There are abundance of "impressionist" ocean paintings out there, mostly formulaic, but our focus is to find pictures that capture the moment of being there... like bring in a surfing lineup, or just before I paddle out for surf. That means the images do not have to be photo-realistic (and you got your mobile device camera for that anyway!) What Kate has collected really resonated with my idea of surf paintings should be. And so if you agree with me, this gallery is a well worthwhile stop. For example check out Grant Pecoff's work. A bit whimsical, it really convey the fun of being "out there." And that's what I like. And don't be afraid to ask for the price, many of them are reproduced from the original in the "giclee" and substantially more affordable than the originals. And that's perfect for me.

Grant Pecoff is one of my favorite artists and bought one of his wonderful books as a gift for a friend back home. Hadn't planned to buy anything for myself but when I saw the original watercolor by the artist Coco, it stopped me dead in my tracks. The painting brought back wonderful memories of living in Miami growing up and bobbing happily in the surf for hours. It's called "The Cure" and knew I had to have it. It's now home with me in Colorado and will bring me joy every day! The owner of the The Bright Side (Kate) seems very knowledgeable and was so sweet in working with me to buy the painting.

We recently got married so loved the idea of getting it customized. Best of all, we were able to ship our order altogether with our other purchases when the customized plaque would be ready to ship. We appreciated the convenience since were headed to our honeymoon in a few days. They packaged the ceramic plates tightly and perfectly so when it all arrived, there was no damage. It shipped within a week, very fast! We will cherish our memories of Hawaii and be reminded of that each time we read the blessing.

I made my living as a photographer, so while I always take an interest in others' work, I am not…read moreeasily impressed by the typical souvenir photographic art that is often sold to tourists in places like Hawaii. There is a small enclave of art galleries and shops in Hanapepe where you can find graphics, ceramics, jewelry, and objets d'art. Lee Scott's photo gallery is unique and different. His images are stunning, and many are incredible, even more so when you learn how he made them. His images of Kaua'i are breathtaking, but his most captivating images are of animal life from his travels all over the world, especially Africa. A favorite subject is wild animals, particularly cats. Whether you photograph people or animals, it's how you make eye contact with the subject that makes a great photograph, and Lee is a master. Lee is usually in the shop when he isn't on safari or in some other exotic location. He is a fascinating person, very open, friendly, and cordial. He shared his artistic vision and some of his methods and techniques with me for which I am appreciative. Don't miss an opportunity to visit this gallery.
