I don't think I have ever been in a Publix before. If I have, I do not remember it. So I am counting this as my first experience with one. Came here to grab a few things, or at least we thought it was going to be a run for that. However, we kept running into some issues. What we wanted was either a bit overpriced or out of stock. I liked the store as a whole. It is much nicer than other grocery stores I have been in. Almost on the level of Harris Teeter if you will in this area. I guess a tip for shopping here, plan ahead. Especially if you are in town on vacation. It'll make for a better experience, less time spent browsing, and not having to deal with all that havoc of everyone else having the same idea as you when you get to the area. read more

I was doing research at a vacation that just happened to land around my parents 40th anniversary and I came across Publix. I ordered a cake from Publix and everybody that ate the cake was so happy. The grocery store is so nice. The bakers at the bakery were just so sweet and so kind. They made a delicious cake. It was so wonderful. read more

Love that they have a British section, even in the Outer Banks (I get homesick). It's a bit more expensive than our Florida location (Siesta Key/Sarasota), but what isn't in the Outer Banks? Very clean and open. Their layout is new/different to me but still makes sense and easy to find what you are looking for. Though still within the state, it's pretty cool to see a few products not offered elsewhere (at least not my usual store) ie Jackfruit and a whole Tomahawk cut of ribeye (normally bone is cut off). This supermarket caters to a slightly more discerning and perhaps affluent customer. The prices are generally above a general grocery store like Food Lion or Walmart. However, there are nice convenience items, at a premium, that are available at Publix - e.g. pre-washed vegetables. The staff is generally available and helpful. There are categories such as alcohol and chips that are far more expensive and should be avoided unless in emergency situations. :) Also, the parking lot design isn't great particularly given it was developed in the last ten years. Also, this location is a bit smaller than a larger format and therefore offers a bit less options in some departments. This is clean, offers good food, and if you are ok paying a little more is a good place to hit. It is convenient for us too so that is a bonus! read more

There was a wild lunch rush, which I'm sure happens daily because of their pub subs. She kept her cool, went above and beyond in service, and made a killer sandwich for my husband and I. Best grocery store and deli on the island. Point blank period. This place is wonderful. From the Publix deli which you can place an online order to pick up slices meats or even food ready to eat, to the sushi and the fish and meat counter there that is wonderful. I love seeing Publix finally enter our area. When residing in Florida over 10 years ago it was my 100% go to grocery and the leading store In Miami and most likely the state. The Outer Banks store is less than a year old. The square footage is adequate for the location, but it seems to be small to me. The specific MM is approximately 6.5. Visibility from the road is excellent. The parking lot is surface and was good for me during a slow Easter off season day. However, with the busy season approaching I think it could be challenged. The only objective for the visit was to pick up two boxes of 8 piece chicken ordered ahead of time. For me they are the best grocery store chicken. Prior to doing so my daughter and I sampled a few items from employee displays. The staff at each of the stations were nice and not pushy. The chicken was picked up from the Deli Department. The employee dropped everything to immediately get the chicken out of the warming cabinet. He smiled and was friendly. A spin over to the wine department to see if there was something I could not live without. A nice selection, but nothing that caught my eye. Checkout was flawless. I will be a regular soon and cannot hide my excitement for one being built in my home city of Virgina Beach. Everything in the store was clean and neatly organized. They say that Publix is a place where shopping is a pleasure and this one does not fall short of that promise. It is extremely clean and there is plenty of room to browse and look for specialty items.... which they have plenty of. The staff here is extremely friendly and on Saturday they provide samples which is a welcomed return to the grocery shopping experience. I ordered a sandwich at the deli which was absolutely delicious. Much better than a sandwich from Jersey Mike's. The bakers that decorated our two custom cakes were absolutely amazing! I believe their names were Hannah, Sam, and Eric. They did the designs exactly as I had asked and even waited until I got there to clarify a detail that was confusing. They were so nice and helpful! read more

As usual, Publix has another winner here. We knew we'd have to come in for subs as soon as I saw on yelp there was a location so close to our hotel. Staff was very nice - wrapping our whole sub in two halves because we were sharing, helping finding products, and offering a smiling face. And their fried chicken though - delicious every time. Self checkout stations were easy to use. Store is brand new and has great layout and lots of products to offer. If you know Publix, it's enough to say, this one lives up to the standards. read more

