We had been buying filters and other supplies from Rigel for some time, and when our 30 year old tank needed replacing, we asked for an estimate. He came out the same day, and we had the quote the next. Two weeks later, the installation crew actually arrived a bit early, but that was fine with me. They discovered a small collapsed pocket in the lava rock under the old tank that required some extra fill material. This was clearly shown to me and explained, but it was no surprise as the property has a lot of those. The extra fill material was delivered shortly, and the job was still completed in a single day. We needed to replace our 30 year old Doughboy brand above ground pool that was being used as a catchment tank. Contacted Rigel regarding the project by phone and email. Each time he replied or called back within a day. The estimate was clear and included a detail price breakdown of each piece to be installed with labor as a separate line item. I found Rigel to be cordial and focused on the business matter that we were discussing. We decided to drain and remove the old catchment ourselves, thinking it would save money. I do not recommend this as it was extremely difficult and time consuming. Let Island Catchment remove the old catchment, it's well worth the fee they charge! The installation crew arrived on time and they were professional, friendly, and efficient. Additional sand was required to level the installation location that was brought in by Island Catchment and carefully spread. The water truck arrived on time and our new catchment was operational the same day. New catchment was installed in April 2021. I have referred Island Catchment to a neighbor who used their services and also had a positive experience with Rigel and the installation crew. read more

5 stars. Rigell was great to work with. He came through at every aspect from estimates, planning and building our water system. We were in the mainland during most of it and Rigell handled it. His estimates lay out a detailed price sheet down to every nut, bolt and turnbuckle. Gotta go with these guys. read more

Rigel is not the most warm and fuzzy guy in the world as is expressed in other reviews, (I feel like he wouldn't disagree with that) but honestly I have no idea why people think that's a necessary trait to have for your catchment water expert. He's not a TV game show host. He is a water catchment system expert... and a very good one! When it comes to knowing his stuff and what to recommend to you to fix any issue you may have with your catchment system, there is no one better. Also, frankly you have two choices for catchment supplies and expertise on this side of the island. This place and the place in Hilo. The place in Hilo is less helpful and the staff is less knowledgable than Rigel. Every time I've gone into the store, he answered all of my annoying questions and educated me on catchment systems and provided me with all of the filters and supplies I needed. First of all, the guy doesn't answer his phone. And is closed randomly. Took me days to get ahold of him. But most importantly, he's terrible to work with. You'd better hope your entire transaction goes flawlessly or he will point the finger at you, moan and groan and blame YOU for his incompetence. He's got a chip on his shoulder, it's actually sad to witness. We would rather pay more, drive to Kona or have items shipped than to deal with his bad attitude and poor service. I love to support local so it's a shame. He's his own worst enemy but will probably never realize it. read more

Stay away!!! Rigel is awful with people and has a chip on his shoulder. We tried to hire them to do our catchment, it was impossible to coordinate anything with him. He takes a very adversarial attitude with customers. I have never been insulted to strongly by a business, it was a very bad experience. If anything goes sideways, expect him to blame you rather than actually trying to solve whatever issue might come up. read more

My catchment went dry, needed delivery asap. They answered the phone, advised me their schedule was full today, but took the time to tell me what search terms to use (water hauling, which I did not know as a term, so it helped tremendously compared to searching for "water delivery") and even gave me a referral. I have tried calling other pla and got no answer, left a message, got no call back. These people get 5 stars because they answ the phone, were honest, and very helpful. Because of that, I have water delivery scheduled within hours. read more

The guy that works at the front desk has horrible customer service. I don't expect much just common courtesy. I get we all have bad days but I've been in 3 times and every time he is a total ass. That being said they have had everything I've needed in stock and it's nice to have a place in Puna for our water needs. But they should hire someone to deal with the public. read more

We set up our appt for 8:30 or 9:00, and I called at 9:30 since they hadn't arrived yet. The guy said they had other jobs which was fine and they arrived about 10:30. When they got here, they found that they had the wrong size and had to go back and get the right size. When I set up the appt, I told the guy we had a 10,000 gallon doughboy, and he assumed a size based on current tanks. He never asked me to measure to be sure and I trusted the expert. The guy who came to set it up said it was exactly as we said but an older model that they don't make anymore so the dimensions were different. He also mentioned we would be saving a little money because the setup was smaller. The guys who set up the tank system were great even giving my boyfriend advice on a problem we were having with our pump. I called the office the next day to ask some questions... They left some rubber pieces so I wanted to know if that was something they forgot or something we needed to put on; they also left some tools which I wanted to return. When I spoke to the guy in the office, he explained how to install the rubber pieces. When I mentioned getting a refund for the difference in size, he said it was my fault because I had the wrong size tank. The guy who installed said it was the other guys mistake because it's an older tank that is no longer made. He said that we shouldn't get a refund because it took the guys 45 minutes to go back to the office and exchange for the right size. I mentioned we waited over an hour for them to arrive, and he told me that he didn't think we set up a real time! He finally agreed to the $60 refund but asked if we could split the difference. After all that hassle and the way he treated me, I did not give in. He reluctantly took my credit card number and agreed to refund me. We spent over $600 on the setup and he was trying to keep an extra $30 because he felt wronged. As someone who owns/ manages a business, he should have given me better customer service. Maybe as the main supplier in this area, he thought that customer service didn't matter. As he gave me the refund anyway, he should have been more gracious and I would have been a happy and returning customer. I still gave 3 stars because the guys who did the install were 5, the office guy a 0. read more
