it was time to renovate our 2004 built guest bathroom and we wanted to covert the bathtub/shower to a walk-in shower. we looked at two companies, the first is a national brand that promises a bathtub shower conversion in one day. We met with the sales person who provided us a plan cost for the renovation. They were very limited as to what they could do. The one thing that I did not like was that it would've been piece fiberglass type of modular unit. The other thing I like was that it would've required a step over into the shower space. We went to Island Homes and Renovations showroom in Vero Beach and met with the owner J. J. first of all the showroom is gorgeous and has many different examples on display. They had a large variety of tile and fixtures for us to look at as well. JJ is so knowledgeable about the renovations and homes that he was able to give us a ballpark price of what we were looking at as we find tuned the details of what we want. The price was just slightly higher than the other company, but it was exactly what we wanted. So we decided to contract with him and we could not be more pleased with the result. It pulling permits and inspections, which is what we wanted and we got exactly what we asked. The entire experience was well worth it. The new shower is gorgeous. It was very easy working with JJ and his team. They were always on time and they were immaculate with whatever process they were involved in. I cannot speak more highly about them. Would NEVER use this company again nor recommend this company to anyone. Our project was a complete bathroom remodel and to change a guest room tub/shower to a walkin shower . It took 3 1/2 months. Actual time worked was approx. 2 months. (Lots of down time with no work being done). Supposedly 2 workers were fired and 3 workers quit. Some Building Dept. inspections failed and needed more time to fix and reinspect. No project manager unless you consider JJ the project manager. He only came out to our project 4 times and 2 of those visits were only to pick up a check. JJ's attitude got worse as time went on. He wanted to come and pick up a check for work that was in progress (Tile). At 1:00 pm that day the tile work was far from done. Tile was not installed in either shower and the tile walls in both showers needed more work. JJ launced into a "vicious "F Bomb" tirade against me - no conversation just verbal assaults. I told him when this phase of the project was done, he'd get paid. He then stated his workers don't like working for us and don't like my husband or I. Ironically this contridicted what the workers told us about JJ, such as "JJ is crazy". I asked him why he was talking like this to me and hung up on him after he continued to hurl the "F Bombs" at me. We questioned some of the work done and again JJ was aggraviated. The he insisted that his worker was annoyed because my husband constantly watched him - NOT true. NO such thing like the Customer is always right (except for Maria, she was great). Anger Management much needed with this company. As the project was nearing completion, we had enough. We skipped the Punch List. My husband fixed most of the small items and we hired a plumber to fix other outstanding items. At this point, we just wanted the project ended, JJ & workers gone, and to regain use of our bathrooms. He was rude, used bait and switch, and stated many times if payment wasn't made within the hour of receiving the bill, he would stop work! These are just a few of many major red flags. We have built two homes and remodel many, this was the worst experience for us! Stopped in to Island Homes showroom to schedule an appointment to discuss a home renovatio. Maria the office manager was a delight. she made the appointment and JJ was told was the owner of the business came out to the house. we walked thru and we talked about the rooms and what we want done. He left saying we would get the rough estimate. I had it a few hours later wow that was fast. I had one question about the estimate and called the office and spoke to Maria. She said she would check for me. The next day (today) I get a phone call and it was JJ and he said he sent another email with clarification. I asked JJ if he understood what we were wanting because I thought the estimate was alittle low? JJ went so defensive, because I was questioning the estimate. I was like wow I can't believe this guy was acting like this. I told him maybe our personalities would not be a good working relationship. And I hung up the phone call. He texted me after that This is what he wroteI I feel the same exact way. I was very very detailed in our quote. Then you second guess my pricing never in my life have I had someone say that ever. We don't take advantage of anyone period. That's why we stay extremely busy. We are employee based we don't have to get prices from subcontractors and then mark up our prices. I was very detailed with you and I could clearly tell the other company wasn't. With that being said I hope you find a company that will do you right because we would have like we have for years and years !! For bless you You know it takes a lot for someone to get under my skin and you did. Second guessing my quote. When I spent over 3 hours on it and going over all the pictures I took to make sure it was very detailed. We win best general contractor award every year here for a reason. We maintain a A plus rating with the BBB for a reason. We care as a company. It's because we treat every customer the same. We show up on time for estimates. I invested 100,000 of thousands of dollars on a showroom so people could see exactly what there getting and the quality of our