Oh my goodness, just went to my 5th grade son's school for their presentation of 'Walk Through The…read moreAmerican Revolution'. It was AWESOME! Thank you for bringing the American Revolution to life and putting it totally in perspective! I learned SO much myself! Our presenter was Chelsea. She did a magnificent job (2-1/2 hours worth) keeping the kids active and learning! They were cheering ALL throughout the presentation and completely engaged. She had them answering questions, doing battle scenes (which they had practiced beforehand) and getting on a soap-box to present their own specially chosen character. My son was Paul Revere. We dressed him up and he memorized just a few lines that he recited during the 'show'. The kids had a blast, WE ALL learned about the time-line of events, who's who and the meaning of at least 5 of our country's different flags. Awesome. Another point I have to make (being a Christian). Unlike the public schools, California Weekly Explorer Inc kept God in the picture. Many times Chelsea would comment about how different Presidents/Explorers/Important people in history gave God the glory and/or spoke about Him in a 'Let's do what's RIGHT' way. I mean, God IS who our country's founded upon . . . look at the Declaration of Independence etc .. . Anyway, I really appreciated that. Thank you California Weekly!

My son was John Hancock and there was only one lady that ran everything her name was Kim. Kim did a fantastic job at keeping us and the children interested and entertained. I wish my daughter did this when she was in the 5th grade. I think this should be requireD for all schools to learn about the American revolution in this setting. Again thank you Kim for being so enthusiastic and energetic and helped our children learn about the American revolution in a way they will always remember. I'm very grateful that my son was able to take part in such a wonderful learning experience such as this.

Once I emailed it, I was told they reqiure wet-signature, even thuogh when I drove for 35 min + to drop it off (wet-signed) I was turned away. They simply will not even accept it. In the center was a pretty fountain. Small grass areas had a few people having a picnic on the day I visited. There was a QR code for use if you wanted any history of the area. A fun little place to sit and relax on one of the many benches. The overall layout is a large circle around the fountain with sidewalks and benches. No bathrooms here. So expect a ton of real estate ads (they've gotta pay for your free paper), and I wish they had more restaurant discounts. Beyond that, here's the skinny on the different sections. DELIVERED WEEKLY for FREE (Rating 5) WHAT'S UP WITH section (Rating 4) This is the first section in the paper on the first interior (right) page. I like this section allot. It's well written and keeps me up to date on what's happening locally with local development, ongoing projects (like the 5 frwy, uhhhh) etc. They break it down by "The Latest", laying out what it's all about and "What's Next", what will be happening next with it. A great layout for these types of short articles. NEWS BITES (Rating 3) This is where it gets a little more "small townish", which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It covers local "goings-on" (e.g. The Ocean Festival Yard Sale, Auditions for Children's Theater Sets etc). It's pretty neat because your event or story doesn't have to be earth shattering news to make it to print. The Community Meetings also is in this section and is helpful showing what's happening for the week with regards to upcoming events and meetings SC SHERIFF'S BLOTTER (Rating 3) A list of everything our local PD has been up to for the week. Keep up the great job guys and if I was rating you, it would be a "5"! SOAPBOX (VIEWS OPINIONS and INSIGHTS) (Rating 3.5) A place for the community to weigh in. Just write to the editor! GETTING OUT (Rating 4) A section that shows everything that is happening (day by day) in the community. From Concerts to Family Fairs to Basket Weaving. It's in there. SC LIVING (PROFILES of OUR COMMUNITY) (Rating 4) Stories about people in the community and their adventures, successes etc. This is always inspiring to me. BUSINESS DIRECTORY Usually about 2 pages of local business ads broken down by services. It's a nice touch and they have the same on their web site. To make it more helpful, it would be awesome if they listed the company's current Yelp rating, right? SPORTS & OUTDOORS (Rating 4.5) So no local paper would be good without the local high school sports section. This is awesome for families and kids alike. Hi, I've been…read moreenjoying TSJ since the mid-90's when I looked forward each month to going to Tower Records (9th Floor) in downtown Shibuya-Tokyo, Japan. When I returned to NorCal in 2000 I subscribed and have continued to look forward to receiving the journal. Unfortunately I've noticed a shift in TSJ's format that really, in my 68 year-old opinion isn't to the quality/standard that I've always enjoyed. The content and photo's for the most part are excellent but the layout and design format is really a let down from what it's been, especially the last 4 editions. Here are my concerns: 1. I know your change may be to appeal to a younger audience but there are still a lot of old guys like me that look and read your magazine and even with my progressive glasses switching fonts to a smaller size does not work for older eyes. 2. Why the "cut and paste" layout, it's not clean and the captions in the little boxes is tacky! 3. Why blank or almost blank pages? 4. The cover used to be classic, now it looks like the interior.....not a lot of effort. 5. As an artist aesthetics's is important to me, don't lose the fine art section (missing in the last issue). I'll end on a positive note saying I really enjoyed the feature on Skip Frye. DR, Martinez, CA