Awesome grocery store. You can get a fresh sub sandwich made at the Deli. They have a whole aisle of International goods. The Publix Tea is awesome, you can find it by the Deli. You can get many different ready to bake/cook meals like meatloaf, chicken and dumplings, marinated salmon or chicken breast, and pre-made meatballs. The bakery offers a lot of cakes, cookies, pies, and other special treats. There's pre-made salads and sandwiches ready for you to grab. This store carries OBX shirts and beach items. Everyone is so friendly. People stocking the coolers even stop to ask how you're doing. read more

I am a regular customer at Publix and frequent sushi buyer, not great sushi but easy. At every grocery store that makes sushi will add a drop of wasabi for wasabi lovers like me. Today for the first time Publix sushi refused and said I had to buy a container of wasabi which was way more than I would ever need. In addition, the wasabi included with the sushi was considerably smaller amount than they traditionally provided. I understand the sushi chef was doing what they were told and the sushi company just trying to make more money, I have no issue with either. On the other hand, after purchasing the sushi I went to Publix customer service just to give friendly feedback that I noticed the change in policy. The Publix customer service agent cut me off as I was explaining and said it was a third party company and not them. This was poorly delivered and the wrong message. If she would have said something like oh I didn't know that I'll provide your feedback to the sushi company I would have been satisfied. Not going to Publix for a while, looks like Harris Teeter getting my shopping dollars. read more

We don't have one of these where I live and it was super close to where we were staying in kill devil hills. I think we went here atleast 4 times. I really liked the store. they don't over gouge you on prices and everything is fresh and they have a lot of variety in products to choose from. Wish we had one! read more

I've been to three different grocery chains in OBX, Publix had the best local microbrew, kambucha, and key lime pie selection in my opinion. Pretty specialized, but if your looking for those items, Publix is a good choice. The check out ladies were very friendly too. read more

This was my first experience at a Publix and it was just that: an experience. From the moment you walk in you are struct by just how clean, organized and bright the store is. The next moment you are greeted by the friendly and helpful staff in the most genuine manner. Seriously. The staff takes pride in their work and are proactive in asking if customers need assistance. The produce is just beautiful and included are some exotic fruits that are not grown in the area. Highly recommend this store. We live on Hatteras Island, so we love it when new options are added "up the beach". This is a clean, well-stocked store with friendly staff. We love the vegetarian options and hope they continue to expand them. My only complaint? I would like to be honored when I firmly say "no thank you" to being walked out to my car. I think it is a nice gesture, but not always needed or welcome. All in all, a great addition to the OBX. read more

This is a nice Publix. Very new and clean. Helpful associates. I am used to the Publix in Richmond, Va with the hot food bar, fresh sushi, fresh made subs, salad bar. This Publix is not that fancy. I went to see if the OBX location sold Ukrop's foods. They don't, but they should! I still prefer Harris Teeter while in the OBX. read more

Don't get a sub. We ordered foot longs online. They put one (1!) slice of cheese, one (1!) slice of each of the wrong deli meat, no sauce (I ordered two sauces), no salt or pepper. They got the wrong veggies on both of our subs. Literally the only thing they got right was the bread type and the length. This was repeatable on bot of our subs. Please don't waste your time, money, or tastebuds. Never again will we choose Publix over a real sandwich shop. read more

they are very clean store. it has the best produce on the island. its seafood is fresh and priced within the other stores. they stay in stock on the items they carry daily. their bakery is awesome and as you enter the store you are tempted to grab sevreal items right away. Their best item is their key lime pies. A good assortment of standard goods. always fronted to grab easily. Pretty and clean store with a super friendly staff. They have all your grocery needs but what I really liked was their "To go" foods offerings. They carry Boars Head protein bowls for $6.99. Delicious and perfect to take to the beach to eat near the water. (I, for one, do not want to sit on the beach in my bikini eating a big fat greasy burger from a fast food joint and feeling bloated afterwards.) read more

Better then they were but still need lots of work! We are at deli last week at 11:20am. About 5 lima beans in pan, guy says oh it will take 25 minutes to cook more! Its lunch time, whoever emptied should have started new batch! Then NO plates put for meal, and then no cornbread! They have got to get it together! Bakery people are very nice, but sevetal times we have bought cookies that were HARD! Sugar cookies should be soft. Others in store helpful and ALL cashiers very courteous and caring.
