Care and staff on recent visits zero issues, would be a 5 star review... However billing issues and complete incompetence of the office staff makes a positive review a challenge. While I have no issues with mistakes on billing, I have serious issues when they make mistakes and expect me to be responsible. Sadly I had to prove the issue, push back firmly and loudly yet they still refused to correct the issue until I was able to show the error. Oddly I got copied on an internal e-mail proving they had an error and the system is "constantly an issue"... So they have issues and know it yet expect patients to prove the errors... Wow! I asked for a followup from management, Nope never happened. So if you use Island Health document everything. Get it in writing and save it. My experience says you will need it. read more

I did not want to leave this review but serious mistakes were made. I went to Island health for complications relating to Hepatitis B which I have had since birth. Knowing this, Dr. Peterson chose not to perform basic hands-on examinations of my abdomen but instead wrote in my medical file (in detail) that he did this as well as physical examination of my neck and listening to my lungs, which he also did not do. When confronted, he refused to allow me to amend this mistake in my medical file which is required under RCW laws. Dr. Peterson than ordered the wrong ultrasound and totally missed stage 3 liver failure which the GI specialist found using elastography ultrasound as he should have done. This hospital is HORRIFIC! DO NOT GO HERE! The nurses are absolutely terrible and so so mean. I was visiting someone I knew at this hospital and while I was there, many elderly people were on floor 2 admitted, there was one man who had a fall risk sign on his door and the door was open, his bedrails were up and he was grabbing onto them, thrashing himself around and yelling! No one was around to do anything! A few of the nurses taking care of the person I was there for were awful! They were grossly negligent, not following infection prevention at ALL! Giving pills multiple times with no gloves! Pushing medication through an IV with no gloves! When in obvious pain the nurses were continuously rough with their body! I could not believe my eyes! Many of the nurses were extreamly rude and it was absolutely unacceptable how much they were breaking protocol. Even more to add! When the meal tray was delivered, the name wasn't checked and they just left and someone from the persons family had to feed her! THAT IS A NURSE OR NURSES ASSISTANTS JOB!!!! It is a protocol in any hospital to confirm the name and date of birth when delivering food or else it can cause allergic reaction or even death! Overall this hospital is terrible, the service is bad, there is faulty equipment and broken equipment, malpractice and negligence throughout the entire hospital. read more

That doctor was not on our plan, so after being seen, they stuck us with a $2,000 bill, saying it was our responsibility to confirm the doctor was in the plan. read more

I had a wonderful experience at Island Health for my recent mammogram. The quality of care was exceptional. I had scheduled an appointment a month in advance and something came up so I had to reschedule. I had a wonderful conversation with scheduling and they were able to get me in the day following my scheduled day with not problem. On the day of my appointment, their was a short wait for registration since it was lunch time. The person checking me in was in training. Obviously, she had a great trainer, who was sitting next to her. She was friendly and did a great job. I maybe had to wait 2 minutes in the waiting area. The tech was very friendly and explained everything. I was out of my appointment in 10 minutes. My results came by the patient portal not even 48 hours after the appointment. read more

The entire team in the Oncology department truly made our experience amazing. We felt so cared for every day and the level of care we have received is exceptional. ER Experience; By far the worst hospital I've ever been to!! Don't go here! I'm sitting here the waiting room at midnight Thursday been waiting to be seen Wednesday at 4 pm! Yet people who have been here for two or three hrs have got see before and got medication and and went home already. This lady pee on the floor two hrs ago I told the nurse and they said will get to it. No one has clean that up still. This place is a joke and so unsanitary and gross. The nurse are completely and absolutely rude and horrible mean! I was supposed to get an X-rays but they didn't call my full name or ask the other patient last name and birthdate till after they did the X-ray then they realized they had the wrong person in there. They called me back and explained it to me and I was like wtf you got to be kidding me. Then took a ton bloodwork and stuck and iv and left me sitting in the waiting for the 8 hrs. Won't help me at all! The IV is horrible done the needle is so dirty this place lots of help where is the management and the cleaning cure, where the staff and politeness and caring for the patients or dying in here and you don't care. Then I called on there red phone asked why is all these other people are getting see before me and going home before me!? The nurse called me a sir!!! I'm female!! WTF!!!! I was so pissed ! Stay clear of this place I would rather die then come here. I would rather go to Seattle hospital then this place. I would probably would of had answers and got see by a doctor and got told what wrong with me and sent home by like 3 hrs ago if I was at a different hospital. Type of care, excellent, from the moment you check in you are treated like a person, every person contacted was courteous and respectful.

