Open late to welcome the weary traveler, the donner kebab (lamb) will restore and delight you. Don't skimp or skip any extra elements-- the sauce blends with and binds the other flavors. Use the bread under-layer and the rice to soak up all the remnants!

EAT HERE! If you're roaming the streets of Cork with a few Euro in your pocket and a hungry belly - head to Istanbul! Large portions sizes for a very fair price! Oh the food was so delicious. Quick service, large portions, great price - yes! Went to Ireland on a bit of a budget. Rented a car so that cost a pretty penny, but I wanted food that would make my taste buds tickle while not causing too much damage to my wallet - lo and behold: Istanbul. Yes....YES - I can still smell and taste the food. When in Cork - go to Istanbul!
When almost everything else in town was closed we were lucky to stumble upon Istanbul. We shared the chicken shawarma plate and it was generous and delicious and came out fast. Spent $24 on plate and two waters. This is not an unusual cost for a single meal in this city in the center read more
We had just gotten off of a long flight and then a three-hour drive with an 8 month old baby, so we were definitely not trying to go to a restaurant for dinner. We were in the mood for some kebabs and found Istanbul and stopped in on a Sunday at around 9 PM. We had the doner kebab, and some kind of platter that had chicken, beef, and lamb. Our total came out to almost $40 USD! That's more than NYC prices! It was a pretty big portion, but I don't think it was $40 worth. Plus, the meats were kind of dry. It could have used some more sauce. Not a great first meal in Ireland. read more

WOW. We were in the area while on vacation during a very busy day in Cork. We were wandering endlessly looking for lunch and stumbled upon Istanbul - it ended up being one of our favorite meals of the entire trip. Their portion sizes are CRAZY!!! So much food and at a decent price, too. Everything we had was outstanding - we've been talking about it nonstop since we've gotten home. Don't hesitate, just go eat here! read more

Totally amazing food, lovely staff--friendly and helpful--in an unassuming, low-pressure almost family style setting. I was introduced to the "chicken with salad" served on the ultra-fresh Syrian bread right out of the tandoori oven, and I couldn't have been more pleased. Very delicious. A standout meal and a memorable experience. read more

After a drunken night out, we always enjoyed a diner kebab when living in England. We recognize the quality difference between what we get in the U.S. and what we can get when traveling in Ireland. After much debate, we settled on Istanbul in the shopping district. It did not disappoint. Our eyes were perhaps bigger than our stomachs and we both ordered two meals - the lamb doner and the falafel plate that included rice and a drink. The meat was tender and flavorful and the falafel was well fried and soft in the middle - simply perfect. The accompanying salads and dressings were all required with the pita underneath an added bonus. With massive serving sizes and at a fair price, you won't need two meals - buy one and share a side of chips or rice. You'll thank me later! read more
My first experience with Doner and it was amazing! I was yelping to find a quick, cheap, delicious dinner for my last night in Ireland as my husband and I were walking around the shopping areas of Cork. We found this spot and it was a food I'd never heard of, living in Hawaii. Pleased to know that it was an authentic spot. We ordered two mixed doner combos (huge plates) and I ordered a soft drink. The way the food was presented reminded me of Greek food a bit. The meals came out hot and fresh and we dug in. I didn't know how to eat it, but I used the pita to pick up pieces of meat, rice and salad. I even made a little taco! My husband and I are not big lamb fans but the seasoning and sauce on the chicken and lamb were fantastic! We couldn't get enough! I will definitely look for Doner plates on the rest of my travels. read more

This is as good as it gets for kebabs. Fresh and tasty. Best staff so friendly and always busy. Very helpful. Great place for food.
This place has the lock down on the late night crowd. I went there with my cousin.(from cork) I think it was one of the only places open. So I went here after a heavy night of drinking at around 2am. There was line out the door. I don't think there is much of line during the daytime though. The line moved quickly so did the chefs who made my lush snack. I got the chips and curry. The curry was actually quite tasty. The only pit fall was the price, I thought it was overly priced for what you were paying for. read more

The visual execution of the kafte (sic?) dish is lovely, but actually eating it is another thing. I had a difficult time eating this with a knife and fork. I wrapped it like a burrito (I'm Mexican, can't help it!) but it was still very messy. There was way too many onions to enjoy the rest of the flavors, and picking them out was a hassle. read more

Great shish kebabs, but this would be the most consistently decent dish on the menu, the pizzas are tasty enough but a little difficult to digest. This is a strong option as the foreign food culture starts to evolve, it's great to have fresh alternatives to the usual fare. read more

I'm normally wary of kebab places, owing to the quality of the meats, sauce, and veggies they use in their menu. However, after being back for the first time in a number of years, I can say that this is probably the best kebab house I've been to. I ordered the doner kebab meal, which comes with chips and a drink. After about 10 minutes we (a party of four) received our food. I was initially concerned with paying €9 for a meal, I was pleasantly surprised with the size of the portion. I ate it with a knife and fork, since if I tried to fold it into a kebab shape, it would have spilled all over me! The sauces were perfect, and the meat was tender and juicy. It also had the perfect meat:veg:bread ratio. All in all, can't complain. read more

I highly recommend Istanbul restaurant, fantastic food, good portion at a fair price. I have eaten a lot of donairs over the years but this one beats all. The food is fresh and tasty, nan bread is warm and freshly made, the basmati rice is steamed to perfection. I love the food, ate there 3 times so far, will have to come back for one more meal before I leave Cork. read more

I had a great experience at Istanbul Cork. The lamb kish was delicious, with tender, flavorful meat and a flaky crust. The dish was well-balanced and full of authentic flavors. I highly recommend it. read more
