I normally do takeouts here when I'm working late at the office. It's not an out of the world extraordinary sushi place but they have decent rolls and appetizers for a decent price. Ishin is a canteen and it's a good one. People come here for a quick lunch and leave afterwards. Simple as that. Their dishes are fair priced and okay I guess. I had the rice baskets with makarel and it was good. Not mind blowing but good, I mean that was so much better than some food I got around this area. Nevertheless I prefer other Japanese places over Ishin and would only recommend this if you are around and need some good lunch. Bonus: Free green tea! read more

Visiting Berlin for marathon and saw on Yelp. Close to Brandenburg Gate. Wanted rice pre-race dinner and they did not disappoint. Great selection of rice bowls and I ordered bakudan don - tuna, natto, okra and tororo - very japanese ingredients and perfect for me as I am japanese. Also chatted with another japanese runner who suggested I order onigiri to go for breakfast and I did! Also japanese chef at bar. Felt like home. Now all I have to do is run 42.195 km! read more

I have only ordered the steamed bowls with marinated salmon, rice, etc. and this has totally been worth it. Can't beat 6.50 for a great & quality meal. I haven't ventured to try their Sushi, but I am completely content with my regular order. Fills me up, healthy, and tasty! read more

Got one of the dishes as opposed to the sushi which was actually pretty good. Would even give it 4 stars, but then again when I asked for tap water, they said they don't serve it. And given that we're in Germany that is as far as I understand illegal. You have access to drinkable water, and you're refusing to give it to someone who is thirsty. Oh well. read more

Cheap place to grab some sushi or a Japanese dish. Can be fast if you are aggressive about getting served, but don't wait for someone to come to you - the girls working here don't care one bit about who gets served when. It can be a little off-putting but food this cheap has it's price to pay! Very very busy on workdays during lunch. Wednesdays and Saturdays are happy days (cheap sushi specials and stuff). When you order you will be served a tea for free that you can fill up again (with hot water). Outside of sushi the Sake-don is really good and under 5 bucks. Overall the place is great if you know what to expect- a cheap cafeteria, not a friendly full service restaurant. read more

Here you can enjoy decent Japanese food (beyond sushi) for modest prices in the very heart of Berlin. The place is not really inviting but simple and welcoming in the end. Fair priced sushi canteen. Packed on a Saturday around lunch time. Service is quick but not particularly caring about your meal experience (i.e. most couldn't care less or at least they appear that way). Sushi are ok but nothing to rave about. My sushi partner in crime told me her fish was fresh and good, so a plus for that. My veggie maki were ok but rice was not particularly fresh. Wouldn't go again. Surely in Berlin one can find much better sushi at that price. read more

Addendum: I tried to go back recently but was rather put off by the odorous atmosphere inside the place. Something must have gone wrong with the ventilation or fumes extraction system. So maybe don't bring anyone you want to impress here for a while till the problem is fixed. read more

This was very poor sushi, and we should have known the second we walked through the door, as we where met with a pretty strong fishy smell... We ordered a variety of dishes to share so we could try what they had to offer. Even do that ordering was pretty hard as the waitress could have been a mute. The result was that we didn't get one of the ordered dishes. When we asked what the difference was between the kinds of Sake, we where met with... nothing. When we pushed for an answer it was that she didn't know as she had never tasted them (or Sake at all, that still remains a mystery). The food arrived and the dish Spicy Tun Maki was to our surprise tuna mousse.. not a spicy mayonnaise together with some tuna. The texture and taste was horrible and we didn't touch it after we had tasted it. Ohh it wasn't spicy either. Another thing is, that there wasn't any soya sauce on the table and we never got any as well.. As we where almost finished eating we overheard that the table next to us where trying to pay, but to their surprise you can only pay with cash... The poor guy was gone for 15 minutes trying to find a ATM machine. To our luck we just had enough cash, and when we asked how they can run a big restaurant without accepting credit cards the answer was "there is a sign at the door stating it" When we left I had a good look at their entrance that's is covered with 10-15 stickers from Yelp, TripAdvisor etc. and in this mess there was a sign, easy missed, and in German only. JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Will I recommend this to anyone, HELL NO read more

The atmosphere and interior design was first turning me off, but the food is quite ok, especially the maguro, which was actually more like ju toro, soft and tasty. The nameko miso shiru was not really tasty. All in all not too bad, but I will come back because of the ju toro read more

This place does tasty Sushi and Japanese rice dishes. I had the eel Ceyros this evening with some Salmon Sashimi was very tasty. The place is really basic just rows of long tables and chairs maybe a bit too loud but who cares when it does great food! read more

I feel so disappointed when writing this review. After eating, when we paid for our lunches, the waitress gave us the money back with a strange attitude but we were having a funny conversation and didn't care that much. Few hours later, I found out that she gave us a FAKE 2-euro coin which looks like a real one! Maybe she thought that we are tourists and just visited once in a life time and did not know that our company is just around the conner! I didnt even want to mention the fact that this restaurant is run by Vietnamese people, not Japanese! Please consider business ethics when running restaurant or hiring employees. hmmm, I was really torn on how many stars to give, but have now decided on three. Simply, because I think the food is great (if you like fish), but the atmopshere is not that great (it seems more like a cafeteria) and the staff is basically non-existent if you go during peak-time like lunch-hour. Also, I think the sushi prices are a bit high and sadly the avocado I had in my sushi did not taste that good. They Cey-Ro they offer here does look delicious though, and the weekly special is a pretty good deal. As far as the menu goes it's mainly Cey-Ro, sushi, and a couple of other dishes. I love japanese food, but am a bigger fan of tempura, curry, noodle soups etc., basically a different side of the japanese cuisine. This is why I am giving 3 stars from my perspective, but I am sure that if you're into all types of fish (not just sea bass and salmon etc.) Ishin had a good menu to offer to you. read more

A standard ishin with unfortunately bad services. Usually, ishin is not bad, but in this one the servants do not like to serve who looks like normal people (with no business attire). They expect you to give more money than you should. My friend and I gave tip 1€ for 18€ bill, and they weren't even pleased, said nothing and just went away after taking the payment. And the bill came about 20-25 minutes after we said that we want to pay. Lunchtime? Good luck for getting yourself a nice lunch time in such a crowded place with especially bad services at lunch. read more

Cheap and very awesome sushi. Love this place. Whilst it can be a bit slow sometimes due to it being so packed.. It's well worth it.

Came here because of guide book review. Very crowded with young people and sone families and a few young men in suits. Seating at sushi bar or community tables with a few small tables. Very noisy and busy at lunch. On entering it smelled strongly of fish and we almost left. Even the Tokyo fish market doesn't smell fishy because its all so fresh so we were worried. Stayed and eventually served by Vietnamese staff who were clearly rushed. Bento box not available, out of Asahi beer, not a good start. Saki from Hollister, CA. Miso soup was very good when one of two orders arrived, the second never came. Edamane came at the end. The "ever full green tea" meant that you had to go to the bar and refill your cup with hot water from the pot using the same tea bag. Yakitori was served after third request. Sushi was fresh with tuna and salmon and good but the tikka maki included fake sea food and was bland. Would not go back. Felt sorry for the very busy staff but they didn't seem to care about us. read more