They promote excellence they demonstrate the worst possible care extraordinarily bad they all about hype and they are all about the money and not about patient care. There is no doctor on call at the urgent Care they will spin you if you have glass in your foot you will get a foot soak for 1 hour and your insurance will be billed astronomical you will not get to talk to a doctor in a few request medical records they know nothing about it you will have to know that the paperwork exists. There's not a doctor they hire an arnp on call nurse instead to provide urgent Care and cannot doesn't even bother to observe or look at your problem if you have glass in your foot. If you've been to the emergency room from another hospital and you've had an ongoing problem in your foot they will not cause records to be forwarded they will not retrieve records and they know nothing about it you'll have to go up to the desk and you'll have to request the papers to fill out you'll have to inform them they do not even want to learn about it . when you request a call back to speak to the physician because there is no physician when you appear for urgent Care you're sent home with nothing and you request that call from a physician and you get a call back from a clerk who knows nothing and they hang up on you then they send you another text message that they are trying to call you back what kind of department store run around do you need when you have glass embedded in your foot and you have an infection and there's no one to care for you help you get it out I'm asking my 13-year-old daughter to cut into my foot and probe around and try to find the broken glass there's no medical help at Island hospital for this. I tried for 3 weeks to schedule a colonoscopy and had a referral. I was not able to access a patient portal due to some glitch on their end and thet and confirmed that they knew about that. They told me to call a number which I did daily for 3 weeks. They called back at 3 random times never during the days and times I left vm they I was available so they ask to just keep calling the number they never answer. I had heard bad things about this hospital so typically avoid it but I thought they could handle a simple screening. Guess not.... read more

I called to schedule a mammography in July 2021 and they said they would get my comparisons and call me to schedule. I called the office 6 additional times requesting the status with no return call and subsequently one year later I still dont have an appointment or access to care in my community. That barrier creates opportunities for delayed diagnosis and in some cases could be the difference for survival for some women. THIS IS NOT THE STANDARD OF CARE! If you want to serve your community you need better systems, we cant depend on your Historian ( Krista ) to close the loop! read more

When possible I have all my tests and imaging done here. Checkin is friendly and prompt. Wait times minimal. Staff often escort you to your next appointment, if they have time. I've noted no lack of sanitary protocol, but neither excessive. Parking is plentiful and nearby. Interior is clean and modern. Being there feels like lobby of nice hotel....not a dingy overcrowded hospital. read more

I wish this was a better place. Very very unorganized, but does have some good doctors. Avoid getting stuck here during a shift change. You might get forgotten and feel like you're in jail. Also, I was told by a nurse that I looked like I was a sexy kris kringle on my way to get an appendectomy. Island Hospital's birth center was wonderful. All the nurses were SO kind and thoughtful and polite even though they were working around the clock as it had been a busy weekend for births. All the staff were fantastic. My overall experience with the hospital was great. Everyone there is not only capable but also seem to really enjoy helping people. Was supposed to be induced today, knowing I've been in a lot of pain and can barley walk today was supposed to be the day. The birth center called an hour before I was supposed to head in telling me they couldn't do it today because 3 women went into labor. That's understandable but you guys need more staff. Doesn't make any sense to me. Absolutely love my OBGYN though, if it wasn't for her I would give this place 0 stars if possible. Days later and they keep pushing my inducement back. They keep giving me appointments and canceling. This is the worst hospital I've ever been to, I will never delivery a child here after this one. read more

