My partner and I tried this gym for the first time, and we love the vibe! I've been walking and driving by this gym for years and finally decided to try it out. Stephen, the staff person that day was super friendly and helpful. We went midday so we didn't have to wait for any machines. Plenty of machines and free weights to use. Did I mention that this place was super clean? While most of the equipment rings 'old school', there were some new bikes and other equipment in there! We're excited to finally join a gym that we can walk to. If you are driving in, parking can be challenging on Highland depending on the time of the day.

This is a great little "old-school" style gym. I dropped in while I was visiting Pittsburgh, and felt very welcome despite not being a regular member. Fitness Factory has a bit of a "rough around the edges" feel, with some of the equipment a little bit older and a bit awkwardly positioned, but all and all, everything worked just fine and I was able to get a good workout in. They have a lot of "bodybuilding" style machines here, but also standard squat racks and deadlift platforms. They also have a lot of cardio equipment, including a rower and airdyne bike. One thing I did find a bit strange was all of the signs...there were signs everywhere with rules posted on them, and while many were not unusual rules (re-rack your weights, no chalk on the floor, etc), they were still a bit overwhelming (at one point, I counted 18 "instructional" signs within my line of sight). If you can get past that part of the experience, this really is a good little gym and you can get a lot done here. The $15 drop-in fee is quite reasonable, and I'll definitely be back at some point!

Fitness Factory is a small neighborhood gym on South Highland. There is no pool, no basketball courts, no squash trainers, no smoothie bar, etc. It is the best priced option in the area, as well. If you want to pay $50/mo to say you have a sauna in the locker room, you'll be happy to know that Urban Active has opened their doors right down the road, and that the parking is plentiful. What Fitness Factory does have is a good exercise environment: 3 rooms - one mostly machines, a rock wall, cardio; one free weight room, two power racks, a few benches, more cardio, and a small third room with floor mats, medicine balls, punching bags, etc and no equipment littering the floor. The decor of the place is funky, light-up neon squiggles on the wall, abstract art mixed with pictures of bodybuilders, a few random retro ads featuring a famed lifter of yesteryear(Thanks, Cybex! - Arnie) I will be the first to admit that yes, this place is crammed, however it is not to the point that you can't maneuver, nor to the point that you can't do whatever exercise you want to do safely. The staff is friendly, the owner signed me up and he was very nice, and I have seen people working with the personal trainers, and they all seem friendly as well. The gym is clean. People follow the signs to put away their free weights, there are spray bottles everywhere, and I have yet to so much as smell a foul odor, which is impressive. Again, this isn't a multi-million dollar LA Fitness - It's a gym, and it's not going to be pristine. My only complaint about the place is that the hours are bad unless you buy the 24 hour access pass, which is $35/year(They give you a small RFID dongle which will open the side door, and the locker room respective of your sex - so ladies you can feel safe in your locker rooms at night). This is great, however they close off the free-weight room after hours, and while I can understand it from a safety standpoint, I'm not big on machines so it throws a wrench into my workout if I'm ever late to the party. So far I haven't been in during peak hours, but around noon I often find I get a whole room to myself, I think the most people I've ever seen in there was 10, and I have yet to have to share any equipment. Again, if you're looking for a cheap neighborhood gym that you can go to, do your workout, and come home - this is the place to join. If you want a smoothie bar, head on a little further down Penn. Also, there is a sign currently offering a free Yoga class through June 2011, so it seems like they are trying to compete with the gyms offering classes/services to their members

This place is unlike any gym I've been too it's a funky almost hippie vibe with neon lights and music.

From someone who can be really hard on herself, training with Alex has made working out fun for me again. Through working with Alex I have been reminded that it's consistency that is key, not necessarily doing everything perfectly all the time. I appreciate his knowledge of and passion for health and fitness. You can tell it's something he really loves. He cares about his clients and helping them meet goals. Our training sessions are enjoyable - Alex constantly works in new exercises to mix it up and keep it interesting. He practices what he preaches: always listen to your body. You are the one doing the exercises and you know best if something doesn't feel right. Starting to train with Alex really jump-started my fitness journey - I never thought I'd be one to say I love weight training! I found a way to stay healthy and fit that I know I'll enjoy for life. The facility at terraFITNESS has everything you'd want in a gym - free weights, TRX, cable machine, (new) squat rack, hexabar, even a punching bag. They're constantly buying new equipment - and it reminds me of a mini crossfit gym.

