Absolutely the BEST surfing experience in Waikiki! If you're anywhere near the Hilton Hawaiian Village (or honestly, even if you're not), this surf school is a total must-do--for your kids and for you! Just steps from the beach and super easy to reach via Uber/Lyft if you're not staying at the Hilton. We booked a session with Eddie, and let me tell you--he's not just a surf instructor, he's a full-on wave whisperer. My two teens (who've got more in common with uncoordinated sea turtles than athletes ) were riding waves like pros within minutes. Eddie has the perfect combo of patience, skill, and pure aloha energy. You will feel like a surfer by the end! Pro Tips for the Best Experience: ‍ Arrive early to find the bus, get changed, and meet Eddie--plus, parking can be tight so give yourself wiggle room Get the GoPro or video package--these memories are once-in-a-lifetime and so worth capturing Bring SPF & towels--Eddie provides the boards and all the gear you need Go for the 1.5-hour session--especially if you're new. It gives you time to learn, practice, and actually surf This was hands down one of the top highlights of our Oahu trip. Whether you're 7 or 70, nervous or stoked--Eddie will get you riding waves and smiling ear to ear. Don't miss this!

Shoutout to Eddie!!!! Truly the best instructor I've encountered in any specialty. First time surfing & he helped me understand everything needed in order to succeed!! I practiced the day after and everything he said still stuck. That's how you know he's a great teacher. Eddie if you see this, I stood up on my own the next day too (: thank you for all of your patience, kindness, encouragement, faith in me, and genuine love. You're part of what makes Hawaii so special! I hope everyone gets to experience this too!

Eddie at Island Fiel Surf was awesome. Our surf lesson ended up being the highlight of our trip. My daughter and I both caught waves, and while we were out there a turtle swam by--which was awesome. Eddie kept it fun and relaxed, made us feel comfortable, and really knew how to get us up on the board. The GoPro footage and pictures turned out great too. If you're looking for a legit surf lesson and a good time, Eddie's your guy.

Uncle Eddie had our four year old begging for more! He is so fun and patient. Even offered boards to us so we could join the line up and not bake in the sand. One of a kind experience that already has our little guy begging for a board for his birthday! Highly recommended to anybody looking for a rad time. Stoked.

Eddie was amazing! No matter what your skill set is, he will have you catching waves by the end of your season!

Eddie made us feel like family! He was thorough in his teachings, was personable, and attentive. He was great at capturing the best moments of our time in the water through video and pictures. We will never forget this experience. Thank you Eddie!

They have easy online booking options and they sent you an email right away to sign a waiver. It's a little hard to find as it's between the Denny's and a parking lot, so just be vigilant while walking. They have a little shop with a receptionist and the instructors. There's a QR code for tipping your instructors which was convenient considering you're so tired after the lesson. I felt comfortable leaving all my stuff in the office (even shoes) as we walked across the street to the beach. My instructor, James, first practiced my footing, head placement, and movement. Then we paddled out, and he held my board the entire time. I got to enjoy the view prop my head on my board and give Ms. America waves even though no one was looking. That alone is worth all the money. James gave me tips and tricks each wave he pushed me in. Telling me to balance more on the right foot, etc. I felt like I had also paid to hang out with someone really cool. The vibes on the break were so chill. Everyone knew each other and were respectful with waves of hello and aloha. This is a must do in Waikiki. The waves were so soft on my beginner board and they have a 99.9% rate of success. James said he was able to help a 84 year old catch and stand up in a wave. Remarkable!!! I caught six waves and it felt incredible. I'm wiped out and exhausted, but so satisfied and excited for my next lesson. What a treat! I highly recommend Ty Gurney- ask for James!!

They towed them pretty far out, where it was less crowded. They saw turtles! One tip - our kids wore wetsuits (which we brought) because they are skinny and get cold.

I was put in an odd spot. Surely not in my comfort zone…read more You see, a friend from Japan came to Hawaii and when asked what he wanted to do, surfing came up. As a local boy born and raised in Oahu, I'm embarrassed by the fact that I cannot swim. Surfing clearly out of the picture. I used to work in the Japanese tour agency many blue moons ago where I recall a surfing school that offers surfing lessons. My friend already knows how to surf so I didn't think this was for him so I asked one of my physical therapists who surfs regularly. He introduced me to a surfing school that's at Ala Moana Beach where I was given their website, which is also available in Japanese. I forwarded the information to my friend prior to his arrival to Honolulu where he didn't jump at it and said he'd think about it. On his arrival I drove him to his hotel on Kalakaua Ave and upon check in we saw a rack of surfboards nearby where I asked if they were rentals. The staff advised the boards belong to the in-house guests who were keeping them as storage while not in use. When asked about rentals, the front desk staff advised us to inquire with Moku Hawaii (MH) as their rates are 1/2 to what the businesses are asking for across the street on the beach. MH has been in business since 1985 where they hail from Japan. They started off as a clothing company but transitioned over to a surf shop offering surf lesson and rental business. We walked over and soon found MH, which is on the 1F at the corner of Koa Ave and Uluniu Ave. We were greeted by a friendly, young female staff who welcomed us and answered our multiple questions. With its locality, reasonable rates and customer service, my friend liked MH and decided to look no further. While checking out their inventory, my friend noticed hard boards and was hoping for soft boards. The staff guided us to those soft boards where it's available in either long or short. You will need to complete their rental form which to our surprise is quite flexible. For example, you can initially request for a 2 hr package but in the event you go overcast, you just pay the difference of $5, which is the price difference between 2 hr course and the next course of up to 4 hrs. MH gives back to the community as they sponsor multiple local keiki surf contests. That's so awesome. So, if you should be in a bind where someone asks you for a surf school in Waikiki, look no further and guide them to MH. We were surprisingly impressed with their surf shop and their amazing customer service. They open from 6am and close at 8pm