HORRIBLE HOSPITAL. Where to start. 1) I went in because I fainted, hit my head directly on concrete, and experienced several head lacerations. Island Hospital kept me overnight to run tests, assured me that I would be out of the hospital by 6am the next morning, then ignored me until 2pm the following day. I had a flight to catch so I repeatedly asked to leave throughout the day and they ignored me while not giving me updates. 2) Patient Billing. I submitted an appeals document shortly after receiving an incredibly high bill in January 2021. My insurance provider reached out to Island Hospital soon after, and it's been a year and Island Hospital still hasn't reviewed my appeal. Not only that, but they sent me to collections for my bill even though their payment portal was not working and they didn't help me pay despite numerous calls. (side note: they charged me over $140 for flu vaccine without telling me, $125 for COVID test, and many more ridiculous charges.) Plus, they conveniently "forgot" to mention that one of the doctors who evaluated me was out-of-network despite me confirming that the hospital was in-network, which resulted in other bills in the thousands of dollars. 3) Malpractice. Regarding that head injury I suffered. They never told me I had experienced a concussion. The following days I was dizzy, vomiting, and suffering from migraines. I went to another hospital and they immediately diagnosed me with a concussion after examining me and hearing my story. I was driving, working on my computer, and doing other damaging things post-concussion because Island Hospital never properly diagnosed me. read more

The pathology report from my biopsy was delayed in being sent to the Seattle Cancer Center by OVER 30 days!!! Despite the Seattle hospital repeatedly asking for it. Island Health told me that a lymph node biopsy would be done at the same time as the breast biopsy. And, that it would be marked 'urgent.' Neither of these things happened. The 'nurse' or whoever the message board person is gave me consistently contradictory and often incorrect information. The doctor's lack of attention to the possibilities of cancer delayed the whole thing by many months. The person in charge of receiving complaints NEVER called me back!! Though everyone I have spoken with is upon casual meeting very nice, the place is a dysfunctional mess. NEVER go there if there is any chance whatsoever of it being serious! read more

ER:Incredibly disrespectful staff, unprofessional and also unsanitary. They place needles without proper PPE and the nurses will have unprofessional conversations in regarding the patients near the patients. Not only is this unprofessional but also is a breach of HIPPA to disclose any information that is not regarding a patient plan or health. Instead they have taken upon themselves to use patient information to state that the visit is not a medical emergency and discuss their thoughts not relating ti healI do not recommended coming here if you believe they treat every human being with respect. The only "positive" experience we had was with the lab tech who was great at conversation and understanding PPE protocols. During the time I spent here waiting in the emergency room we were rarely ever updated about ongoing lab results or anything. When the dr asked how we were doing after finally getting around to step in (5 hrs later) she stated that they have had a busy night and basically can't do the extra mile to complete our request of updates. The entire time we were sat in a hallway near the restroom. There was overflowing trash out of the bins! It has been ridiculous need to say and as someone who has worked in the health field I can't stress enough how terrible the service is here. read more

After I wrote my last review things went down hill rapidly. People that had helped me apparently got into a lot of trouble and were told to remind me that of course they'd help but they real jobs were such and such and oh by the way thank you gifts no matter how cheap or funny were unacceptable. Suddenly and unfortunately more important, prescription medication insurance paper work was lost. Messages weren't getting to physicians from insurance companies or from me. I'm not sure what happened but I'm truly saddened by this change. It was never my intention to get anyone in trouble or cause problems for anyone. I just know I'm not getting some much needed medication and some much needed tests are not getting done in a timely manner. I didn't know good reviews and appreciation of kindnesses could cause such a deterioration in service. read more

I'm not sure how the rest of the hospital is but the diagnostic imaging center has overbooked themselves and rescheduled my MRI repeatedly. Next day isn't available so the rescheduling is for weeks down the road only to receive another call the week of to have it rescheduled again which has caused this to take months to be seen. read more

NOT IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT. I was denied care there. I have had a stroke which severely affected my dominant hand. I needed help in filling out the forms. There was no help given. The intake person insisted I "do my best" to complete the forms. I tried to make her understand that it was impossible. She kept repeating to "do your best". That's like saying to a paralyzed person "Do your best" to walk a bit to the desk where she would help you. I was embarrassing and frustrating. I sat in the crowd hoping to see a nurse who would understand my condition and my need for help. No such luck. The intake clerk passed by me and wanted the forms. She saw that no significant progress had been made, and the finial insult was received..."Sir, if you don't fill out those forms, NO-ONE will see you". So I left in frustration, anger, embarrassment, and with my condition untreated. Avoid this place, especially if you have any speech or writing disabilities. read more

