Mike was amazing at our wedding in Charlottesville ,VA. We wanted no group dance songs. Our song list was very expensive genre wise but for our dance floor we set the mission to have 0 "break songs", we wanted people on the floor the entire time AND HE KILLED IT. The dancing alone was 4 hours and we kept hearing from guests how awesome the DJ was and that they have never danced that hard at a wedding. He was totally able to feel the crowd and leaned into that. He played every "must play" song we had, had an amazing mic personality for introductions and crowd direction, and was an absolute joy to work with. He even was the deciding factor for us as to whether or not to do a private last dance (we did and are super happy we did). iSound in general was awesome to work with as well, reasonable prices and they had awesome speakers and lights for the show. Their team was responsive and the app they use (Vibo) for the wedding lets you do a lot of custom music selection for different parts of your day so by the time they assign your DJ they've already had time to catch the vibe you want and match that. You'll meet with the DJ a couple weeks out with a video zoom meet to hash out details and get to know each other. The team is there for you if you need anything before. 100/10 recommend. I truly hate that I have to write this review, because my wedding day itself was beautiful. However, this company made critical mistakes that affected moments I will never get back. Our DJ was Marchez. Prior to the wedding, he seemed professional. My Maid of Honor and I had a planning call with him, and I followed up with updates by text as needed. Unfortunately, on the day of the wedding, the execution was extremely disappointing: * During the ceremony, my husband witnessed the DJ leave to go to his car while we were still walking down the aisle.The music continued playing unattended. * When my ring bearer walked, there was no music at all. * The recessional song that we had specifically discussed was delayed, and the timing was completely off. This is visible in our wedding video. * During the reception entrance, he introduced our Maid of Honor and Best Man as the bride and groom. * He did not play most of the playlist I spent time uploading into their system, as their process requires. * I, the bride, had to approach him multiple times throughout the reception to express my concerns. Guests also mentioned to me that the music and flow felt disorganized. After returning from my honeymoon and settling back into life which took about a month, I reached out to the company to share my experience. Their response was dismissive. I was told, "We provided the service," and questioned on why I reached out a month later, as if that minimized the impact of what happened. They also stated that the DJ claimed someone at the wedding was making him uncomfortable by telling him what to play and not play. Even if that were true, he never communicated that to me, despite me speaking with him several times that night. That detail only came up after I raised concerns, and it did not address the issues that happened during the ceremony and formal moments. What was most disappointing was the lack of accountability, empathy, or offer to make it right. The company's responses focused solely on defending themselves rather than acknowledging what happened. After reading other negative reviews, I noticed a similar pattern in their replies, which is very concerning. I accepted that they were unwilling to take responsibility, so I'm simply sharing my experience for future couples. Weddings are once-in-a-lifetime moments, and professional vendors should treat them with the care they deserve. I hope this review helps someone make a more informed decision. Our experience with Island Sound was nothing less than amazing! We were paired with Christian Lewis, as our DJ for our wedding. From the first moment my husband and I met Christian, we loved him. He is attentive to your desires for the big event and Christian truly wants to make sure he does everything he can to have the event go perfectly. After meeting over zoom with Christian and discussing the timeline and song selections, we were confidant that our wedding would be everything we wanted it to be! Christian not only made sure the music was always the best vibe, but also got out and mingled with the guests and felt like nothing less than apart of our family and friends. We initially hired Island Sound for what was supposed to be out wedding in March of 2020, due to COVID it had to get to delayed until March of 2021. I was probably the most nervous about music, my husband and I have a somewhat niche preference in genre/music, but also didnt provide much guidance in the questionnaire. There were multiple moments, guest arrival, cocktail hour, reception and obviously dance portion that I audibly exclaimed "I LOVE THIS SONG"!! Dave P. was an amazing DJ. Due to Covid19 our wedding had numerous changes. Island Sound continued to support us through each step. We had to change our DJ about a month before wedding and they couldn't have picked a better one for us! He arrived very early to set up, he ran through the songs and all his equipment to ensure we had no glitches. He communicated with the venue staff and the bridal parties throughout the night and just did an absolute perfect job! He seriously kept the party going to where people didn't want to leave! He was able to read the crowd and pick great dancing songs. The grandparents watched the dancing all night they just loved it! Island Sound is a great company to work with, reasonably priced and very responsive to needs. They are all inclusive with their rates so you don't feel like you continue adding small things onto your total. Dave took care of the ceremony music and mics for our officiant and guest speaker and it all worked perfectly. I seriously can't say enough good things about