The view was amazing first time being at Italian lake. Every angle was a perfect spot to take photos and the beauty of nature is everywhere. You can come for walks here, relax or even make a picnic. Has benches anda shot with chairs for events, Mini bridge and more. Love it and will recommend to people I know to go there!

Beautiful scenery and wildlife on a short mile hike. Parking is sparse and limited to street. Great spot to see ducks, white herons? And other water fowl!

Stumble across this location . It's beautiful and peaceful . We've spent an hour just walking, talking and listening to the water. Some of the fountains weren't on but other than that I enjoyed the scenery.

Well-maintained, scenic, secluded and peaceful habitat in the city of Harrisburg, PA. Lots of interesting birds and ducks to watch, nice walking path, with a bridge over the beautiful lake. Beautiful location for photos; saw a bridal party taking photos while there. A nice place to restore your peace and connect with nature.

I stopped by Italian lake today after visiting my lawyer downtown, this is probably the first time I've been here in about 7 years. We took our stroller (baby) and wheelchair (grandma) out and went around the lake. The landscaping is supurb, with all sorts of trees, bushes, roses and flowers. Weeping willows, ash, pine, that's about all i recognized. The lake itself had lillypads, some frogs and was stocked with fish. the walkway is paved around with concrete, and some areas are brick. There are benches to sit down and enjoy a book or grab a snack. Theres a cute little red bridge in the middle where you can watch the fish. It was pretty relaxing, there was some trash and a minor, though slightly annoying amout of dung on the walkway, but that was it. There is a free summer music concert series that happens every other week here, check http://www.harrisburgevents.com/Events/Italian_Lake.html for more info.

Cute little neighborhood park just off Division street with a looped paved walkway. We saw plenty of lake life - swans (black and white), geese, heron, turtles. There are a couple of fountains and a bridge through the middle. Nice to walk around or sit on the grass near the water. We took our bikes (we were on a longer bike ride) and rode the loop a few times. It's not long, maybe a quarter mile.

Harrisburg's mini Walden Pond. This is a beautiful place to go for a picnic, a stroll with your significant other, or a walk with your canine companion (on a leash of course)...but please don't feed the waterfowl.

Italian Lake is a really nice little park in Harrisburg, great for a break from the work day. During the summer months they have free Sunday concerts there in the outdoor pavilion.

Very Beautiful, best place to clear your mind or read a book.

For the more active type, the distance around the lake is 0.68 miles. Just something to keep in mind when running/walking. Cheers!

I went in August 2025, right as 19 different outdoor art installations were scattered along the three-mile loop trail. Each piece was beautifully creative and thought-provoking, and I loved how so many of them used natural materials gathered right from the park itself. It made exploring feel like a treasure hunt--you never knew what unique creation would be waiting around the next bend. The park itself is gorgeous and so well-kept. Trash cans were strategically placed and clearly emptied often, so everything looked clean and inviting. Bathrooms? About as good as you could hope for in a community park--clean enough that I didn't even consider detouring for a gas station stop on the way home (and that's saying something). Even on a busy Labor Day weekend, parking was easy. With four different lots, I never felt stressed about finding a spot. I also noticed a pavilion by the Nature Center--there was a baby shower happening while I was there, which seems like the perfect use of the space. Speaking of the Nature Center: it's bigger than you'd expect and doubles as a gift shop and interactive learning spot. There are activities for kids, friendly staff, and my personal favorite--a birdwatching corner with huge windows and binoculars set up so you can spy on the feeders outside. Honestly, I could've sat there all day. The trails are paved, easy, and family-friendly. I saw strollers rolling, little ones running ahead, and older folks carefully strolling with canes. It's accessible, peaceful, and filled with the simple beauty of wetlands, wildlife, and woodlands. Wildwood Park is free, beautiful, and absolutely worth the trip. Pack a picnic, bring your walking shoes, and give yourself time to wander, wonder, and maybe even spot some art in the wild.

Ever since we found out my trunk bike carrier works on our SUV late this summer, we've fervently…read moreexplored biking trails around the Harrisburg area before the season's over.  One of the first things that came to mind would of course be the Capital Area Greenbelt.  It's a 23 mile route interconnecting paved paths, crushed-stone trails, and public roads.  We've only explored 3 different segments of the Greenbelt.   The first is City Island and Riverfront Park. Start by looping around the small island which is less than a mile but think of it as a warm up. You also get to see some touristy highlights such as the Pride of the Susquehanna Riverboat, Water Golf, and City Island Railroad.  Then cross the picturesque Walnut Street Bridge, turn left on to my favorite segment so far, the Riverfront Park. This paved segment runs for 3 miles alongside the Susquehanna River all the way to Vaughn St. You also have an option to take the path directly along the river or the path along the green/street.  Along the way you get to see many sculptures and historic landmarks. Some highlights include State Street, Governor's Mansion, Peace Garden, and Sunken Garden. And if you're open to excursions, take detours and check out the Capitol Complex and Italian Lake. The second segment we've been frequenting without realizing it's part of the Greenbelt - Wildwood Park. I've had a 5-star review on it. It's one of  my favorite parks in the Harrisburg area.  I've read that there's a new 1.5 mile segment connecting from Wildwood Park to Fort Hunter.  I can't wait to check that out! The third segment we just tried today, the Andrea Ave Spur.  It's not part of the main loop but still part of the Greenbelt. I guess you can think of it as an extension, much like the Fort Hunter segment.  This one starts out on a crushed-stone path but soon turns into a fully paved trail. It's only 2.3 miles to the main loop near the Farm Show complex, but it's hilly and punishing at times. This is a different experience than, say, a rail trail which is more secluded and allows you to be soaked with nature.  Here you do not completely leave civilization. Another negative aspect is that many sections insolve public roads.  I'm not sure I should venture the southeast portion of the Greenbelt, based on the map...

Pursuits follows people around and interviews them, about the comings and goings of their town, its historical significance, shopping, fishing, boating, fun things to do, and even weird spooky things! Pursuits is also available in PDF format on their website. I have been a member since 2005, they also send you a free travel & tourism map that has all sorts of interesting things highlighted. This is how I plan a lot of my trips, travels and visits. Mainly I go to admission free state parks and historical points of interest (millersburg ferry, pa grand canyon, hessian powder magazine, railroad museum of pa, daniel boone homestead, pa lumber museum, presqueisle park, ephrata cloister, cornwall furnace, pa renaissance faire, etc) The website has apparel for sale, pre-planned roadtrips, a shunpikers guide, civil war trails, things to do, and much much more. It is very current and up to date. It has several different Regions: Philadelphia & Countryside, Dutch Country Roads, the Alleghanies & her Valleys, Northeast Pennsylvania Mountains, Great Lakes, Pittsburgh & Countryside and my favorite: Pennsylvania Wilds. The Pennsylvania Wilds is my favorite because it's so remote, peaceful and quiet. It is a haul to get there, and current gas prices dont help, but it's nice if you take about 2 - 3 days and turn it into a long weekend. It has an abundance of things to do: dozens of Parks, with lakes to go boating, trails to go hiking galore, horses & covered wagons for rent on the Rail Trails, you could watch a hang glider or spot an elk maybe! On one trip to Bennezett Pa we spotted 23 elk in a one day period.