work. We hired employees that we can make sure we give the best workmanship for all customers. Make sure the jobs get completed on time I want to make sure that every customer feels like there treated like my family like I treat all my employees. Also you saved money on me coming out because I didn't have to pay a commission to a salesman. So when you come back and tell me my price was low. I never hear that ever where usually in the middle. We don't take advantage of anyone. I want everyone's business for the rest of their lives period. The price you received is a fair price for what you described to me. Thats why we stay in busy because we treat people fair !!! Sorry we couldn't earn your business but like you told Maria some peoples personalities clash. I've never ever had that happen but it is what it is. All I know is we would have done your home the right way the first time and not taken advantage of you or your daughter!!!! My interaction with Island Homes actually started out pretty well. The initial experience seemed positive. While not particularly inexpensive, they were able to begin work on my condo in relatively short order and the first stage of work was done satisfactorily. When the second phase of work was started, I was not in town but was routinely contacted by the foreman running the job. He was pleasant to deal with and kept me up to date on his progress through what he communicated was completion of everything. Unfortunately, when I got back into town, there were aspects of the contract that had not been fulfilled. No big deal- I contacted them and informed them that there were still things that needed to be completed and asked if I should contact the foreman directly to coordinate. I was told he was no longer with the company. This is where things went south. The general manager, JJ, immediately became hostile but did tell me they would finish the last aspects which amounted to probably 3% of the total contract. Despite scheduling being very difficult as JJ was routinely ducking my calls, ultimately they did come out and measure for a door that was supposed to have been installed as part of the contract. In short, the first door they ordered was the wrong size and could not be installed. They did not call me to arrange for a replacement, I had to chase them down. Ultimately, they did come out and install a door that fit but was the wrong style- which they (JJ) admitted to. They re-ordered the door in the correct style and came to install it but again it was the wrong size. The installer called the shop and was told to bring the door that fit correctly back so that it could be measured. My wife who was home at the time told the installer that she didn't want to do that because, based on our experience, it could be months before a replacement was installed and that they obviously had the correct measurements because the one door, while being the wrong style, fit the opening just fine. The installer told my wife that was reasonable and left. The next thing I know, this guy JJ texts me (at this point he will not get on a phone call) to inform me that my wife kicked his worker out of our house and that they would not be coming back to finish the job "period". First off, this is not possible as my wife is entirely incapable of that sort of interaction and second, this was not an error on our part- this was all due to JJ's incompetence. It was then that I started asking around and began to find out that JJ cannot keep employees, does not have repeat customers and in the words of one of his workmen, "there is something wrong with that guy". That is an understatement. I have trouble believing that all of the positive google reviews are authentic. The reviews I found on Yelp are much more indicative of our experience. What is mind-boggling is that if they had simply done what they were paid for, this could have been a positive review. There are plenty of home improvement contractors in Vero- stay away from this one. read more

So glad I chose this company to do my kitchen and bathroom remodel. They were higher than my other 2 estimates but they was doing work next door so I thought I would get an estimate from them. My neighbor praised them and told me to call them because she was so impressed with how organized they was and there quality. She said they even have a showroom so I can go pick out tile and my cabinets it's a one stop shop. I hired Island Homes and Renovations in Vero Beach for a total remodel of our home. We first met with JJ at the showroom. He helped us in our selections and came out to the house and did all the measurements. We replicated all tile, cabinets and countertop, hardware, moldings and paint. We also had them build a TV wall with marble stone in the middle with floating shelves on either side. Their work is high quality. All the employees were professional in their trade and did excellent work. A special thank you to Tobias, Project Manager. He. I was extremely disappointed by the lack of professionalism JJ displayed. He has a blatant disrespect for women. We selected our supplies and design of a bathroom and JJ was rude and condescending to me the entire time. I asked for a copy of the contract to be sent over so I could review it before the meeting, and he at first refused but after he gave me much attitude, he sent it over. It was completely different than what we had discussed and agreed upon in person. When I asked him about numerous changes, he became very aggressive. I decided that was the final straw and Island Homes and Renovations was not the right choice for us. JJ then proceeded to sent me several harassing texts, some 11 paragraphs long.