him and the company. Just had a wedding at the lighthouse with a reception at the Heritage Center. I live across the country, so I decided to spend a little extra $ and use a professional music service so I didn't have to worry too much about details (since they are pros!). We chose to have a string quartet for the ceremony and cocktail hour and a DJ for the reception. The DJ Gary (we were told to request him) was spot on! Our guests were in between the ages of 30-60 and Gary kept everyone dancing all night long. Island Sound linked me up with a music coordinator Pegge to help plan the details for the String Quartet & ceremony. She is very experienced and had several helpful suggestions regarding music for the ceremony. Island Sound also provided the sound system for the outdoor ceremony as part of the package. If you are looking for a professional DJ, band or musicians for a wedding or event, definitely consider Island Sound. I didn't spend much time at all worrying about music and everything was perfect! I used Island Sound for my wedding. The company was very unprofessional and did not fulfill the services that I paid for. I opened a yelp account to post my disappointment with this company. I was married in September and dealing with this company went into my honeymoon. I was reminded about the experience in my wedding video when my first dance played 5 times before the DJ realized that I was still with my wedding party. I was told that my wedding venue (Villa De Suenos) was known for having a noise ordinance problem with the police typically being called to most events. Also, I was told that this company knew the venue since they played there almost every weekend so it was my safest bet. I thought they were on the pricey side but the owner put my fears at ease and told me that he would ensure the DJ had been there and even said that I would probably want someone young for a fun wedding DJ. I was overly cautious about calling them 2 weeks prior to the wedding to make sure everything was good to go. The DJ was so nice but the company just hired him to pick up the equipment and come do my wedding. He had a laptop that was supposed to have all of my music uploaded but it was not. I even called and asked about doing 2 first dance songs so we could break out in a funny dance, I spoke to the DJ about it, and they DIDNT even play it. It was NOT uploaded and the DJ did not understand me. I showed the DJ where it was listed on the form he had and he was very sorry. Problems that I had were: -THE COPS SHOWED UP! -I was given the music form 2 weeks prior to the event which stated it needed to be submitted 2 weeks prior to the event -I was told the dj would be picked by monday the week of our wedding to speak to him and I had to call again Thursday to see if we had a DJ assigned. -I was told I would talk to the DJ prior and I did not. -I was told the DJ knew the venue, he had never been there before. -He set up inside with the doors open without enough cord to put a speaker outside (when we were dancing and eating outside) -He played classical music that I did NOT pick, I told him to change it 2 times, he realized later that the classical music was not the selection I had picked. -My first dance song with my husband did not switch to do the dance moves that we had practiced!! -He re played my dad/daughter song 6 times because we were not ready and he wasn't paying attention. He did not announce us to come to the dance floor. -The music form said to not put much information because djs are best at reading the crowd but he asked me multiple times what type of music i wanted -HE TOLD ME THAT THEY USE SPOTIFY AND HE COULD JUST PUT TOP 40 ON!!!!! I only had the music types and 6 must hear songs which 4 were our dance songs in 6 hours! I was planning on them just playing the genres that I had picked. Though I heard some complaints on the cocktail music because I was too busy running around.... I was mainly by the DJ booth the rest of the night due to having to guide him through what I wanted. I went back and forth with the owner about the poor services that I received. He wanted me to rate the DJ dissatisfaction with 0-100%. He told me that I was not completely dissatisfied because people still danced and I did not stop the dj service. I told him people danced because the bartender did his job. I did not even think about kicking the dj out and just plugging in my Pandora. They said a couple times that I should of had a wedding planner for these problems. I did not know that I needed a wedding planner solely to watch over the dj. Blake was the sweetest DJ. He felt so bad on how he was not set up properly. He had text the owner and said the owner told him to salvage it the best he can. The company was unprepared and argued at giving me any type of refund. I still think that I am owed for the fact that I was so cautious and trying to be overly prepared but Island Sounds let me down. read more

I hired Island Sound for our corporate holiday party. DJ Spencer did an awesome job from the music selection to the introduction announcements. Spencer was very professional from his attire, communication and work. The music selection was spot on for the cocktail hours and dancing. The majority of our 100 employees and guests commented on what an awesome job the DJ did, which made the party a big hit. This company is awful, do not use them for your wedding or event. We booked them for a wedding more than a year in advance. Plans changed and when we tried to cancel less than one month later they kept our deposit. To add injury to insult they emailed me today with a questionnaire about the music we want played at our canceled event. Clearly they are not on top of their game. It was such a pleasure working with Christian of Island Sound this weekend! As a wedding planner, I so appreciate someone who communicates well. Leading up to the wedding, Christian was