Eddie and Johnny were amazing and there was no other way to describe it. They made me and my daughter feel comfortable right away, gave us the info we needed and the info we didn't know that we needed, and got us up and surfing right away. I picked Island Fiel because they advertised they were fantastic with kids. This was 100% true. Eddie and Johnny were so talkative and chatty with my 9yo and totally have her stoked on surfing. She had never done any board sports on the water and she picked it up in no time. I had a few experiences prior but this session was by far my best. Had an absolute fantastic time with my partner and Eddy the instructor! He was friendly, laid back, and gave us as much information as he could before getting in the water. The waves were perfect and not too big or powerful and he put the go pro on our boards so we could catch the entire experience but still took pictures through out the experience as well! We actually were able to stand and catch a few waves with Eddy's help and we even got to see a sea turtle while being out there! 7 am was a great time the water wasn't cold and the surf hadn't gotten too crowded yet! My kids finally seemed to have found something they can do together and now cannot wait to go back surfing again!! Hands down would recommend Eddie to any one of any age and skill level wanting to learn how to surf! He is not only super knowledgeable, he shares his experience and skills in a way that makes even the most nervous and timid person walk away more confident and eager to continue surfing. Came to Waikiki for Mother's Day weekend with my 18 year old daughter. She's had friends try to teach her to surf back home in the Bay Area and she never felt confident and comfortable in the ocean until she learned from Eddie. From the moment we met him for her lesson, he was friendly and witty. I told him she was really nervous and he assured us both that she was in good hands. He has a cool set up in a convenient location right next to the harbor and the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Super accessible and easy to find. After a very thorough land demo and getting her outfitted with all the gear she needed to have a great time on the water we all headed to the beach. What I was really impressed by was the level of details he gave her in the land instructions. He definitely covered everything from form, technique and safety standpoint. As a parent this was extremely important to me. Knowing my daughter would be safe and having fun put my mind at ease. Once we were on the beach, Eddie captured so many memorable pictures and videos on his GoPro that he sent us after her lessons. Talk about the full package deal with this instructor. It's obvious that he loves surfing and he's a natural teacher. He kept reassuring us that she will be able to catch waves on this first lesson and as much I wanted to believe him, there was a small part of me that kept thinking he's a good salesmen! Eddie did not disappoint, he delivered on every promise and she not only caught her first wave but literally every wave after that. Don't bother looking elsewhere, Eddie is the best instructor out there! Let me tell you about Eddie. Where to begin with this man! the legend! The surf instructor supreme. I am anything, but easygoing. I am high strung, work-a-holic who would put life and limb for my company with little return. But this isn't about me. It is about Eddie and how he assessed my situation within the first 10 minutes before even touching a board. Went over the basics, but gave me solid technique and potentially life-saving knowledge. But the most important piece of wisdom he bistowed on me was, just enjoy the ride. While I was out there, he could immediately read my form and suggest adjustments, stayed close to keep me from getting in the way of others out there, but was far from babying me. Eddie's style is to keep it fun and not take things so seriously. Although I was tense as a downpour started as we began to paddle out, I could not stop cracking a smile because of how hilarious he is. Although he's a long-time transplant to the area, he introduced me to the amazing community on this one small beach, everyone was super supportive, and he even got me to stand up! The moment I stood up on that board, and heard surfers ten years my younger cheering me on, I was immediately on Hawaiian Time. It wasn't about being perfect on the first try, but just living in the moment. Surf lessons have been something I have always wanted to do and I am hooked for life. Yes catching my first wave was amazing, but what I will never forget was the shaggy teacher that got me to relax on vacation. Sometimes you just got to leave it all behind, and just ride the wave. Our Midwest family of 6 came to HI on vacation & wanted the kids to try surfing. We got way more than a tourist introduction to surfing-- Eddie was unbelievable! He picked us up from our hotel in a very nice & comfortable van. He immediately engaged the kids in witty conversation & established a rapport with all of us. When we got to the beach, Eddie set up my husband & I with reclining beach chairs and an umbrella to watch in comfort while he worked with the kids. He hustled to pull everything they would need from his well-stocked van. The kids were given water shoes, rash-guards, and boards with leashes. Eddie gave them each a quick board lesson on land, along with safety instructions, & then took all four out on the water for the time of their lives. He even attached a Go-Pro to their surfboards & took pictures and video on the water, which he gave us on a personalized DVD. We all started out a bit nervous and within minutes, each of the kids (3 boys & 1 girl) were at ease. Watching the video afterwards, my husband and I were super impressed with how he handled the kids and the care he took with them on the water. Go surfing with Eddie!!!
