What a great facility. This place is massive. Lots of different climbing options. They have a second floor balcony for watching and using treadmills or weightlifting. A lot of nice big windows in the front of the building to let the sunshine in. Lots of space for moving around on the main floor to observe. Good bathroom facility with changing rooms. I love this place. So Great for kids and families alike and for staying healthy and in good shape. The staff was welcoming and engaging when I walked in the door. They have a long U-shaped kind of reception desk for checking in. I don't know if they offer any private classes here or private lessons on climbing, but that might be something to check into in the future.

I love ICB! In addition to climbing routes of varying heights and difficulty, there is a weightlifting section and also five treadmills upstairs. I recommend coming before 5 pm as it does get crowded but I understand the hype. This gym is a friendly and judgment-free space where you can work out, learn to climb, and practice your routes. They change out the routes every month and a half, so don't get too attached to your favorite climb. Additionally they host a lot of fun community events and the staff are always super welcoming and friendly. As a member you get access to free fitness classes (the stretching class on Saturday's is incredible) and you can bring up to two guests every month.

This bouldering-only gym located in Lawrenceville recently opened its doors on 1/21/21. Very spacious and plenty of climbs for all levels. Route grading ranged from VB (beginner) to V10+. Shoe rentals were included in a day pass. Upstairs is a workout area with an open view of the whole gym, including 2 stationary bikes, free weights, and a functional trainer with a pull-up bar. I had a fun experience and I'm excited to climb more here in the future!

On a scale of romances to documentaries, Iron City Boulders is an adventure novel. Clean, minimalist, and wonderfully laid out, Iron City Boulders offers a space to climb, hit the weights, and take classes. When you arrive the first time, they offer a quick video on safety, and then you're good to go. Climbing routes are easy to spot, and you can learn by watching other experienced climbers. Parking is plentiful.

    Huge climbing space!

I booked a…read moreclass on Class pass after seeing Kiera's Tik Tok about what to expect from your first Mecka Fitness class. I thought this class would be a stretch for me since I'm not a runner whatsoever but I was pleasantly surprised. I did have to stand outside since no one was in the studio but I messaged the business on Instagram and they said someone was on the way. Kiera saved me from the Pittsburgh breeze and was so nice and welcoming. She walked me through all the equipment we would be using so I could feel comfortable. The gym also had lockers inside the bathrooms for each gender. The class was a mix of running/sprinting/jogging/walking and ski pulls, and weights. I feel the burn and I know I'm going to be sore for a few days. I also love the cold peppermint towel at the end. It's a nice touch. It was a great start to my day and I can't wait to be in Pittsburgh again to come back.

I tried the Rejoove by Mecka room for $40. After arrival, I noticed a class was in session, and it shares a wall with the contrast therapy room. The music shook the sauna panels and was too loud for me to even listen to my own music and/or read in peace. After about 15 mins, I left and asked for a refund/reschedule. I was told someone would be in contact. No one was, so I reached out myself, and was told no refunds since I used up a spot that someone else could have. Seems odd considering that the noise level was not communicated prior and part of a session is relaxation. I was offered a reschedule again after requesting a refund instead. Would not recommend giving your money to a place that is so careless with it. Thoughtless concept that is very clearly just an easy money grab.

At the end of 2017 the place was renovated and it's so much nicer now. The manager, Bethany is awesome. She's just so friendly and is most likely on a first name basis with everyone who uses Snap. I'm one of those people though who really only use the gym for a treadmill and light lifting. If I can't get outside because of weather, this is where I go and I'm never disappointed. The people who use the gym are all sorts of different fitness levels and even the super fit lifters are friendly to anyone who might not be as fit.

I was…read moregreeted by the gym attendant (manager?) who looked almost exactly like the character Jason Lochinvar from the 1980's legal drama "Jake and the Fatman." (Which, by the way, is a neutral to slightly enjoyable fact in my book.) He was rather surly, and he seemed suspicious of the fact that I wanted to try out the gym for a day. I guess I look menacing. Long story short... the place is abysmal. Don't get me wrong, I completely understand the value and allure of a no-frills gym that has 24/7 access. The thing is this place is below no-frills. The equipment is sparse (as well as cheap and dated). There's very little in the way of free weights. They didn't even have a free weight bench press rig. Pretty sure that's tantamount to gym blasphemy. All told, you're probably better off jogging around one of those fitness tracks - which you can do for free. (You know, the ones with pull-up bars and what not strewn along the perimeter of the track. Those are pretty bad ass, but figuring out which exercise to do on which bar, rack, plank, etc. can be a bit like deciphering the meaning of obscure archeological ruins.) My visit didn't give me a desire to workout more, but it did give me an insatiable desire to watch a few reruns of a riveting 1980's legal drama starring a certain hard-as-nails (yet lovable) district attorney.

I spent a year or longer after moving to Pittsburgh attending classes in many different gyms around the city. I've found other establishments that I enjoy and get great work outs in and click with the coaches but no one compares to the service received at Panthro from Chris and his team. Chris is passionate and knowledgeable in what he does with clients. Not only have I seen some of the best results in my body but feel great and know I'm at the strongest I've been. No doubt I'm going into 30 in the best shape of my life. Chris frequently checks in and remembers problem areas or things I have been working on. If I'm having trouble with an area, he is quick to suggest and demonstrate specific stretches and adjust any of the days work out to ensure the best and most effective experience. Seriously cannot recommend this place enough!! I have 2-3 gyms on my list that I love in Pittsburgh but hands down, Panthro is it! It's small, intimate and such a welcoming gym. I've taken classes with Chris and Casey but trust that Chris brings the best coaches to his team!

Class experience: Whether strength or bootcamp, every class feels new, thoughtful, and carefully designed to work my body. The trainers are always very helpful in providing modifications to exercises to accommodate injuries. The trainers also are helpful in providing feedback on form and motivation. For me, it feels like I have my own personal trainer for a fraction of the price. Community: Not only are the trainers amazing at Panthro, but the people who go to Panthro are as well. When you go to Panthro, you also join a friendly and encouraging community. Results: My body is noticeably different now from when I started. I am stronger and have better muscle definition--receiving multiple compliments from friends and family. The result I appreciate the most is a significant reduction in injuries and recovery times. Pulling a muscle in my back at home? Nope Fatigued after a vigorous day of yard work or helping someone move? Nada. My main motivation for going to the gym is to care for my body and enable me to live my best life--Panthro certainly provides that value for me.