Best bet is don't go here I had asked to be discharged three different times within three different years back in 2020 or 19 I had asked to be discharged because they didn't want to help me because of my back pain by saying I was lying that's what happens back in 2021 in the beginning of the year I had to go in and get back surgery because that's the only place the doctor was allowed to do it I was only supposed to day there for a night what happens I get treated rudely in the morning by a lady because I was simply asking about an IV. Then yesterday on 10th of Sep I go with her because I'm trying to figure out how to control the nausea the vomiting the cramping the dizziness from my pregnancy that I don't want I didn't know they don't offer anything to stop the fetus from growing but they decided to ring me around for about two hours telling me they're providing me stuff saying they gave me IV fluids in reality there's none in the room the nurse that was saying that there was something I said show me it's supposed to be hanging up saying all it so dramatically I made her feel stupid because she asked me I don't get it what's the difference between fluid and fluids ‍ They didn't even give my discharge papers they were so quick to give me the nausea meds though and then tell me I'm sorry I'm sorry over and over when in reality they should've just done their job right read more

I got the Island Hospital Emergency department at about 1345. I was called into triage at about 1355... Here we are, my sister and I, it is 1709 hours and I'm still sitting here in the waiting room.. 5 people who were here AFTER me have gone back... I'm sitting here with a severe cold, wheezing in and out from my asthma, throat feels like broken glass is cutting me all over and my ear feels like someone is stabbing my ear drum with a knife but hey that couple who was clearly jonsing (sp) for a fix, who were eating non stop and goofing around deserved to go back. I understand fully that is is severity based. I also understand that if a child or elderly person comes in, please take them back before me.. but to take people back who are joking around, not having trouble breathing, going in and out to smoke a cigarette.. ridiculous. I have a head cold of some sort. I am using my inhaler like clock work, wheezing still, nonetheless but hey it's whatever. I've NEVER had to wait 4 hours plus to be seen when it involves my asthma giving me an issue. So peeved right now. I have started crying bring that 8 pain level out of 10 to an even 10 now. Thanks island hospital. No compassion... When you were a small town hospital it was about helping the patients not making them sit in waiting room, in tears, in pain waiting to be told what is wrong. I should of just gone to Whidbey general but it's too late now. I could be home sleeping but I NEED to know what's going on.... And a doctor can tell me that and I know there has to be more than one doctor in the department.. I can keep complaining but nothing will come of it.. just an even longer waiting time... read more

I was extremely sick and needed to see a doctor, so since it was a Saturday I went to the walk in clinic here. The receptionist working there was beyond friendly and caring. She was very sweet and helped to try to make me feel calm since I was sort of distraught from being so sick. Due to my symptoms, they ended up sending me over to the ER where I was seen right away. The nurses were all wonderful, and they all explained every step of the way what tests/treatments they were giving me. The doctor was fine, although I did feel like the way she talked came off a bit disingenuous at times, but overall my experience here was positive. They were able to help me control my symptoms, diagnose what was wrong, and get me on my way. read more

i was going in for an xray and was not greeted by reception, when she did finally come over she admitted that she knew where i worked and was trying to avoid me. got into my xray room, the radiologist also knew where i worked and started to insult my work and tell me stories of the horrible things they have done. i cannot believe that medical professionals could treat patients this way. no matter color, creed or type of employment they have. discrimination has no place in a hospital folks. i will be filing a complaint for this and never will myself or my family ever go to this hospital again. read more

My husband was having a stroke. They wouldn't call anyone in to do an MRI. Reason it's the weekend! one dr said he's having a heart attack!?!? They wouldn't listen to me. One nurse said he's having a headache. They even called the chaplain in. He Wasn't even out in ICU. The ER nurse was wonderful great nurse. While my husband was having a brain bleed an angel from ICU came in and took over. She took him to ICU so finally after 12 hrs of watching my husband suffer. This angel got him set up to go to harborview who did emergency surgery. If it wasn't for this nurse I think he would be dead. I heard another story like this from two other people so it's not a one time thing. In fact a nurse at the hospital told me she won't even use this place. read more
