The Deets: My friends I vacation with had forgotten to bring their fishing rods/tackle on the trip to Holden Beach this year, and even though it's not the optimal time of year to go fishing they wanted to do so during the stay. In looking around for places that might have a good supply of fishing needs, we found The Rod & Reel Shop along the main causeway strip before the bridge going over the bridge to the beach (that big street sign helped). Inside, they have just about every piece of fishing equipment, rods/reels, tackle, and accessories one may need, definitely a good selection. We found all the necessities needed for fishing that would do the trick without breaking the bank. Above all, the staff there were delightfully pleasant, helpful, and wanted to make sure we found what we needed...they were so friendly! On this point alone I'd say they get a great review. Only ding I can find that would be a 4.5 stars technically is that the bloodworms for bait were pretty expensive here but they had some shrimp that was just what was needed bait wise. I ordered a Quantum spinning reel just like the one that I purchased at Bass Pro Shop for $71.00 inc tax. The same exact reel from Sportsman's Wholesale was $37.00 inc shipping saving me $34.00. I ordered it on a Saturday and it arrived the following Friday morning just as it was stated in the purchase agreement. Ordering could not have been easier and the whole process was simplified enough for even me ( 70 yr old ), old school type who grew up buying everything from a store of one type or another. Captain Perry is one of the more competent people on the water and was a joy to fish with…read more While we did not get much and boated out into turbulent waters, his main concern was our safety and making sure we were doing well in our trip and even tv ought we got thoroughly skunked on our tour, we even caught 2 lizard fish. For a trip that was shortened due to weather and bad waves, he still tried to get us out and at the same time was very reassuring in our safe return of which we did. If we ever get another opportunity to return we will rebook with him every time, hopefully over safer seas that have more fish in them.
