The idea of the zoom classes was a bit tough to swallow at first but I've really enjoyed them and been able to form a real friendship with Jodina and the other students in the class. This is my first time taking a language course with Jodina. The structure of this class is perfect as it is remote learning but You still feel very connected, in the setting, to your peers. Jodina's online learning courses were so valuable to my 16 year old son and I. We started learning with her in Spring of 2023 and have both made tremendous strides with her one-on-one sessions, group classes and travel courses to prepare for our time in Italy. I am always looking for other Italophiles and I found a whole group of them! This is a MeetUp.com group, so I was a little leery whether or not it would be a cohesive and interesting group. It was all that and more!! I went to the group for the first time at Panera Bakery Cafe in Vista. The space is light and airy, and we had a big table in the middle of the room but we didnt seem to bother anyone, and they didn't bother us. There were about 9 of us and the teacher, Jodina, who is a very cheerful and personable woman. Her teaching method is efficient and fun. There were all levels of Italian speakers: a couple very fluent (like me) and others who were beginners. The class flows in a very nice way and Jodina keeps everyone on track without being too regimented. Today's subject discussion was chocolate!! How perfect. Even though I am a fluent speaker, I learned a few new words today. I really look forward to going back to this group and now have a new group of friends. It's fun; try it, you'll like it. Jodina is an enthusiastic and delightful teacher. When I decided to learn italian before I went on a trip to Rome and Florence, I was nervous entering the class. Jodina immediately put me at ease with her big smile and welcoming personality. As we moved through the weeks the depth of knowledge of italian and of how to teach a language was apparent. I had tried other methods like language apps and Rosetta stone, which gave me a taste but not how the language worked. In these other methods I had to work out for myself how the language was structured and was lost as the complexity increased. In Jodina's class she broke all that down in bite sized pieces that built on each other week to week. The other delight in learning from someone who has lived in Italy, is the extra tidbits of hints about how to fit in, little etiquette hints, and a few does and don't.
