I think this place is more entertaining than educational. If you want serious education about the whiskey distillery process, there are plenty of distilleries in Ireland for that. (In Dublin, we went to the Jameson Secret Tasting Experience which was personalized for my husband's connoisseur palate. Expensive but worth it for people who know their whiskeys). The Irish Whiskey Museum will give you a very broad view of what Irish whiskey is, the different types of whiskey, some entertaining storytelling that may be exaggerated a bit, a lot of laughs, and a tasting in the end of some whiskeys you may or may not like. I liked the Powers whiskey the best (of the three). I learned it isn't readily available in the US so if you like it, buy it in Dublin to take home. Our guide Grace was amazing! Even if you don't like whiskey, she'll make you wish you did. She was informative, funny, knowledgeable, irreverent, relatable and charming. I hope she writes her script because it was quite entertaining. The tour itself was a lot of fun. We were a large group and everyone seemed to be having a great time. The gift shop is great too. If you're a hard-core whiskey connoisseur and already know a lot about whiskeys (e.g. my husband), you won't learn anything new here. It includes a very engaging guided tour where you learn about the origins of Irish whiskey. Our guide, Eoin, was funny and entertaining. The tour goes through 5 different themed rooms that represents a particular period in Irish history. The tour is followed by tasting 4 Irish whiskeys. At the end, you blend your own whiskey. Everything I just described is part of the whiskey blending experience. Be sure to visit the museum's bar to enjoy some live music or any of their whiskeys. If you don't have time to do any of the other whisky tastings and want to get the most out of one tour, then this place is for you. I will start with- we didn't get to taste Jameson or teeling, but we did get to taste thee different Irish whiskies. The tour was very informative and our tour guide was so much fun. I think his name was Eion or something like that. The tour runs every 30 minutes. It's about 20 euros. They do have a bar where you can get a beer or taste whisky. They also have a gift shop. It was my first time in Ireland and what better place to learn about Irish whiskey than the Irish Whiskey Museum right in downtown. I opted for the Irish Whiskey Museum blending experience tour which included a tasting of 4 Irish whiskeys followed by an opportunity to blend my own whiskey in a miniature personalized bottle to bring home. €28 was a reasonable price for the experience. I learned a lot about the history of Irish whiskey, scotch, and how irish whiskey is trying to reclaim the market. The tour guide was engaging, knowledgeable, and friendly. My tour didn't start for another 30 minutes so i waited at their lounge/bar area and tried pour of their Irishman 17 year whiskey. It was not peaty at all and went down smooth. They also have a small gift shop full of t-shirts, whiskey-related souvenirs, and glasses. I had a great time at the Irish Whiskey Museum! read more

This is not a "museum", it is a performance experience. There are no artifacts to examine, no exhibits, no displays. There is a very talented and energetic "guide" that entertains you about "whiskey" with some props that are regarded as nothing more than set dressing. As such, there is no "whiskey" in the whiskey museum. This is a completely scripted tour of whiskey mythology, from a 50K meter viewpoint. The guide gets to riff on the material he presents, but I suspected his comic admonitions were based on his realization that what he was saying was shite. Most of what the guide says about "Irish whiskey" is inaccurate and misleading with a few outright lies. Whether they're prompted by ignorance or malevolence I can't say, but this should probably be re-branded as "House of Lies". The reason I'm being harsh is that the real stories and facts behind whiskey are vastly more interesting than this tripe. Its been dumbed down beyond belief and at the same time, gives the consumer less insight into the real stories and fun behind the category, and perpetuates bad information. I came here 5 years ago and it was more of a museum then, but that's all been replaced by this crap. I dare the owners to challenge me on this. read more

Loved it. Would recommend for any whiskey drinker. We bought tickets online and saved a little bit of cash. We arrived late unfortunately but they still accommodated us. Our guide, Eoin (pronounced Owen) really set the tone for the tour. He gave us so much information about whiskey, including why some are spelled without the E! He gave us whiskey history, Irish history, Irish language lessons (Uisce Beatha), and finished it off with a tasting. Some of the decor is a little wonky but again, Eoin made up for it. I was excited to do this tour as I had done the Jack Daniels tour in Tennessee and do love whiskey and bourbon and its history. I think this tour may depend a little bit on the the person that guides you through. It starts with a weird movie-like introduction that the guide talks through, our guide was disparaging the movie from the beginning and it was kind of hokey and not really purposeful. It moves in to talking about prohibition and a little more history of how the industry started in Ireland and the UK and then more about the principal personalities that shaped the industry in Ireland. If you are looking for more of the history and actual production processes maybe the distillery tours would be a much better option..it's just skimmed over here...again this may depend on who your guide is. The tour ends with a tasting which had 3 choices and they were all pretty decent choices and I was told these do rotate occasionally. I guess it is maybe having visited the Jack Daniels distillery previously where I got history and saw the actual production process and smelled the barrels- it was more of an all sensory tour, this one was a bit of a letdown. If you're down for $22 for a little history and a taste of 3 whiskies this may be your thing...I just left wishing it had been a little more. read more

