We've passed by this shop over a few dozen times over the years & decided to give it a go. The items are handmade from the Koa tree that is found in Hawaii. There are pens, jewelry, bags/purses, wallets, key chains, cutlery, ornaments, vases, kitchen items & other curious artwork displayed for sale. Candace was manning the shop & she was so friendly & welcoming. She even suggested a lady who might be able to create what we're looking for. This lady works from home & has a website (Tropical Isle Music). I love to support local businesses & Candace was so charming, I bought a couple of Aloha Hula girl ornaments & a pineapple (see photo) ornament. There's a few spaces for parking that it shares with Mankoa & a granola shack. It was lovely speaking with Candace, who I learned is actually half Filipino & half Japanese, born & raised in Kaua'i. Her grandfather was one of the first Filipinos who arrived from the Philippines to work in the plantations in Hawaii. It's always interesting to learn about people & their heritage. I've noticed that a particular Reebok dry fit shirt seems to sell for $9.99 for any size, and have learned that it's great to take on trips (easy to hand wash, easy to rinse, quick drying). So noticed that they sold them here too and bought one. Also saw that a comparable Hurley shirt was around the same price, so got one of them too. Both will go into my trip clothing rotation. What's funny is that because the sales tax here is quite a bit lower than where we live (4.5% vs 10.5%), meant it was cheaper to buy it here than in Long Beach. And because of its proximity to the cruise port, there was a lot of new luggage on sale, with a lot of variety.

I successfully found a great handful of cute dresses/outfits (especially from the clearance rack), a couple of bottles of perfume, and shoes. A couple of areas were slightly disorganized, with merchandise on the floor, and the store was fairly busy with a bit of a wait. The staff members were friendly and helpful while working to ensure quick efficiency with the movement of the line. Overall, this Ross is worth stopping by for wonderfully affordable finds while in Līhuʻe.

I swear, this store used to be like a Ben Franklin store over 20 years ago, but I can clearly see it's now a hardware/craft store. I basically came in here to buy some batteries for a combo lock I was working on, as the safe combo lock needed some new batteries. I was in a rush as I was pressed for time, and I had asked my customer on - "where was the closest store" from this bank I was working at? My customer told me that there was an Ace Hardware/ Craft store just down the street from where I was working....... cool! Drove down the street & popped into the store. It was kinda overwhelming when I walked into the store, as this store was big and carried a lot of items. While looking through the isles, looking for the batteries, I guess a clerk (working on the floor) noticed that I needed some help. He walked up to me and offered his assistance, I in turn told him what I came in here for. He quickly led me to the spot where they had this large battery display.......all the batteries I needed. What great customer service I tell you! Grabbed all the batteries I needed, & made a beeline to the checkout stand. Paid for my stuff, and headed straight out the door lickity-split! What a great shopping experience! I think the next time I have more time, I'll stop by here again to check out their tool selection.

Yeah, even while on vacation where I know for a fact that we 100% packed everything we could possibly need for our trip before leaving home... (Trust me, after filling her suitcase, she still uses the other half of my suitcase so I can carry her toiletry bag, her extra pairs of shoes, and like 12 canisters of sunscreen in every SPF who can think of) And just like that, now MY suitcase is nearly full. But just so you know, I purposely was keeping the other half of my suitcase empty for all of the souvenirs and gifts I was gonna get for people back home... Sorry Gigi, guess you're just gonna get another fridge magnet this year cause that's all I can fit. ;) Anyways... So there we were, once again on the beautiful Island of Kauai... And suddenly my wife remembered she needed something and said "let's go to Target in Lihue, I just want to pick up a couple of things." I of course, knew exactly what that meant... "Just a couple of things" would ultimately turn into a "cart full of stuff." Of course, you can bank on it that every single Target trip will either start or end at their in-store Starbucks. So there we were, walking around the Target in Lihue, Kauai approximately 2,600 miles from home... She picked up the things she originally came in for, grabbed a few snacks for the kids, and decided to get some ingredients to make a few meals back at our condo. But then as we continued walking down the aisles, something caught her eye. We were in the back to school section and she was like... "aww look how cute these lunch bags are for the girls lunches when they start school! Oh and they have matching containers for their school snacks too, we need these!" Mind you... It was the middle of summer. We were on an island. On Vacation. In Paradise. But there we were, shopping for lunch bags. At Target. So I said to my wife... "Lunch Bags?" "Shouldn't we just get these at our Target back home?" "Plus, we don't have room in the suitcases" My wife, "I think you have some space in yours" Needless to say, our girls are rocking their new lunch bags thanks to Dad ;) Ok, I'm being a little dramatic, but hopefully you can relate and enjoyed my little tale. But know that those memes you've seen about going to Target for a few things, but land up with a cart full of stuff are Real! Hey, I'm not gonna lie, some of the stuff in the cart is mine too! So what makes this Target stand out? Well for one... The parking lot has chickens and roosters just chillen out front. Of course, this target has all things Hawaiian and you can definitely find some great local merchandise and gifts that you can't get at your local Target location. The store is well stocked, clean and there are plenty of staff to assist. So.... The next time you travel to Kauai... They used to have them planted on lava rocks. There were 4 employees sitting there and when I asked about them. Was kind of rude and said they didn't have them and wouldn't pack anything for shipping. Told me to ask the department of agriculture about it. I was very disappointed. We own a place here in Poipu and have bought all sorts of plants Here. Site says they will ship or pack to ship. Probably won't go back despite the encrediable variety.

Due to the pandemic, be warned that their hours are only Monday through Friday for now. But the staff makes up for the reduced days! They're always around and offering assistance, and they all know their plants. Delivery fees vary by distance. They also have a reward program where you get $10 off a purchase after $250 in purchases. Could be better, in my opinion, but hey, it's something.
