My fiancée flew to Des Moines on her very first business trip and I wanted to surprise her with some yellow roses - her absolute favorite! Even though I called 30 minutes past the delivery deadline, they were super flexible and drove the flowers all the way to her hotel. It took less than 90 minutes from when I first called to when the flowers were in her hands. The flowers were beautiful, smelled great, and came in a very cute base. On her flight home, she took the flowers with her and received lots of comments about how pretty they were and how lucky she was. They even survived the flight and held up for a few weeks back home! I have been using Irene's since I was in college over 30 years ago at Drake University. I could always count on Linda and her team to create just what I wanted, and yet make it affordable for my budget at the time. I now live out-of-state, but all these years later, I can still call Linda for my florist needs in the Des Moines area, and she will beautifully handle things. Recently I asked for Linda's help with the memorial for my step-mother, and while the majority of the arrangements needed were rather classic, I asked for something a little unique for one arrangement. Unfortunately my experience with Irene's was not positive. I recommend if you decide to use Irene's to be very firm about your budget and have pictures of what you want that you can actually give to her to have. While she gave me an estimate that was supposed to be on the high end, when I picked up the flowers they ended up being $100 (or 20%) more than the original quote. She also did not follow the color scheme I had shown her. Lastly, the flowers were pretty but nothing special. Unfortunately, my thoughts were proven true. At the event, there were very few compliments on the flowers. Much too expensive for what you get. read more

I called Irene's Flowers because of their name and because I wanted to send a really nice orchid to my sister-in-law on the passing of her father. Irene's Flowers & Exotic Plants was advertised on the obit. I talked to a representative for about 10 minutes to find the nicest plant that I thought they had. There wasn't much of a selection and no orchids which should have been a warning bell considering their name. I knew by the tone of the thank you note I received that it didn't go over well. I called my brother and he said that the plant was delivered in very poor shape but that his mother-in-law was nursing it back to health. I then called Irene's and they took my number and said the owner would call me back the next day. Of course I received no return phone call. It made me very sad because I wanted my sister-in-law to feel very loved and she didn't. Moral of this story: watch out for internet ads and check Yelp reviews! read more
