I love this place. We visit once a year when we camp in Rodanthe. My whole family finds things they want. This place has been our favorite place to visit since we started staying on Hatteras Island. Always something new to look at. Our favorite find this year was the coffee. We wish we would have bought a whole pound to bring home. Another favorite is the Gurgle Pot. There is a huge selection of foods for snacking as well as ingredients that I can't find anywhere else on the island. read more

We've been coming to Avon for 25 years, and one place we always (hope for and) count on to be here is Island Spice and Wine. Donna has been a constant, and is so knowledgeable and friendly that it is a joy to shop there. Because the shop is not open on Sundays, we always pick up a few bottles before we get here, but we can count on Donna to suggest and have the perfect wine to go with the special meals and dishes that our group of 10-13 comes up with for the rest of the week. I just visited this place and was very happy about their selection! They have quite a variety fo spices, although i went for the wine. I bought 4 bottles to share with my family, all of which i am very content with, though i have yet to break them open and share. One of my finds included a bottle from Lolonis Vineyards, a vineyard that does not use pesticides, but instead use ladybugs as pest control! They had a wide variety of wines, not just the grocery store wines you find at Food Lion, though their bottles were certainly more expensive, mostly in the $15-20 range. I chatted with the owner and she was very friendly and was able to easily show me to a bottle of cava which i am excited to share! If you are looking for wine on the outer banks, shop here! A wonderful wine shop with a nice assortment of gifts, coffees, beer and other items. On our most recent visit, the owner was very helpful with a bottle of wine, and next time we were in she was eager to find out what we thought about our last purchase. An excellent selection of reds, whites and sparkings/champagne, including some great value wines as well as many higher end reds and whites. We go here every time we go down to Hatteras Island- prices are reasonable and we never pack wine from home anymore when we come down! Donna was absolutely amazing, her store was quaint and but packed with a phenomenal selection of wine! She was so helpful describing wines that were local to the native area, as well as those treats that accompany wine from local co-ops. While on vacation, we were adamant about shopping local and supporting local farms, and businesses and she had a great selection. This little shop is a must for anyone staying in Avon. The owner is so friendly and helpful with recommendations. She stays open even in the off season (weekends), which is great since so many places close. During Spring Break vacation this past March, she even opened up for my boyfriend and me when technically closed for doing inventory, and she is always so kind! Island Spice and Wine offers a great wine selection, but they also sell packaged food goods like crackers, and quality teas. Additionally, they have delicious sauces such as local salsas, and BBQ sauces. It's also a fun place to explore for gift items too: they have nice lotions, trinkets, and kitchen items for sale. This is my favorite place to stock up on Zing sauce! Try it mixed with cream cheese for a delicious spread. read more

Great little shop for wines and nibblies. I bought a gurgle pot there too. I don't even know what to do with it, but I love the adorable fish shaped contraption. They have cheese, crackers, cookies, spreads, jams -- pretty much all you need to have yourself a little wine party. read more

This wasn't at all what I was expecting (not a whole lot of spices or wine really), but their selection of other gifts/foods/locally made things is wonderful. Prices aren't too outrageous for a tourist town, and the cashier was very friendly. They have a little bit of everything. I bought some wine and a few locally made jams, spreads, and dips to take home for gifts. I love this shop, and if I'm ever around Avon again, I will definitely come by again! read more

Was referred by Lisa at the Food Lion to stop by and talk to Donna the owner about ordering me some wine that I can not get at home in Pennsylvania. Donna was more then helpful. I actually ended up ordering a case of wine and it was delivered the next day. Not only did I get to enjoy my wine, she also carried one of my favortie coffees that I can only find in Florida - The Foglifter. I have friends visiting Avon in July and will probably have them pick me up another case of Leasingham Magnus. read more

I really love this little shop and it is a "must" every years when I come to Hatteras. Donna is one of the sweetest kindest ladies ever and she is so helpful. I, too, bought a gurgle pot...love it! They not only have a great selection of wine, but wonderful cookies, crackers and unusual munches. Their gift shop is very nice and I like their selection of lotions and body butters..especially with eucalyptus. Don't miss a stop at this shop. read more

Stopped while on a long weekend trip in September. Great selection of pottery, wine and gourmet foods. Ended up with some pottery and two bottles of organic wine for only $10.00. Very, very impressive. Hope to stop back on my next trip in December. read more

Fun shop, good prices on a wonderful selection of fine wines, champagnes, edibles and gift items. She stocks organic wines too! Love her selection of stemware and serving pieces, very beach oriented and high quality. The owner is sweet, demure, thoughtful and never pushy with her products. She has an excellent knowledge of wines and is a fine connoisseur of all things good. So nice to visit a shop where the owner personally cares about her customers and their needs. read more

I love this store! The owner is adorable and so helpful in picking out the perfect wine. We stay within walking distance of this store every summer, and I've gone in at least 5 times telling the owner what we're having for dinner and she's helped pick out wine each time that went well with our food. They also have great coffee and little gifts. Their beer section is small, but has a few good options. We were pleased that the store is open in the off season, and we visited mid-March. Can't wait to go back in June! read more