They also gave me the wrong pricing. The monitors are way inflated at $120+, and they offer a 50% off deal, except they really don't. Highlights: Pros- 1. The instructors- they are friendly and energetic, many take time to encourage class members by name which is real motivation, additionally, they essentially conduct a group personal training session, giving just the perfect amount of personalized attention to ensure perfect form but not so much that you can't go at your own pace. 2. The ambience- the lighting is perfect, dim and cool, the music is great, and the atmosphere is contagious. 3. The results- I get a great sweat every single class, and am seeing and feeling some excellent results, you really can't help but get into shape... and you can do so at your own pace. 4. The cancellation policy- this is definitely a mixed bag, however, knowing I will be charged $12 for a no show or canceling less than 8 hours in advance means when I commit I really commit ( non premier members lose the class, value approx $28). While some people may find this frustrating it is just the extra push I need. Cons- 1. The location- nice spot in the east end but can be a parking challenge 2. The price- I do think it's worth it but at approx $60-$160 a month, it's definitely more than a workout, it's an investment 3. Scheduling- for the most part this has steadily improved and you can count on being able to book two weeks out at 9 pm each evening but sometimes that isn't the case and typically by 5 am the next morning classes are full, I've had to stay up until as late as 1 am to get into a class... or forgotten and been locked out entirely... for $150 a month I almost feel spaces should be guaranteed 4. Technology- sometimes this goes down, once or twice a month since I started, and nothing is done about it... the problem is you then have no record of your workout and the record is a big plus Ultimately, I would highly recommend OTF to anyone who needs an extra dose of motivation, who wants to get fit fast, who struggles to get in a full body burn, who wants to have fun and is ready to invest in themselves!

Josh is extremely knowledgeable about all facets of the body, exercise, gym equipment, and nutrition.  These skills became apparent  when he designed and implemented an individualized training program for me.  He focuses on helping you achieve long-term fitness goals, but adjusts workouts weekly and monthly to meet your particular needs at different stages along your fitness journey.  For example, before I started working with Josh, I had lower back pain that would flair up  from time to time.  Josh has been mindful of my injury history, while modifying workouts, catering to any limitations I might have, so I can continue to progress.  Over the years he has helped me develop a stronger, and more resilient core, which has substantially reduced the frequency of painful back episodes I used to have. Josh is also good at understanding my current mental and physical capacity for training on any given day.  As a result, he is able to  make adjustments to my program which set me up for success, despite work fatigue, or occasional lapses in motivation.  This means he understands when I can be pushed hard, and when I need a lighter day if I'm particularly burned out for other reasons. This has enabled me to maintain my fitness routine during the past 5 years without dreading them.  I enjoy my workouts which hasn't always been the case  with prior training experiences. The Training Revelations studio is great.  The facility and equipment is comprehensive, clean, and orderly.  Because only one client is working out at a time, it reinforces how personalized the experience truly is. I also want to note that during the COVID-19 crisis, Josh has made himself available through video conferencing to help me continue to maintain an exercise routine at home.  I definitely recommend Training  Revelations for personal training! Josh's expertise, and unique approach to training, has allowed me to consistently work out in a way  that is sustainable for the long term.

Before I formally started working with Josh, we talked. Our conversation involved more than collecting medical information and was definitely NOT a sales pitch. Josh actively asked about my goals and fears, and why I wanted to train. He was very clear about what training could and could not do to help me meet my goals, and also what would be expected of me. So, when I looked around at all the gyms offered in the city and suburbs, I chose this one because it's in one of the toniest neighborhoods and looked quite sophisticated. Looks are deceiving. This is one of the worst gyms I've ever visited. In fact, it's nothing more than what I call a McGym, which is a facility where someone goes in and dumps a lot of equipment into a big room and calls it a gym, but it lacks the other amenities that make it a true gym. Despite the size of this place, it has no walking or running track, and there is plenty of room for it. They also have no swimming pool despite the fact they actually advertise aqua classes on their website for this specific gym! It has no whirlpool or steam room, which you could find at the dowdiest YMCA in a rundown town. Before I could get my opportunity to sample the gym, I had to listen to the sales pitch from one of their associates. When I ask about a pool, his response was, "Not anymore. Anthropology (a store downstairs) didn't appreciate their things getting wet so we had to take the pool out." Well, I didn't appreciate the glib response and I also didn't appreciate being told that if I joined, I could use the pool at the Bridgeville gym, 25 miles away in the suburbs! So, having no pool or whirlpool, I could only do my usual weight routine for my back problems. After I showered, there were no hairdryers to be found. When I inquired about them at the desk, they told me that most people brought their own. I've never been to a gym in my life where they did not offer hairdryers, and again that includes the seediest of YMCAs. This LA Fitness has a lot of the flaws that many commercial gyms have. The staff pretends to be friendly but comes off as placating and condescending. Hence, I'm wondering why LA Fitness is So expensive when Planet Fitness offers pretty much the same amenities. I am attaching two pictures of their website to show that this location advertises water aerobics after removing their pool. Avoid this gym and go to a Y, where you'll find what you really need.