Our tour of the Irish Whiskey Museum was pretty good. It started off a bit hokey, and our guide was somewhat detached, as we watched a couple cartoony presentations about the history of Irish whiskey. The best part of our evening was when we went up to the tasting room and our guide livened up and became more engaging. What we liked about this tour is that it is not affiliated with any distillery and therefore you get a more balanced overview of the different whiskeys in Ireland. The tastings were nice and we appreciated getting a feel for the flavors coming from the different brands. We ended up getting our tickets discounted through a walking tour we took earlier in the day so we felt we got a better value from our experience. We happened upon the Irish Whiskey Museum on a bit of a whim - Google said it was open until 10:30PM, so after all of the other museums closed at 5:00PM or 6:00PM, we figured we'd check this one out, too. However, it wasn't the *museum* that was open that late - it was just the whiskey bar attached to the museum. Let me tell you, we had the BEST time in this very quaint little room of a bar, and I cannot recommend it enough. If you don't want to do the museum experience, and just want advice on a new whiskey, a classic whiskey, a tame whiskey, a bold whiskey, a rare whiskey, or whatever kind of Irish whiskey you can think of (because it IS the specifically IRISH Whiskey Museum), then go in and ask for Shane. He's an expert, a gentleman, and just a delight of a person. We ended up sitting at the tiny table in the alcove window overlooking the Parliament building, lit up so fun for the holidays, and enjoyed the Dubliner (I think) whiskey flight, along with about 4 other full glasses throughout the evening, all of which were curated for us one-by-one by Shane. We're not connoisseurs by any means, so the fact that we genuinely enjoyed the choices he picked for us - including a request to keep the prices low for his selections - really speaks to this guy knowing his stuff. If you get the chance to order from Shane at the Irish Whiskey Museum's whiskey bar, then you've struck gold in this city. Additionally, we happened in on a night where there was live music! It seems that may be the case every night here, but we visited on a Saturday, so I can't say for sure whether that was just a weekend thing or not. Regardless, the musician was a singer/guitarist by the name of Don Baker, Jr., and what a LOVELY talent that man is. Seriously, if you get the chance to happen upon Don when he has a mic, an amp, and an acoustic guitar, then your ear drums are in for a right treat. A smooth voice, a great selection of songs, and a lovely and fun person - you couldn't ask for better for live entertainment. Even though the location is so intimate and small, the live music made it feel even more special and lively and overall brilliant. Moments when it was semi-crowded or moments when it was nearly empty (we were the only two patrons a couple of times throughout our 2 or so hours there) didn't matter for the vibe - it was spectacular and lovely no matter what. We only wished there were a few more patrons just to provide a bigger audience experience for Don, but he played just as beautifully and skillfully and lovingly regardless of the number of people in the room. (Also, bless him for catering to a couple of tipsy Americans - he asked for requests, and we jokingly said 'anything by Harry Nilsson,' knowing that's a bit niche of a selection - he jokingly responded, "Willie Nelson you say?! Sure thing! I got one of his - say less!" Just another moment to show what a delight this man is.) We're not clubbers, partiers, or fans of getting stuck in big crowds - but we love a good drink if it comes with the atmosphere of live music, and this place was all that and then some. Intimate, but lively. After our first round of drinks, I went to the bar to ask Shane for another recommendation, but asked first if it was usually this quiet on a Saturday night, to which he replied that this bar isn't really a "destination," and isn't even really a "bar" so to speak - it's more of a bar that's attached to an attraction that folks visit before and/or after their Museum tour for a single drink to either get them in the mood for the theme, or reminisce about what they just experienced. In fact, he then offered to recommend some "more lively pubs and places around the corner instead," to which I aggressively and speedily responded with a "NO THANK YOU THIS IS PERFECT." Haha! We stayed for 3 rounds of whiskeys and Guinness pours with an Irish Whiskey expert, a wonderful set list with an engaging and beautifully talented singer/guitarist, and an all around lovely time visiting only the bar attached to the Irish Whiskey Museum, and we couldn't recommend it more highly. Got the blending whiskey experience, which was horrible!!! First off our guide was late, second it was hot as hell, no ac, no fans except those pointing toward the workers and