great about answering emails, texts and phone calls. On the day of, he was on time, his set up was great, and was completely prepared. Facts for your consideration: The DJ played the father-daughter song twice before it was time to dance, once while getting pictures done and once at the cocktail reception. The DJ played the end of what was my first dance, not the beginning, as requested. I called Island Sound one week ago today and never heard back from them. My opinion: Really disappointed with how my experience using Island Sound turned out. I searched high and low trying to find a DJ for my Florida wedding and was thrilled when I found what I thought was a young set of DJs who "got it." Everything was great until two days before my wedding when I was finally put in touch with my DJ, JR. I had a bad feeling when I first spoke to him and wish that I would have trusted my gut. English is not his first language and I felt that there was a disconnect, but he had a nice attitude so I didn't make a big deal of it. JR asked me to make a long list of songs I wanted to play, which is the opposite of what the owner Justin had asked of me (his take was that providing a long list limited the DJ to do his job.) DJ Christian was amazing!! We knew from the time he arrived to set up, when we heard him play my son's favorite song right out the gate. My son said "mom he is gonna be awesome." And he absolutely was. I got to listen while I got ready and we loved everything he played. He had the exact version of songs I wanted for the ceremony, and he timed them perfectly. Cocktail hour flowed right into our first dance. Then he got the crowd dancing and never stopped. Our guests loved his energy, as he was dancing behind his setup the entire night. You can just tell he loves what he does. The best way to describe Christian's performance at our wedding is as I told him at the end of the night- it was as if he could read my mind, and played the exact songs I would've requested without me having to do so. He called me to introduce himself a couple of weeks before the wedding and he was available if I needed any questions answered. I'm a huge music fanatic, so it was so important to me that I had a DJ that could undertake the long song list and requests that I made. Bobby was our DJ and he beyond impressed us. OUR EXPERIENCE WITH THIS DJ COMPANY WAS BY FAR THE WORST THING ABOUT OUR WEDDING!!! My now husband and I planned a destination wedding on St. Augustine beach in Florida for Saturday, October 8th, 2016. As many might know, Hurricane Matthew hit St. Augustine the Thursday and Friday before our wedding date. Needless to say we weren't going to be able to get married on the beach or have our reception at the St. Johns County Pier Pavilion like we had planned. This was an extremely stressful situation for us, as we are from Maryland! By the time we learned how "bad" this storm was going to be half of our guests were already in town and the other half was not going to be able to make it. So, our wedding had to go on and we worked diligently on Thursday and Friday to relocate. We ended up moving our reception to St. Johns County Golf course, which is approximately 10.5 miles from our original location and 6 miles closer for Island sound. All of our vendors made it and didn't give us any grief, other than Island sound of course. Justin Henshaw seemed positive that he would be able to accommodate this move up until the day of the wedding when he called to cancel. I want to say first off that this was fine with us, upsetting but fine, as we wanted Justin and his crew to be safe first and foremost. Although our wedding would be that much worse without a DJ, safety always comes first in my book! Since we did not cancel our wedding and instead, Island Sound could not make it, we thought that they would be happy to refund our payment and all would be fine. After all no harm, no foul. However, that is not what happened. It wasn't until about a week after our wedding that we finally got ahold of Justin and he informed us we would not be receiving a full refund, he would reimburse us for a portion of our payment but not all of it. He said, "we weren't able to make it to about 20 weddings on Saturday due to the Hurricane and if I refunded all of you my business would go under." I am sympathetic but that isn't my problem, he should have prepared for this. I mean his company is called Island Sound and what do islands have? Hurricanes. Three weeks after we spoke I learned that we would be receiving 50% of our payment. My husband sent 2 or 3 follow-up emails after learning this, pleading with Justin to return the rest of our money, but he refused saying that the matter was closed. He knows that it wouldn't be smart for us to sue as we would have to pay for flights, lodging, and court costs to get back what we are owed, so we believe he is taking advantage. His reasoning now for not returning the money is that we canceled our "contract" by changing the location and they were not able to make it to the new venue. Ummm. First, I never signed a contract. He gave me an invoice and I paid the invoice. That was all. Second, he was unable to make it to the new location or our originally agreed upon location. Well, my bridal party drove from all over FL to Jacksonville the morning of our wedding to get ready and then drove to the wedding site with absolutely NO problems. I didn't even see any flooding, down power lines, or any other "damage" from the storm on my journeys. After the wedding we went back onto St. Augustine Island and stayed the night in my parents rental house, which also had NO damage and is right on the beach. There were mandatory evacuations in many parts of FL and I can understand the DJs being relocated and not being able to attend, but in that case we should be refunded in my opinion, as they did not provide the services they were paid to provide. read more
