Stopped in for a boat part before closing and discovered mini warmies for Christmas. When I went back the next morning I found out how many great products they had. Compared to Amazon the warmies here were $6 cheaper per Warmie. Happy and surprised, we saved almost $50 from buying them from here. Of all places. Then there's the upstairs apparel section of the store. I found nice hats, gloves, home / boat decor, and a beautiful heavy duty thermal my man loved. It's not pictured due to him wearing it immediately upon seeing it. Now it's in the laundry. This place has excellent gift items, necessities, and prices that are super reasonable. Me and my wife were down to the island this past weekend and had a blast out in fort fisher. We came off the beach and stopped by to check there store out and noticed I had lost power steering . I busted a line. We went in to see if they had supplies to repair the line and I guess the guys working there overheard me and my wife talking and offered me a ride to the auto parts store. I thought kindness in this world was gone but I was wrong they took me there and brought me back and assisted me in finding the clamps I needed . These are a great bunch of guys that work here. This place has all of the usual hardware and household things that you've come to expect from True Value. Being situated at the beach, this place has adapted their store to meet the needs of vacationers and local residences. They have a lot to offer fishing enthusiasts. They have live bait, frozen bait, and fishing lures. They have everything from Fishing hooks and weights to large rod and reel combos. The fishing section is truly impressive. This place isn't just hardware and fishing supplies- they have a lot clothing. The upstairs is a beach shop with nice beach-appropriate wearable items. The items are quality made name brand items. I bought a neat Salt Life tshirt. They have some more souvenir quality wearables downstairs. They also offer some of the same things that the touristy stores offer. They even offer lottery tickets. Memorial Day weekend. With my daughter visiting, and I am an Afghanistan veteran. After shopping in this store a heavy set lady, yelled to me as I was placing True Value items in my car. She says are you going next door, I said yes I am,is it good? She says I must leave, I just bought a hat from her store and she as wearing it. I was going to park in the open lot next door anyway. She said the sign on the roof restricted me from parking there. I told her to enjoy her freedoms and take care as I left. This lady is a disgrace to the community and I would like an apology but she is not worth my time, this post is enough. She said all of this in front of my daughter who was learning the importance of Memorial Day and how it is not about cook outs or the beach. read more

Came in from out of town with no gear or knowledge of the area and wanted to get some lines in the water fast. Spoke with their sales team and was fitted out with rods and reels, bait, and had lines in the ocean within 20 minutes from hello. Very fair pricing and set is up nicely. Would not accept a return on an expensive item same day it was bought that we tried but hated. Was only out of the package for 10 minutes. No notice in the store about it not being returnable. We waiting for 43 minutes after telling the 2 tackle clerks what was needed (removal of some fishing line to replace with another). after 43 minutes we were informed that that would not replace the line because they couldn't tie the knot. tying knots for fishing line is pretty common so we didnt think this was asking for too much. after they said they couldnt tie the knot, we offered to tie the knot ourselves and were decline. after that we asked to just purchase the line and we would do it ourselves but they didn't have any spools in stock to sell. terrible experience and a waste of an hour that we could've been at a knowledge tackle shop. read more

Love that these guys have survived the big box movement - these days it seems the neighborhood hardware store is on the verge of extinction. Are the prices a little higher than Lowe's or (shutter) Wal-Mart. Why, yes, yes they are on some items. But am I willing to pay a little more to shop at a store where someone (often the owner) greets me with a genuine welcome and immediately offers to help me find what I'm looking for? Where I'm treated like a neighbor and not an annoyance? Where it doesn't take half an hour to find something simple for my latest DIY project among a sea of "big project" materials? Just to avoid walking into a "big box" experience, period? Oh my GOD yes! I'm in here quite a bit for odds and ends I need for my business. The last time I was in, the owner did me such a sweet and incredible favor - it probably didn't cost him much, but the gesture left a smile on my face and a positive (and lasting) impression on me. This sort of thing just doesn't happen at Home Depot. If you've got a pretty substantial project on your hands or, you know, you're *building a house*, then please do seek out a major hardware store. But for all the little projects and fixes around the house, please support the little guy - especially this one where the customer service is so rockin'! This store has a little but of everything you could need while at the beach. It is a True Value hardware store, fishing bait and tackle store, clothing, etc. However, they know they are providing a convenience and charge accordingly for much of their merchandise. We needed a cooler and it was 2x the price of a similar cooler at Wal-Mart which was only 10min up the road. read more

It's my ole reliable stand by when in Carolina Beach. Really great to get licenses in a hurry. Tackle is generally very overpriced but there is a decent selection. Info can be very hard to get out of them no matter how much you spend. Hardware store next door is a plus. That parking lot can be a real pain to get out of in the busy times of the day. read more

Needed some fishing supplies and bait. This is a well stocked tackle store with friendly staff who are more than willing to help out.

Bought a Key Largo fishing rod from Island Tackle and paid $139.00 plus tax. I paid this much due to thinking I was buying quality. I was told by two sales people that the rods had a lifetime guarantee and if the rod broke or the grips come off to bring the rod back and it would be replaced. On my first fishing trip with the rod the rubber cap on the bottom of the rod fell off. It appeared the cap was not glued on well. I took the rod back to the store and the guy I talked to wanted to send the rod off for repair which would take 3 weeks. I ask about replacement and the guy stated that that was only if the rod broke. The guy did not even say sorry that you had a bad experience or nothing. It was like he was more interested to get me out of the store. I am very unhappy about about paying $139.00 for a rod that I was lied to about and now can't use for 3 weeks. I will never purchase anything from this store again. I hope they enjoy all the thousands of dollars I spent in the store for they will never get another dime of my money. Don't every buy a Key Largo Rod for they are over priced junk! read more