guides. The blending experience, they don't even mention its not separate, so we were "blending" stuff not knowing that was the experience part and the bottling you get to "take home". What a joke! It's not even a nice bottle, complete rubbish! Do not buy through blending experience! It's literally just mixing their whiskey tasting whiskey together, that's it! Nothing more! We had returned from Northern Ireland and had a couple of days left to mosey around Dublin City Centre. Among the places I wanted to visit, the Irish Whiskey Museum was one of them. Because whiskey. Situated on three floors, the museum offers a gift shop, a whiskey bar, a multi-roomed interactive tour experience, as well as a tasting room to sample various whiskeys. Overall, I enjoyed my time at the museum, as we did the premium tour that allowed us to sample in addition to three whiskeys, a barrel-aged one, for a couple of euros more. We enjoyed bars of chocolate from butters while I enjoyed a glass of 7-year whiskey by Glendalough that was very good in the whiskey bar before our tour began. When on the tour, the set rooms where the guide discussed the various landmarks of Irish Whiskey history were pretty cool. They gave a nice vibe that assisted the guide who gave her spiel on the history of Irish Whiskey. The guide was very good at keeping everyone enthused -- then again, we were talking about Irish Whiskey, so a little hard to not be enthused, but I digress. The tasting room where we tried four whiskeys was great. I hadn't tried three before that, and enjoyed The Irishmen and Knappogue Castle varieties especially. Such a great experience. I had googled Whiskey tours before visiting Ireland and this one stood out as the best bang for the buck. We paid for the premium tour which included 4 tastings, a souvenir glass, and a Whiskey tour. Grace was our tour guide and she was freaking awesome and hilarious. It was a short 30 minute tour with interesting history and surprisingly funny jokes. After a walk through time learning about Irish Whiskey history you end the tour in the tasting room which continued with a lesson in how to taste Whiskey and the difference in flavor, body and texture. Aaron was a great tour guide and provided our group with lots of history that you didn't need to be a whiskey fan to appreciate. They have a modern looking bar where you can order whiskey flights, cocktails, Irish coffees, and more (these are priced separately). Short Tour but just the right information. Wen't by for about 2 years without giving a visit. I had a friend over so we gave it a try. Tour is about an 1 hour with a tasting of 3 or four whiskeys at the end. It's not one of those 'read a thousand display boards yourself' kind of tour but a lot of narrative from your guide with a great number of examples and interaction. You not just learn about the process of making whisky but way more about the cultural history of what is called 'the water of life' in Ireland. Alongside the history of whisky you get some deep insights into the Irish culture itself and learn why those crazy folks are the way they are. Great museum! I liked this because it gave the entire history instead of just focusing on one brands history. Our guide, Susan, was excellent. She was knowledgable and funny. There were 4 rooms to go through to get the history with a taste at the end. We opted for the 4 tastes plus a glass for €19. I really enjoyed the tasting and our guide explained the different flavors to us well. After the tour we stopped by the cafe and got an Irish coffee. He was hilarious and I am glad we got him as a guide. They talked to us about the history if Irish whiskey and I found it extremely interesting. They also talked to us about the different whiskeys and the ingredients used. They taught us how to properly taste whiskey and I compare it to wine tasting, but slightly different. The first time was the basic and what great people they have explaining and telling all the history of all Irish whiskey with no bias. They will tell you either fav however we all have different preferences. The second time we visited we did the blending tour. I think this one is for those that already know something about whiskey. We had just arrived into Dublin and couldn't check into our hotel because it was too early, so we decided to go to the Whiskey Museum. Our tour group consisted about 15 people and our tour guide Aaron (aka Fluffy) was super fun and funny. We were taken to a room upstairs and shown a video. Adam dropped some whiskey knowledge on us (which we later used during our Teeling Distillery tour). Afterwards we headed to the tasting bar. In Ireland for a wedding and decided last minute today to go on a whiskey tour and chose this place after reading other Yelpers' reviews and after further confirmation from my hotel concierge, w/ the guy telling me he recently visited the museum and enjoyed the experience very much. It's conveniently located in central Dublin near Trinity College. The tasting/tour here costs $17 Euros for 3 whiskey "basic" package vs. $20 Euros for 4 whiskey "premium" package, which also includes a complimentary glass. Seemed like a no-brainer, because more is always better right? :P Fionn, who was our guide, was very knowledgeable and friendly. The tour (we literally showed up at 2:59pm and was able to tag onto the 3pm group) with the tasting at the end lasted about just under 1 hour. He thoroughly explained the history (made easy to understand with aid of videos and illustrations) of Irish whiskey as well as the distilling process with lighthearted jokes throughout.
