, immediately offered some testing that I could do right away in her office, and was pro-active in really thinking outside of the cookie- cutter box. Unfortunately for me, two days later she had to call me into her office with a diagnosis of cancer. Dr. Serrato did not even know me as her patient, yet she immediately spent all the time needed, compassionately explaining the next steps that we had to take immediately. I'd seen Dr. Serrato for a couple of years. I chose her based on reviews and wanted someone in my age group that would be understanding of menopause related subjects. In the beginning I felt she was efficient and direct. Then it felt more like abrupt and rushed. I don't believe she's ever spent more that 10 minutes with me. Then I told her I was experiencing really painful intercourse, she dismissed it and recommended lubricant. nearly a year later it had worsened to excruciating, and it was then she made A diagnosis - but in the meantime it had gone a year undiagnosed and progressed. She prescribed steroid, no help, then hormone cream, also no help, then basically said I was out of options unless I wanted to try a laser treatment which I'd asked her about previously and she said wouldn't help. No words can describe how indebted I am to Dr. Serrato. I met her serendipitously last year as I was having an ultrasound done at CPMC. When the ultrasound tech found an abnormality on the images, Dr. Serrato immediately came over to review the findings and discuss the differential diagnosis and recommendations for further evaluation. In a nutshell, what ensued over the following months was a very emotional cancer scare and infertility scare. Throughout the entire process, however, Dr. Serrato was thorough, thoughtful in communication and just overall *so* kind and compassionate. A few weeks ago, I reached out to her office through an inquiry form on her website because I needed a second opinion and was no longer connecting with my current OB/GYN. Only a few hours later, some time after-hours, Dr. Serrato emailed me directly to follow-up on my request and did her best to set-up a next day appointment with one of her associates. In one of her swift responses, she said that she would have someone from the office call me, and sure enough, Christine called me within the hour, before they opened!, to set-up a same-day appointment. I appreciate Dr. Serrato's bedside manner, her compassion, her sense of urgency (I needed a second opinion about a blighted ovum), her ability to attune herself to potential patients, and her desire to go way above and beyond. I love Dr Serrato and her entire staff. From an atmosphere perspective, it is always clean, decorated exquisitely and lovely. The wait is mere minutes as the staff runs a tight schedule and i've never sat in the waiting room for more than 5min past my appointment. Which is a far difference than the two hour wait for an equally in demand doctor I use to have in New York. Dr. Serrato performed my Laparoscopic fibroid removal. The surgery was much better than the myomectomy that I had the previous year. I recovered in half the time and my scars are already going away (five months later). Her approach as a professional is stellar along with her bedside manner. The procedure was done smoothly with no hiccups and I felt like I was in the best hands.
