There are over 60 mosques in the DFW area and the community continues to grow, work towards building more and expanding in the near future. IAA is very special to me for several reasons, one of which is that I attended the very first fundraiser and was excited to have a mosque so close to home. I love going to Friday prayer, listening to the uplifting khudbah(sermon) and attending taraweeh prayer during Ramadan. The Scholars, Imams put in a lot of effort and dedication to help the community members stay connected. My son attends Sunday school at IAA and he enjoys every moment of it. The teachers provide a perfect balance of learning and play environment for these young kids. I really look forward to going to this peaceful, beautiful mosque every time. They also provide other services such as counseling, activities for the youth, feed your neighbor and so much more. After the expansion is completed, our beautiful mosque will be able to accommodate all the community members needs which is truly a blessing.

There is a huge crowd for Friday prayers so they offer two Jummah timings which is great. The only drawback is that the parking lot doesn't have the capacity to hold the number of cars, especially for the first Jummah prayer but they might extend the parking lot soon to accommodate everyone.

Pretty nice mosque with two Jumu'ah prayer. They also had a Ice Cream truck in the parking lot....not a bad idea considering 100+ degrees. Jumu'ah: 1st Khutba 1:45 PM, 2nd Khutba: 3:00 PM (summer). Its very intimidating to explore other cultures because you know nothing about it. The fear that you will dress inappropriately, overstep boundaries, say the wrong thing or disrespect something very sacred keeps you from going. I have to admit, our anxiety was over the top but we sincerely wanted to learn, so we pushed through the anxiety and went to this event. The temple itself is a beautiful masterpiece no matter what part you visit. The energy is positive, healthy and peaceful. From the moment we walked up, they were welcoming and kind to us, and for that reason that made this an amazing experience!! Many different people throughout the evening was happy to tell us where to go, what was going on, how to participate, what was appropriate and respectful. We learned the meaning behind the Navratri celebration, as well as the deities in the shrine, the rituals, food, traditional dresses, and cultural dances. One volunteer stayed with us the whole time, beaming with pride, so excited to share her culture with us. We are very grateful for her time. The opportunity to be invited in and encouraged to return was humbling. We plan to go back and enjoy more events.

But when there is an Indian festival the entire Independence Pkwy and the temple surroundings becomes a pvery noisy and chaotic place. In fact you will see the Police in full force at such times. But overall the temple is most representative of the entire Indian diaspora that has settled around North Texas - Plano, Frisco and McKinney.
