Unfortunately, the older gentleman working there has been consistently rude every time I've gone in. It's not just one bad day--his attitude has been the same on multiple visits, and I've also noticed him treating other customers the same way. It's disappointing because it's such a unique shop with so much character, but customer service really affects the experience. I hope management addresses this, because the store deserves a friendlier and more welcoming atmosphere.

Because my daughter is a huge fan and always had a subscription I really enjoyed reading this magazine. When I used to move apartments a lot it was a great resource to get decorating ideas. I remember Condé Nast's Domino as very much the latter, targeting wildly affluent home fetishists who prefer their McMasions and third home abodes sterile and pristine, void of any obvious human presence. One issue from the mid-aughts was particularly hilarious featuring a translucent Caucasian woman holding her designer clad offspring in front of an immaculately white interior. I recall thinking at the time that this kid must be a fashion accessory outsourced to the nanny since no actual parent has an all white design scheme with a trophy toddler on consignment and lives to tell about it. Be that as it may, Domino was and is a visually arresting piece of eclectic design porn in much the same way as Victoria magazine once held the late 20th century tea party set from Shaker Heights and Kiawah Island completely enthralled with their gilded age charms. In any case, physical magazines of any variety are a rare treat and with paper stocks reduced to tissue in most cases, Domino's "4,000 pound" glossy stock is a rare treat. Four stars.

I like the brief shot of news, weather and sports. I don't want a long story with lots of details. NY1 gives me the highlights. I don't recall the names of the reporters like I do with NBC. I am familiar with a couple of the ones that have been working for the network for years. After Spectrum (and Time Warner prior to Spectrum) took over I noticed a change. It was about that time I stopped watching daily. Somehow I don't feel like they're talking to me! I like the personal feel of my friends on the NBC Morning Shows! So there you have it. Another was on eating disorders. Yet another was on recycling and included many articles on what people can do different and a green guide on recycled paper. They also featured the home of Ted Turner's daughter which was still very classic and entirely green. There are pictures from parties that include fashion people more than socialites as well as journals from people's travels. There's also a wedding section and a free wedding issue each year. Certainly NY-centric but less so than Vogue. There was a very colonialist tone to the articles on Africa and Asia which I found off-putting. If you are wealthy, from the tri-state area, an aspiring socialite (more Nan Kempner, less Paris Hilton), Caucasian, over 30 and a mother with a classic style, this is the magazine for you.
