SK's online review rating was higher at the time I started working with them so perhaps it seems their below average service delivery is catching up with them. I would just say to proceed with caution. The price is fair based on other CPA firms, but you need to know that the service will be a challenge. I experienced poor communication, major delays in timing expectations, and less than competent tax preparation. I'm a business owner/CPA and when I worked with SK I joked that you needed to be a CPA in order to work with them. I caught many mistakes (even basic ones) that prevented headaches down the line had I not caught them before final filing with the tax authorities. I would have left one star, but I believe they mean well, there's just seems to be an inability to execute. They recognized my poor service experience, but then weren't able to improve it (even after the associate we were working with left). Again, engage with caution.

I thought everything was ok. 2014 I email Statis Voutsas Associates to have a Statement of Services Rendered sent to me. The response I got was. He could not do that because. My Taxes had been filed with my wife's (with her employer) and he couldn't do that because confidentiality reasons. if this wasn't bad enough. I asked if he could guarantee me that NO ONE has had access to my personal or tax info. After 3 emails of asking that same question. his response was. While your information is strictly confidential and not shown to anyone. No one has ever expressed an interest or ask to see your return. We needed a W9 to complete our clients 1099s by the deadline and he screamed at our staff member that he provides professional services and does not require a 1099. 1) That is incorrect (any CPA should know this). 2) He yelled at my staff and said "I AM AN ACCOUNTANT, ARE YOU, ARE YOU???" Why yes, we are. Most small businesses would know to give the W9 to anyone who asks to get a 1099 completed. It happens every year and is not out of the ordinary. I then called him back to try and get more information and after an argument he told me he would fill out the W9 and would send to the client. Why didn't he say that the first time? Why didn't he think he needed a 1099 in the first place? Why did he have to be aggressive and mean over the phone and just send the W9 like we asked so we could complete our client work? Is he trying to evade taxes? Not only am I writing this review because he made one of my staff members cry and proceeded to try and bully me and hang up on me, but he doesn't know the IRS rules about 1099s and W9s. If I were you, I would NOT hire this man to do any accounting work as he simply doesn't know what he's doing. There is no reason to be mean to other companies that are trying to do their job and I hope people take my review seriously and steer clear of this so called "CPA" and his firm.

I'm of course waiting for my refund and hoping it comes through. Regarding the owner's comments about submitting it close to deadline. I submitted my documents weeks in advance (and ahead of their quoted deadline date for me to provide). I don't appreciate the implication that I submitted my documents late when simple email records can verify I submitted ahead of their deadline. Just say you were busy this year, had to deal with some staff shortages, what I don't appreciate is trying to pass it back on to me.

Even though I am single payer and EZ form would be more than doable, I think it's money well spent to have a tax person who you can call and will advise you about tax info. When I bought a house, I just called to have the tax info forwarded to me because I am not that organized. When I moved and Maryland got confused and was like we don't have any tax info, I faxed her the forms and ATS took care of it. So if you don't like to be hassled with that stuff the money spent every year for me seems worthwhile in the end since I am lazy with this stuff which means more time spent and headaches. As a former IRS employee, Vicky might be conservative towards write offs, but I have heard of friends who went to less conservative tax folks, got fat returns, only to be audited and have their wages garnished. As for the poor review, I wonder if they forgot to postmark the documents unless they were e-file. I have never had an issue or needed to question Vicky. She is very well organized and instructs you, the payer to drop off the forms when doing it the old school, paper way. She and her daughter are very organized and meticulous so I have to wonder if the person ignored their very thorough instructions. When you're done she gives you a nice packet and provides all the info (post office locations etc) if you file paper. Also her office provides snacks and coffee which is nice added touch.

I met with Poonam Bansal, ,who I believe is the owner. We spoke over the phone and I explained that I needed my personal income taxes completed for 2011. She quoted me a decent price and was very personable, so I went to visit her. She was really thorough and patient in explaining all my forms and what I needed to get to her. When I got back, I sent most of my stuff to her via email and in a few days, she had completed my taxes. I'm unsure if I would have gotten the same amount back if I did this on my own, but I was definitely pleasantly surprised to see my return. Just the ease of giving your taxes to someone and having it completed so quickly is a nice feeling. I will most likely use her again. Just note that she seems to be getting busy as she said she's working every weekend until 9pm, so I would assume that the closer it gets to Tax Day, the harder it will be to employ her services.
